so far: Germany 1 undeserved
(I was almost predicting it before the game, that they will only get a "lucky punch". We'll see what the next half brings.)

Hungary 1 Netherlands 4

Things are beginning to look better for the Netherlands. The very inexperienced team played like a well oiled machine. Jeremain Lens was just fantastic, but all in all the whole team played like Dutch football should be played.

Tomorrow, everyone please have a few quiet moments of contemplation as the enquiry into the Hillsborough disaster publishes its findings. Hope it brings some closure to the family and the city as a whole.

England save face with a late penalty to equalize. Stevie G, who should have been sent off in the first half, gets a second yellow and walks. Both of those yellows could have been reds.

Ukraine probably better team and probably deserved to win...unless they can pull out a winner in stoppage...4 mins to go.

EDIT: 1-1 final. Ukraine deserved the point for sure, and probably a win. England didn't look so good. They were missing players to be fair - but I still think they will consider this two points dropped.

So the Netherlands, Germany, France, Italy and Spain all won today. Predictable stuff.

USA 1-0 Jamaica

The performance was...sufficient. USA dominated the first half, with almost eighty percent possession against a Jamaica side who plopped eleven men behind the ball and camped in their own area. USA struck the bar three times and forced a couple great saves from the keeper, but failed to score.

We finally scored around ten minutes into the second half. Herculez Gomez' free kick was on target but the keeper probably should have saved it. Instead it bounced in off his hands. Once we scored Jamaica pushed up the pitch, creating plenty of trouble but fortunately mustering few shots.

Clint Dempsey was clearly not match fit. He also dropped too deep to fight for balls and didn't have the pace or stamina to get back into attacking positions. His flicks and tricks were off today and he got into every Jamaica player's face at some point in the match. His transfer saga definitely put him in a funk. Overall the players did well but I felt there were too many turnovers in the midfield, especially later in the match when we needed to hold on to the ball. Brek Shea was brought on to push up the left wing but he played so deep I thought we had two left backs for the last half hour.

USA remain undefeated in Crew Stadium, and have now climbed to first in their qualifying group on goal difference (Guatemala and Jamaica are tied with us on 7 points).

Something to cheer up the gooners :)

Actually when I saw the team sheet, and watching previous games against the Ukraine where we always seem to find it hard to score, I was actually 'hoping' we'd manage a draw

There needs to be a new inquest with full, unrestricted access to the truthful facts about Hillsborough, and those responsible for falsifying evidence to protect their own hides need to be made fully accountable for their actions.

The Sun haven't made it headline news and their small article seems to suggest the 'misleading' media stuff came from a Sheffield news agency.

I'm not allowed to post abuse on here am I?

A new inquest is now an absolute requirement. I would expect perjury prosecutions as well.

I saw that myself a little earlier – a colleague was reading various pieces about the report online and commented on the lack of coverage there compared to the other news outlets. This isn't surprising in the slightest of course, as The Sun was a key player in spreading the notion that the tragedy was caused purely by 'drunken ticketless louts' – a story which has once again been debunked by this latest report.

During my dinner hour I read some of the details revealed today about what went on and how things were covered up – there's some stuff in there that was already known of course, and stuff that was suspected to have happened, but it makes for absolutely sickening reading.

Absolutely. Obviously, I came into this long after the original event, but the story makes for some horrifying reading - not just in terms of the actions of the police and other officials but certain segments of the press.

People have been actively pushing to get this stuff exposed for decades; now that they have essentially succeeded I'm sure they will go the next step and legally pursue the individuals and groups responsible.

EDIT: Clint Dempsey was not a fan of some of the Jamaican players' complaints to the ref last night:

Great showing by Chicago tonight as they eliminate a dreadful Toronto FC from playoff contention. They jumped to 2nd in the east with no sign of a slow down.

I was hoping for a draw/loss for Chicago there. Columbus is 5 points behind Chicago, clinging to the 5th and final playoff spot in the East with 7 games left to play. DC United is just one point behind us with a superior goal difference, but we have a game in hand.

I'm hoping San Jose win the Supporter's Shield this year, as I think they've been the most consistent and have also scored the most goals by far.

I believe we have the same goal difference, but it's really moot anyways :(, i really hoped your guys would've hammered jamaica, now we gotta win one and tie one to advance, unless barbuda beats jamaica then we can lose one

If he keeps his temper going like that i'm pretty sure we'll see a fight in the GUA game.

As we're currently playing i don't give us much of a chance, we might be able to tie both games and that won't probably be enough.

i bet we sweep GUA...

If we don't win anything within 24 months i think Wenger will bow out. In fact i think thats the only thing he's waiting for.
