First period was some of the worst hockey I can remember watching in some time. Second got interesting at times. Think we're good for the rest of the series. Just had to shake off that rust and nerves. ;)

It was definitely not the kind of game NBC was hoping for. If any new fans tuned in, I doubt they'll be back for game 2.

I was hoping for a long OT, just to mess with NBC's lineup.:p

What lineup? :p I've never heard of anything good on NBC not on Thursdays, and all those shows (Office, Community, 30 Rock) are all on break.

Well, today was the day for Nick to say goodbye. Just brutal, but nothing but class from his press conference. It'll be tough making ends meet to fill that gap, but I look forward to perhaps seeing him at Comerica Park (presumably) for the 2013 Winter Classic Alumni game.

Well, the nightly news and the late night talk shows.

It won't be tough once they sign Suter.

Yeah, I don't think there is any way that he'll miss the alumni game. I'm actually looking more forward to that than the actual game!

Since I am too lazy to go find it, I did predict earlier this year that he would play if he retired.....

I do recall you saying that.

That being said, it's not like you picked some frickin' winning lottery numbers there.:D

touche-

so do the kings make it 10-0 on the road?

If they can continue to keep the devils to minimal shots, pressure their D, create chances, I think they can.

game 2 away is their thing. they will dominate tonight. GKG

i have decided that i clearly cannot pick hockey games anymore. I thought the Devils would find a way to even this up, but clearly the Kings are incapable of losing on the road.

It won't be a sweep, but I think the Devils are done.

Weird game. Period one to LA, 2 was a bit even, 3 to Jersey, first few mins of OT to LA, next like 8 or so to NJ (but oddly most of their chances didn't actually get on net to register shots) and then LA with that final push.

Some fun hockey. This should have been game one to entice the casual fans. Hope plenty were watching tonight since it was a weekend, but there was the NBA on as well.

I hope they do get swept, it might increase the chances of Parise going to free agency. With the whole Tim Thomas situation, the Bruins might have plenty of money to go after him. That would give the Bruins the 1st line winger they desperately need. Who knows what will happen though, if he goes to FA there will be lots of teams trying to sign him.

If Thomas "retires" (i put it in quotes since i dont know what to call it), you will need to put that money into a goalie, so i wouldnt be throwing money at Parise.

Now if you want Anti Niemi as your goalie, I am sure we can come to an agreement (im thinking Big Z....)

I'm pretty sure I heard/read that Thomas' salary would still count against the cap because he's still under contract for next year. So the Bruins wouldn't have extra money to spend because Thomas is sitting out.

What a team player!

His $5 million cap hit will still count against the cap.

^ Post above. You don't get any of that money back. Cap hit still applies. You do, however, get that $4M DL like exception (forget NHL name) for the Marc Savard contract to offset it. So really you're down $1M, I suppose.

Edit: I don't want the Kings to sweep. I want them to win 1 game so LA can take it back to NJ and go 11-0, breaking the 10 road playoff win record.

It had to be Carter:rolleyes: Who's next Richards:rolleyes: I'll be drinking with them soon enough at the Princeton in Avalon;):D

We already have Tuukka Rask. He is a legit NHL #1 goalie. Anton Khudobin is a solid back up option.

In reality as far as cap space and money spent goes, "taking the year off" and retiring has the same effect since he has a 35+ contract. His $5 million cap hit would count against them either way. That said, the cap is going up to about $70 million this year, and there is a chance Chiarelli can flip the rights to Thomas to a team that needs that extra $5 million to go over the cap floor. They wouldn't have to pay out any actual money, but it would put them over the number they needed. Obviously, it would be for a bag of pucks, but if it helps out both teams (free up space for the Bruins and put another team over the floor), it would work. We shall see what happens.

I can't blame Timmy for wanting to spend more time with his family. He's 38, and he's accomplished everything he ever wanted to do and more. He wants to play in the Olympics in the beginning of 2014, and I think that's the only thing that's keeping him from officially retiring. As much as the media wants to trash him, the city of Boston will be forever grateful to him. 2011 was one of the best single seasons by a goalie ever, and he was the biggest reason the boys brought the cup back after 39 years. That I will never forget.

If those are the honest reasons for retiring, all power to him. If he stuck around, he'd be distracted or unhappy and not play to the top of his game. However, Thomas being a goalie for the Olympics is a stretch. I mean here's probably the team USA roster:

1) Quick
2/3) Miller (appreciation nod, rises to the occasion as in 2010)
3) ???

Probably Corey Schneider based on talent or Howard due to pulling IIHF duty this year and being solid. Any other USA goalies worth mentioning that I can't think of?

Is Tim Thomas on his absolute best better than either? Yes to Howard, big maybe at best compared to Schneider. Except Schneider is significantly younger. Miller is the "aging" pick nod, don't need two of those. If it's Schneider, I'd slot him as the #2, but if Howard then Miller at 2. Also kind of "If picking right now" scenario.

Obviously Quick is #1, but I'd have Schneider as #2 and Thomas as #3. He's got that big game experience.

I heard that Lou Lamoriello is Adelle's agent/manager:rolleyes::p Can anybody confirm this?:p Who sing'n the anthem at the Kings game tonight?

The New York Times had a new story about Boogaard-just as sad and 10x more troubling than the previous one

if anyone here knows a doctor, ask how someone can get over 600 pills in 6 months from 10 doctors.

Totally ridiculous, and the medical board should investigate this case to find out why this was allowed to happen.

Hey robo
How does it feel to see your team (Gagne, Richards, Carter) about to win the Cup?:D:p

That first Kings goal should not have been allowed to stand. The ref screwed that call up. Give Marty some respect.....

This is the kind of stuff that could be reviewable.

I think I know someone who does not want the kings to win tomorrow more than the Devils and their fans-

LAPD!

I don't think they will have enough cops to ensure a riot does NOT ensue.

Well, I'm calling the Cup for the Kings in 4. Quick was absolutely astonishing tonight. He was in the zone like I've rarely seen. The Devils owned the puck the first period and should have won that game. But they just fell apart. Brodeur looked demoralized and made mistakes I would not have expected him to make. Marty is usually more controlled. He looked very sloppy and tired.

This will all be over Wednesday and the cup will go to LA.
