From who? It wasn't the Salo hit. Marchand's ass hit Emelin in the hip. Isn't that a hip check? Clipping is a hit to the knees, and from the slow mo, it's clear its on the hip and not knees. It looks worse maybe because Marchand is short. Emelin isn't exactly a saint on skates anyways. He had some questionable antics last night too. League already said there is nothing to see here.

Worried about Peverley. Without Peverley and Horton, Chiarelli needs to bring in another top 6 winger. No excuses.

How about this goal:

I thought it was a cheap hit and bad penalty. It definitely isn't a classic hip check. The guy needs to stop folding in half every time a hit is coming. Emelin's record has nothing to do with it in my opinion.

The Peverley situation is far worse. I went back and looked at it again and it definitely doesn't look good. Evidently he's back in Boston.

Time to hit the trade deadline hard and refill the tanks. Spend some of that $11M in cap space or whatever it is.

Pouliot's goal was sweet. Second one of those he's had this year. If he could get a bit more consistent maybe he fills a spot.

In other news:
Montreal fans clearly have no class. Where I'm from you don't cheer a player getting hurt. http://video.thescore.com/watch/chara-takes-puck-to-face-montreal-fans-cheer. Plekanec showed some class.

Despite the shootout win this was another crappy effort. They almost gave away the game to a crummy team after a 3-1 lead. Chara "led" the team @ minus-3 with an amazing number of turnovers. Krejci another minus-1 effort (now minus-6 for the season) though he did manage to win more FOs last night.

I expect to see Tuukka in goal against the Jets on Friday night. Hopefully the effort will be there in front of him.

It's not a "classic hip check" as those hits the players normally are coming perpendicular to each other. Player X with the puck is skating up the boards and Player Y skates sideways towards the boards to squish the player between his hip and the boards.

Marchand's hit comes almost head on, and that is the main difference. It's still a hip check, because the point of contact is hip on hip, but much more dangerous because his momentum can cause the player being hit to flip.

It was called clipping on the ice, which is clearly wrong. Clipping is defined in the rules as hitting across the knees. It might look similar to a clip from far away, but close up you see the point of contact is a foot above his knees. It was a bit late (.5 seconds I think I read?), and regardless it was still a dangerous play, but according to the rule book it's legal.

The NHL needs to look at these low-bridge/submarine hits/hip checks in the offseason and more clearly define the rules regarding them. It needs to be explicitly stated what is allowed and what isn't.

Hal Gill did a great Ulf Samuelsson impression on that play. I'm going under the assumption that Peverley has a season-ending knee injury, and any news otherwise will be a pleasant surprise.

Chiarelli needs to get on the phones now. He's out a top 6 player and the only player in his lineup that was a passable top-6 fill in. You don't make playoff runs with a third line consisting of Jordan Caron, Zach Hamill, and Josh Hennessey.

Call up Anaheim, tell them everything outside of Bergeron, Lucic, Seguin, Marchand, Chara, Thomas, Rask, Boychuk, Seidenburg, and Hamilton are fair game, and see what it would take to get Bobby Ryan.

Krejci, Spooner, and a 1st?

Maybe that will help him out of the slump he has been in the past 10-15 games.

None of this is a surprise anymore. These clowns are the ones who booed the national anthem.

Chara looked horrible at the end of the game last night, but you can't tell how much of that was residual effect of being drilled in the face by the puck.

Pavel Datsyuk scores with 5.8 seconds remaining to make it 22 straight wins at home for Detroit! That Sunday game vs. San Jose just got more interesting.

As a Preds fan, that was heart breaking. We stayed with them the whole game but we just couldn't put away any break away chances. Nonetheless amazing play by Pavel. He mafde Suter look like a chump on that final play. Their streak continues.

He sure did. Made Suter look like a chump and then made Rinne look like Datsyuk was the last guy he wanted to see. Such a sweet play from the passing to the deke. Preds played tough and really did deserve a point.

And man, how about Joey Mac playing well yet again? Wings turned it over or had some sloppy moments to give Nashville plenty of breakaways or 1 on 1s and he had to stand tall.

We need that goal scorer desperately. Im just wondering if the Preds picking up Gill is any indication that they are trading Suter. And you're right, we deserved a point last night. The Preds schedule coming out of the all star break is nasty. Go look at our first 10 games coming off the break. We have philly, Vancouver, detroit, chicago, st louis, san jose, boston. That's pretty tough for a 10 game span.

Well, lol, I wouldn't fret if I was you, given how Nashville / Rinne has owned the Blues way too much this year. Hate to admit, but was actually rooting for you guys last night! I'd rather not face the Preds in the playoffs, but given that we have insane Divisions that frick up the overall Conference standings, it looks like the we'd have a good chance at playing the Preds in the first round. Granted a lot can happen w/ ~25 games left in the season,,, and here is hoping that Red Wings start crashing like the Blackhawks did, and the Blues get over their road ills. Foolish hope,,, but such is life.

Yea we are what, 4-0 against y'all this year? But they have all been really close games. If I am not mistaken they have all been wins by one goal except 1. St Louis/Nashville would be an awesome playoff series. There wouldn't be a lot of scoring but the games are always close.

Aren't they in 5th? Don't see them trading Suter while they are in such good shape. More likely they are trying to load up to make a cup run before they lose Suter to free agency.

They are in 5th but look at how many points separate them from 8th. I think its 7. But why hold on to Suter just to lose him for nothing. What Nashville really needs is Alexander Radulov to come back. He has his problems but he is a good player. At the very least, maybe we can use his rights in a trade in case he does come back to the NHL. I wouldn't mind seeing him in a Preds sweater again.

It's worth it if they think they can make a legitimate cup run. I watched the Preds when they played the Bruins last week, and they look like a really good team. They play the style of hockey that is usually even better come playoff time too.

If they trade Suter, they are basically giving up on this year and hoping the players they get in return can help them get better in the next few years. The question is if that is the better option than keeping Suter and making a run now.

I think you have it backwards. If we trade Suter, the only person we will trade for is a forward. We will get someone who can score thus trying to making a good run this year. If we keep Suter, we will just try to sign him later. We don't have to worry about future prospects, we have an amazing farm team. Overall I think it's worth the risk giving up Suter. By trading him I don't think that sends the message that we are giving up this year at all.

If anyone here is a Wild fan, you should be ashamed of your team. I will gladly give them the award for most classless team in the NHL.

I was just about to come here and say that. That was a cheap shot on Backes. One of several cheap shots by them in today's game, but that was by far the worst.

Shanny's going to be busy reviewing video.

For real. That game was terrible. They're just a bunch of punks. If you noticed, all they did was gang up on one person. Clutterbuck will be suspended and the guy who did the crosscheck to the face will be fined and suspended for sure.

Man the Blackhawks, especially Crawford, look good today. They're putting it on Columbus

I think anyone looks good beating up on Columbus.

That said, a silly game like that one can help open the floodgates for more scoring. Lord Stanley knows they need it with their crummy team D and average goaltending.

I understand it is Columbus but did you see some of the opportunities the Jackets had in the first? Crawford made some incredible saves.
