Looks like Moyes has said Fellaini could be sold in January if the asking price is met. Hopefully Fellaini continues to do well and drive his stock higher so Everton can once again sell high and buy 2-3 players with the funds.

One thing I've noticed about the Eredivisie so far this season, Bunny – is it just me or have there been a lot of red cards flying around? There seems to be a red or two dished out every round of matches, and Utrecht aren't the first team to go down to nine men this season – Zwolle had two sent off a week or two back (against NEC I think?).

Are the referees coming down really hard on players wearing the wrong coloured ankle tape or something?

I have no inside information, but I do think that the referees got, a be tough message from the KNVB.

It depends, what TV-channels do you talk about in particular? I find ARD and ZDF have some good and some accepatable commentators. Sport1 and Eurosport, I find terrible 90% of the time. Don't often watch the english Eurosport commentary, because I the being two commentators, they often get lost somewhere, talking about other stuff.
If you mean Sky. I don't have the feeling to want to pay for Sky, because marketing gives me the impression of being somewhat like Sport1 and the Pro7-media-empire. So I do not even think of spending money for them. Of course this limits the number of games I am able to watch, but since I am a bit cherry-picking, as you might have allready guessed from my prevoius posts, that's ok for me.

I meant the whole bunch actually. Of course some are better (that would be ARD, but don't like them either) and some are worse like all the SKY douchebags. Maybe it's just me being tired of their voices, repetetive tabloid stories and actual method of a verbose description of a game. Could be it's the same in England if you get used to it, but everytime I'm in Spain I like the way they do it and when I'm watching ESPN or BBC, for example, I like it too. Both being very different styles of course, but mostly two guys talking instead of one just getting lost talking in monologue.

It wasn't just the scoreline that impressed, the whole team played fantastically well together. Bruce has employed a 3-5-2 formation the last few games and it's working a treat so far.

We took the foot off the pedal in the second half but still looked very, very comfortable. Leeds United are next up, away on Tuesday night. That'll be when it all comes to a juddering halt. :p

So Big Steve Bruce is getting a job done there apparently. Are there any lingering squabbles over the sacking of Barmby? How do the supporters feel about the owner these days?

Columbus has used a 3-5-2 on occasion, but rarely. Coach Warzycha is a very cautious manager. He favors a defensively-minded midfield and his subs are usually defensive in nature. I think this is the major sticking point between him and many of the fans, who want to see more attacking. Now that we have a couple new creative players (Higuain being the key), I'm hoping our manager becomes more adventurous - but its really not in his nature.

Pardon my ignorance, but are most games in Germany televised with just one announcer?

Fox Soccer Channel (a US channel) broadcasts Serie A matches with just one announcer. I agree that two announcers can be annoying. US announcers are getting better, but for years it was just two guys having a conversation over the game, and only paying attention to the action when something big happened. They even talked over goals sometimes. This is thankfully much less common, but some of the MLS announcers still do it.

This makes me wonder if the concept of the "color commentator" is an anglophone thing, or just an American thing that has made it over to England...(at least when it comes to futbol)

Most folk seem to be behind Bruce – after all, he had no part in what happened before he arrived and the fact that we've been playing some rather nice football helps greatly.

Funnily enough, the club and LMA put out a statement on the matter only a few days ago...

Nick Barmby and Hull City FC are pleased to announce that they have resolved all issues arising from the termination of Nick Barmby’s employment as Manager of the Club in May of this year.

Nick Barmby left the Club following comments made to the media about the Club’s transfer policy. Nick accepts that his comments could have been misconstrued.

The Club now accepts that Nick Barmby did not in any of his interviews with the media have any intention of disparaging the Club or its owners.

It would seem that a financial settlement has been reached and as part of this Barmby is to keep his mouth shut about what went on behind closed doors. Basically, the statement doesn't really say anything.

It's notable that the owners have been quieter than usual since Bruce's appointment, one hopes they've learnt a bit of a lesson out of all of this.

Interesting. All the games in Germany are run with one announcer. And believe me, this 'talking over a goal' is still possible. I find 'em all plain incompetent. :D

While I can imagine two announcers starting their 'own' conversation getting lost, still it seems much more natural to me than listening to one person talking crap with himself. Maybe it's just me though, preferring English, Spanish or Italien announcers much more because it's easier to fade-out foreign languages than your mother tongue. Plus I prefer the English accent and humor and who doesn't like the 'southern spirit', if you know what I mean.

If you were to have two commentators, you'd immediately be opening yourself up to the possibility of a Mark Lawrenson taking to the airwaves.

I don't think any of us really want to see that happen.

they sometimes still have two announcers, mostly on the international level though. this one is probably classic in every way

commentators in Germany are horrible and absolutely incompentent, not sure how it is in other countries

They are lucky that Bruce has come in and done well.

That is funny, considering just how competently football seems to be managed in Germany. I know it's a stereotype, but compared with the largely ineffective English FA the Germans look like they run a tight ship.

What would a German version of Lawro be like?

Well, you can have that "color comentator" thing and the main announcer in one person instead :) just talking less crap, if nothing happens he will start talking about statistics or backround stpries but be more likely to be attentive when something happens and immediately get back to the action on the field, stopping his sentence in the middle.

On the international level, as olup said we have that kind of color comentating (a nice word actually, because it depicts how "colourful" some bloat the commentary) in halftime breaks and afterwards, when a former player analyses the game with the studio presenter. ARD has former Bayern midfielder Mehmet Scholl (talking crap), ZDF has former Bayern keeper Oliver Kahn (the older he gets the more crap he speeks), the private channels (channels that finance with commercials) have Franz Beckenbauer (just being him, nothing more to say ;) and there is one channel (RTL) which does not usually broadcast football, that had Jürgen Klinsmann as a real color commentator during the game (world cup 2010, it was, I think), he was so annoying, because he seemed to not even have any clue and then his voice, outch!
Interestingly Lahm said, Klinsmann was stupid as a coach, too, because the players had to develop their own tactics, all Klinsmann did, was cheering them up, something he must have learned in America. Sorry just a joke referring to the endless american willingness to fight.

This would a german Lawrence look like, perhaps :) Interestingly all "experts" are former Bayern players. ZDF once had Dortmunds coach Jürgen Klopp (Mainz 05 coach back then). He public loved "Kloppo" and still does.
Günther Netzer was analysing once, too (not so long ago, as an old man).

Sorry for this long winded post from a football non expert part time watcher :)

To show how crappy the Eurosport and Sport1 commentator duos are, I would like to tell about the commentators of the olympic women's running challenge. A kenian woman got to the finish line and held a picture of Maria and the Jesus child. The comentator (being born and raised in conservative catholic Bavaria, which is our Texas ;)) said "now she thanks her god" (he must have been thinking "Oh a black woman, must be a bushwoman, so she must have some natural tribe god")

Better than a German Andy Townsend.
Cheers,
OW

The guy who announced bundesliga games on GolTv made me want to throw a brick at my tv.

All those commentators sounded like they'd even get rejected from Radio 4 for being boring!

Never heard of these guys, but it seems like we all have our bricks quite near the couch.. :D

@Happybunny: How's Ajax doing this season so far?

Ajax after five matches is third. For Ajax it is just thankful that the off the pitch war, seems to be over between the various directors.
So far only FC Twente has played to their full potential, but it is early days yet.

As for commentators here in the Netherlands we have the usual mix of good bad and should be doing something else. On Public TV the commentators are for the most part neutral, with exception of PSV and Ajax. On the commercial channels it's more Ajax.

Thank's. Can't really decide which game to focus on this evening Real-City or Dortmund-Ajax, always these hard decisions to make. Curious about Paris this CL-saison, that's quite a Wundertüte

to put things into perspective: one of the austrian TV football pundits confessed once that during his coaching jobs from time to time he filled his drinking bottle half water-half white wine ... well at least that's before he was on the austrian "Dancing with the stars"

and the actual commentators are either biased ,clueless, un-funny or all 3 things together
the live commentator on the german Sport1 for the second german bundesliga are better

Oliver Kahn isn't great in his outfield analysis but he has at least the plus point of being able to spot a keeper mistake a mile away (to his defense he is teamed up with Müller-Hohenstein who at times is rather 'austrian' in her expertise)

Scholl is actually quite good when looking at outfield tactical/positional stuff but his rather obvious provocative statements trying to emulate Netzer can be tiresome

on to todays games: Real vs City will be televised but i think Dortmund vs. Ajax is going to be the more emotional since it's more or less a 6 point game
Dortmund simply has to win ... yet another year out in the group phase would be catastrophic

Haha...explosive match!

But City bottle it. *sigh*

Still somewhat glad the game panned out just as i wanted/predicted. Madrid win in 90th min.

Hopefully we get something at the Etihad on Sunday.
