Ferguson...I'm not holding out any hopes. I feel like he'll be around literally forever.

I like the fact that "shareholder concerns" are being cited by the media as the primary reason that a rapid installation of an adequate replacement for Fergie. That's what football is about these days. Shareholder concerns.

I suppose that's less awful than contemplating the level of corruption at FIFA, eh?

Mercenary sport as far as the top brass are concerned.

On another note. Kits...not sure if they've already been posted but 13/14 kits are starting to leak out. Images will probably run out of bandwidth eventually but meh...it'll do for now.

30m Pounds a year???!
That's some crazy business over there.

re kits, good to see Barca backing off a bit from that hidious orange/yellow combination they were using this time. But bring back Unicef!

And the Samsung away gets sweeter every time I glance at it. Would love to present it here on the Munich catwalks...:D

*pitches I mean

...and its official, Fergie will blow the final whistle on his 26-year MUFC reign at the end of the season.

United statement reads: "The most successful manager in English football history will bow out after the West Bromwich Albion game on 19 May and join the football club board."

Cue the media going into a frenzy, and not shutting up about it for months.

Apparently - media - not looking for a quick fix or a hired gun, in it for the long term, and the target/manager wll be named within 48 hours:

Mourinho - long term = no,

Klopp - 48 hours = no, Champions League to win,

Moyes - shown he'll stick around = yes, gamble re Europe = yes.

How far have we got with cloning?:)

5 minutes to be added to every match this weekend.

Re the Chelsea Away kit - not sure about the height of the horizontal lines.

Cheers,
OW :(

Moyes is apparently the one who will take over the helm.

Still at crazy rumour stage mind.

Some timely news as we're discussing kits – there's been a fair bit of talk over the last few months that Arsenal will be moving to Adidas in 2014-15, but word this morning is that the Gunners have agreed a deal with Puma for the supply of their polyester rags.

£30 million a season over five years, it's reckoned.

Read about this. Another coup for IvanTheTerrible.

True that. Thought the same about my iToys kit btw (no offense Jaffa, astonishing work still), on the brink of being (too) retro, but still kind of minimal. Well, not that I'd walk around in a shirt with a big fat S A M S U N G logo without even getting paid for doing so anyway. But playing soccer in Munich in such a shirt is quite tempting I've to say.

Cheers

'pool home
barca home and away
and kinda lke the man u away.

the other two pool kits are hideous.

I think the Barca home strip is very elegant, lovely clean lines. The ManU away has been ruined by the oversize sponsors logo.

Reading that SirA will move upstairs (to the board, not heaven) if he's got much influence on his sucessor, and you'd have to think he would, then you'd have to fancy Moyes. Moyes perhaps won't have the instant sucess so it depends what the plc board want, building for future or the instant gratification that Jose will bring.

That white Chelsea away is very, very smart.

Agreed. Probably my favorite of the bunch. The Liverpool home kit is an improvement over the current one. But the other two - my God, the 90s are back? Awful.

Apparently Ferg's moving upstairs. I would argue that this may be a limiting factor - Fergie's ability to work with other managers from this position (and other managers' willingness to have him looking over their shoulder) is far from proven. I can't see Mourinho putting up with that, for one, though I agree he will probably not be the man chosen.

No idea who the replacement will be - but I do know one thing: that person will not be hanging around for decades nor winning 13 titles.

Pool shirts are hideous  What's up with those??

Strange that the logo print on the Barca shirts are made different also in typeface. Are those confirmed kits?

The ManU kits are boring (home) and awful (away). Checkerboards? Really? Too late to the party. And yes logo print is gigantic.

Lord Blackadder,

I can't see the club putting up with the Mourinho circus, enter Moyes - and the Scot is likely to cause less waves through staff at all levels. The worries are his record against the top EPL contenders of the day, ability to attract 'big name' players - though they are not always the best, and Europe.

If the manager stays for 10 years; a top 4 position for 7 years - including a title, a European final, decent style of football, and stability = :)

Cheers,
OW

Moyes is unproven in Europe and in terms of managing big money and (arguably) a big ego squad. He is a gamble, but clearly a competent manager. He might blossom into a truly great manager at a bigger club.

On the other hand, most of the top, proven managers like Mou or Ancelotti are probably too much the journeymen to expect a decade-long reign. If you want someone who will be around for 10 years you're probably going to have to hire a manager with less cachet and hope he grows into the role.

I vote for Paolo Di Canio.;)

Take a bow, Fergie. We'll never see his like again.

I don't think United should even try to find the next guy to manage there for the next 20 years. Moyes has done pretty well at Everton, but I don't get the feeling he's going to impress on the biggest stage, and he has zero experience in Europe.

As many negatives as Mourinho has, he's one of the few managers that can handle such an enormous job without any question. If he managed United for 4-6 years and Ole Gunner Solskjaer took over for him... that could be a good plan.

IMHO the idea of signing a "concept" coach as a very long term plan sounds all well and dandy but in reality very few of those big announcements turn out to be great

Klinsmann at Bayern ?
Thorsten Fink at HSV ?

and even if it work, behind the scene club politics can force out succesfull ones liek Rangnik at Hoffenheim... and with someone like Ferguson moving into the management there is little room for big personalities

another important point for top big club is if the new coach can connect to the 'diva' players and to handle the psychological factor
Heynckes is excellent at that for example ... Magath on the other side is known for uniting the players with their universal hatred for their coach ;)

I just don't see Mou hanging around very long. He'll bring titles and possibly even a Champions League, but he won't be around for 10 years or even 5. When he was at Chelsea he was still building a reputation - now he doesn't need to prove anything to anyone and can come and go as he pleases.

On top of that, he might prefer to go back to Chelsea over United.

Good point. The biggest challenge for Man Utd is finding a manager who will be willing to hang around for 10 years, or that they'll be willing to keep for that long. Such tenures are quite rare these days among top teams.

Maybe they need to start behaving like other teams and only plan ahead for 2-5 years at most. Ferguson is a relic of a different era - and that era is gone forever.
