result of todays women's friendly:
Germany vs Japan 4:2 (1:1)

(Europe Cup Champion against World Champion and Olympia 2nd)
(After Japan kicked Germany out of the 4th final of the World Cup 2011).

Curiously the first goal was made by left wing defender Leonie Maier, just like in the last friendly against Kanada. Well, I remember 2004's and 2006's men's tournaments were Lahm did the first goal in the first match of the first round (do you say group-phase? Doesn't sound english). :) And the first goal against Italy in 2012, was by Lahm, too. :) If the girls do it like that in the Euro Cup, too, I'd say it's ok :)

They also broke the record for a friendly match in the big FC Bayern Munich "Allianz"-Arena! Which is remarkable considering, that it is a women's match. It was 46.104 viewers.

It is funny to see the young players can analyse and describe the match better than the "expert" in the TV studio (fromer women's national team player). That well describes how women's football has developed and gotten more sophisticated and training isn't just playing-lessons, but going to a football school from when the girls are 15 on and learning theoretical stuff such as tactics as well. I would prefer to see a coach or teacher to comment in the TV studio over a retired player from when women's football was very different and not taken serious.
(Remember men's matches from the late 60ies, compared to today's matches, that's like the same difference. I mean players like Uwe Seeler, Beckenbauer,... compared to today.).

Rumored to be the new Spurs kits:

i don't get the "financial motives" bit.... did they somehow gain financially...?
The police originally moved kick off from 3pm to dinnertime - a common occurrence with derby matches. However, Sky then decided that they wanted to televise the match and put pressure on the Football League and Huddersfield Town to move kick off again, this time to a tea time start.

The police weren't happy, and stated that as a result their bill for covering the match would be increased by more than £40,000 - this figure fluctuated somewhat though, suggesting it was being plucked out of thin air somewhat. A key reason for the extra money they were demanding was apparently having to police Hull City supporters during the afternoon, the police claimed to have intelligence that trouble was planned - there was talk of the town centre being 'occupied' by hooligans and that it would be a no go area for law abiding locals whose safety would be at grave risk. Obviously, quite the slur on us.

As we've seen though, no such intelligence existed and when challenged to provide it WYP assigned officers to scour the internet to try and find anything that could be construed as evidence that we would be a threat to public order. They struggled, to put it mildly.

Rumored to be the new Spurs kits...
Hmm... I'm suspicious. They seem to use the same Photoshop templates I use to produce our Fantasy Football kits, and there's surely no way the sponsor on the away shirt would get past the FA's guidelines covering the size and placement of such logos.

Fake, I reckon.

1: Ahhhh...

2. Hope yer correct cos I think those kit are pretty unspectacular compared to what Spurs wore last season.

Look at the bottom hoop on the one on the left - perfectly horizontal, it doesn't follow the shape of the hem. This was an error in the Photoshop template until it was corrected a revision or two ago. These are just mock ups someone's produced.

new MASSIVE SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY FC away kit..

it keeps growing on me. puma sucks though. i don't like that bit of a yellow streak across the front... at least it isn't running down our back!

@ confed 3rd place:
was that red for Montelivo ok? I am not so sure, but I might be biased, because it was Suarez, :) who let himself fall or was fouled, depending from what side you look at it ;)

Cavani bears resemblance of an Aztec warrior from a movie to me :D

Never thought Spain would be losing a midfield battle. Brazil making quickwork of them all over the pitch. Also i can already tell i won't like Neymar going forward. Talented player but he goes to ground far too easily and looks a bit up himself.

Unfortunately I only watched some of the game, on the street in a stream. But I think all european teams will have a lot of trouble dealing with the different weather conditions, maybe since they'll have more time to adjust it will be a a bit easier, but from what I could tell throughout the tournament that was the case.

It'll be interesting next year for sure.

The whole thing is completely outrageous. Glad the police come out of it with egg on their face, but some heads should roll over this. It's a flagrant abuse of authority.

Not even the money-grubbing Premier League would allow logos that big on shirts.

...yet. But give it ten years or so and it may be the norm.

Super huge logos? Probably not.

But loads of smaller logos all over the shirt and shorts, as we see in places such as Scandinavia? I could see it happening. The Football League already allows back of shirt and short sponsorship...

I see an ever-accelerating trend of increasing commercialization, sponsorship and corporate influence. I don't think this process is irreversible, but at the same time I don't see it slowing down. If MLS was offered a huge amount of money from a corporate sponsor to put huge logos on shirts, I don't see them turning it down.

urgh .. just pray you won't get those short sponsorships .... it looks ridiculous

my 'favourite' is the huge "Kleine Zeitung (= "Small newspaper") ad on the back side of Sturm Graz shorts ... utterly hilarious

only thing worse are those small sticker ads they put on the staff before an interview

Remember back in the early years the hideous "Visa" and "Honda" logos the graced the backs of MLS kits? Even though they were league sponsors they put them on every teams kit. I think Powerade was another one.

Bayern's Gomez anounced to move to AC Florence.
As you know I am not a constant follower - is this a "downgrade" or an "upgrade" for Gomez? And was this a good buy for Florence? (I mean I see him as a "shelf warmer" anyway. I know, most of you will see him different.)

PS: Götze showed up with a Nike T-Shirt at Bayern :)

^ you mean like this:

don't care, but adidas will be p***ed

Gomez is a real cheapo for Florence at €18m. You see him benched there? Nah, he's not THAT bad..:D

Dortmund just bought Aubameyang from Etienne btw.

They'd do it again too, if it fit their revenue needs.
Moving away from unwelcome sponsors on shirts...

BOQm0j3CAAETdc_.jpg-large.jpeg

It uses the template we anticipated, but all in all I don't think it looks at all bad - aside from the sponsor. As regular readers will know I'm never happy to see it on a City shirt, but leaving aside the company in question the application of it looks very poor indeed. A real shame, as I think it's the nicest home kit Adidas have knocked out for us over the last few years.

Football news.

I see that Steve McClaren is going to QPR, to work on the technical staff.

I also see that goalkeeper Allan McGregor will join Hull City from Besiktas.
