One thing I've noticed about the Eredivisie so far this season, Bunny is it just me or have there been a lot of red cards flying around? There seems to be a red or two dished out every round of matches, and Utrecht aren't the first team to go down to nine men this season Zwolle had two sent off a week or two back (against NEC I think?).
Are the referees coming down really hard on players wearing the wrong coloured ankle tape or something?
It depends, what TV-channels do you talk about in particular? I find ARD and ZDF have some good and some accepatable commentators. Sport1 and Eurosport, I find terrible 90% of the time. Don't often watch the english Eurosport commentary, because I the being two commentators, they often get lost somewhere, talking about other stuff.
If you mean Sky. I don't have the feeling to want to pay for Sky, because marketing gives me the impression of being somewhat like Sport1 and the Pro7-media-empire. So I do not even think of spending money for them. Of course this limits the number of games I am able to watch, but since I am a bit cherry-picking, as you might have allready guessed from my prevoius posts, that's ok for me.
It wasn't just the scoreline that impressed, the whole team played fantastically well together. Bruce has employed a 3-5-2 formation the last few games and it's working a treat so far.
We took the foot off the pedal in the second half but still looked very, very comfortable. Leeds United are next up, away on Tuesday night. That'll be when it all comes to a juddering halt.![]()
twietee said:I meant the whole bunch actually. Of course some are better (that would be ARD, but don't like them either) and some are worse like all the SKY douchebags. Maybe it's just me being tired of their voices, repetetive tabloid stories and actual method of a verbose description of a game. Could be it's the same in England if you get used to it, but everytime I'm in Spain I like the way they do it and when I'm watching ESPN or BBC, for example, I like it too. Both being very different styles of course, but mostly two guys talking instead of one just getting lost talking in monologue.
Most folk seem to be behind Bruce after all, he had no part in what happened before he arrived and the fact that we've been playing some rather nice football helps greatly. So Big Steve Bruce is getting a job done there apparently. Are there any lingering squabbles over the sacking of Barmby? How do the supporters feel about the owner these days?
Pardon my ignorance, but are most games in Germany televised with just one announcer?
Fox Soccer Channel (a US channel) broadcasts Serie A matches with just one announcer. I agree that two announcers can be annoying. US announcers are getting better, but for years it was just two guys having a conversation over the game, and only paying attention to the action when something big happened. They even talked over goals sometimes. This is thankfully much less common, but some of the MLS announcers still do it.
This makes me wonder if the concept of the "color commentator" is an anglophone thing, or just an American thing that has made it over to England...(at least when it comes to futbol)
If you were to have two commentators, you'd immediately be opening yourself up to the possibility of a Mark Lawrenson taking to the airwaves. While I can imagine two announcers starting their 'own' conversation getting lost, still it seems much more natural to me than listening to one person talking crap with himself.
Interesting. All the games in Germany are run with one announcer. And believe me, this 'talking over a goal' is still possible. I find 'em all plain incompetent.

Maybe it's just me though, preferring English, Spanish or Italien announcers much more because it's easier to fade-out foreign languages than your mother tongue. Plus I prefer the English accent and humor and who doesn't like the 'southern spirit', if you know what I mean.
It's notable that the owners have been quieter than usual since Bruce's appointment, one hopes they've learnt a bit of a lesson out of all of this.

I don't think any of us really want to see that happen.
The guy who announced bundesliga games on GolTv made me want to throw a brick at my tv.
That is funny, considering just how competently football seems to be managed in Germany. I know it's a stereotype, but compared with the largely ineffective English FA the Germans look like they run a tight ship.
What would a German version of Lawro be like?![]()

Better than a German Andy Townsend.

All those commentators sounded like they'd even get rejected from Radio 4 for being boring!
@Happybunny: How's Ajax doing this season so far?
