We are jesting pachyderm, thank you very much for sharing the photo. But I'm not going to type LubePro into Google, thank you very much (at least not at work.)

I would share a picture with you if I could find it, if anybody has a picture of Toryglen Boys Club Gala Cup winning side (1987) then look for the boy with the HUGE afro.

So as racism rows rumble on in football, I was quite shocked to read talks of a Black Players Association

I mean, surely that's racist in itself? Why would anyone want to segregate themselves. Isn't that defeating the object?

The NAACP was one of the organizations that played a key role in the civil rights movement of the 1960s in the US. Such organizations form because the minority group in question feels that government or other mainstream organizations are failing to protect them. In the context of widespread institutional racism on the part of governments or large segments of society, such organizations are often the only effective means of social change or mutual protection.

The formation of a black players' association would send the message that FIFA, the FA and Kick it Out are not dealing effectively with racism as far as black players are concerned. I wouldn't call it racist - but it could create an even more divisive environment.

I think FIFA is doing a pretty bad job of dealing with racism in football, so it's largely their own fault if the situation gets worse. But they don't give a damn about anything unless it is a source of revenue.

I see! In that case, I propose that the digit deprived Robert is issued with the number 11 shirt. :)

lol. he actually ended up getting his #27 put on. it isn't on the front though. =P

because we have a play off and a championship FIFA makes us have player cards and we have to check in before every game so numbers and a valid ID are required as of this season.

True, but the Black Player's Association is segregationist by its name.

The NAACP had more than Black people as members.

I only see a Black Players Association as self segregation. Surely that is NOT what football needs right now. They need a united front, with players supporting eachother, rather than an 'us and them' attitude

And yer, poor Celtic, they almost got something out of it, but were undone in the last kick of the game

Edit: Happy Birthday to Sheffield FC, the worlds oldest football club, who are 154 today!

Their first ever team pic...

Love it! Love how they don't care at all, although it's like what, the first pic ever taken of them? If that is staged - I'll lift my hat. If not, too.
How cool, watch how the third one upper left isn't even looking into the camera! Jeez those were the times I guess. Thank's for posting this.

And isn't there a Lady as well at present? Looks like it.

hmm, could work well both ways I'd guess. Don't want to sound sexist or something, but when I visited the playgrounds of Buenos Aires, I noticed legions of female soccer teams. One being more attractive than the other and all loved playing soccer. That must be how heaven looks like! Would have had gladly, I repeat gladly, played the male counterpart in all their team-shots.

All good team pics have a lady present, as I'm sure pachyderm will testify! :)

More impressive facial hair than Lube Pros (Yarnksi aside), as I'm sure pachyderm would concede. ;)

I agree. Extreme measures are necessary in extreme situations, but I don't think the situation has gotten so bad that a Black Players' Association is called for.

Happy Birthday Sheffield FC!

I love 19th century photographic posing conventions. Look stern and dignified. Grinning is for idiots. ;)

Have to say that I look really forward watching BVB-Real this evening...hope they can pull of some more goals than last game vs ManCity! Should be an entertaining game.

Last nights match Germany managed a draw, again (if that's the right word). 2:2, with USA always shooting the leading goal.

I find it impressive that the USA still plays forward, when already heading and not concentrating on defence only (though they actually had to do that often enough. But they managed to do both things very well, still going forward, while keeping up very good defence work, despite the two mistakes, which promptly lead to the two German goals. I wonder, if Germany would have made any goal, if the US had not made these two mistakes, because though Germany had more chances, no ball was testing US-goal-keeper Solo hard).

I think its a big deal, and there is a lot of room for growth in the womens' game. I doubt that women's' professional league will ever approach the level of the men's leagues in terms of viewership or money - but the women's World Cup and Olympics have a lot of potential.
As I mentioned earlier, I took a look into the youth cups this year. It is interesting how much women's football has improved in such a short time.

(In a way you can already see this in the behaviour and the structures. 1. FFC Frankfurt is the FC Bayern of Women's football and they clearly adapted the clubs habits. Buying all good and well known players off of teams all over the world, partly as "bench warmers". :D )

Germany featured 5 players on the field, that had won silver in the Under20 world cup two months ago against USA. In one way they are forced to rely on these young players and on the other hand they really benefit from them, after one year of recreation. It's intersting that they can keep up with those experienced players like Wambach, Morgan and Rapinoe, and not to forget Solo. German 20year old striker Maroszan is so cool in front of the box, like someone who has played a long time (maybe she is just one of those people that do not think a lot :) and that is why she is so cool. Some of the younger players benefited from the rough playing by the US in the first match, because one was injured again and the other had to leave early. :) (though both were playing rough some time, wonder what a World Cup Finale would look like).

Btw. I think it was Heath, who kicked her spikes against the head of another player. Got a yellow. Maybe the referee thought, well it is a friendly match, so do not give them a red card, when they will be needed in point-competitons later.

i think it is football and it would great if the ladies would/could have an equally decent league to spotlight their talents in.

p.s. US Women's Nat. Team is the best team in the USA.

...and the best women's team in the world! FIFA ranking place 1. Germany has actually place 2, which is odd, because it should be Japan, but FIFA ranking is somehow something hard to understand.

I know it sounds goofy, but I would like to see a test match USA-women national team against on of the 1. Bundesliga Mens clubs. Some US-players look so strong, body wise, like it would not be easy to "legally" foul them.

Now I think, if Germany played two draws against the US, they can win the Euro Cup 2013 again (allready won 7 of 11 Euro Cups so far ;)). France has gotten a lot better and will most probably be the hardest candidate. Sweden is just to much suffering from their goal keeper, for my taste.

France, by the way, has an extra ordinary U17 team (won the World cup), if those once integrate into the national team, they will really be a harder to beat team, too, given how developed they are already at a young age.

Well, now watching Dortmund!

Results of the last 24 hrs have shown that the EPL has become weak. (Yes I know an EPL team won it last season but luck played a huge factor)

The fact that Ajax won last night against Manchester City surprised every one here.
The football pundits had all said that City would win, and win big. ;)

This is not a return to the glory days of Ajax, but last night showed what can be done if you just try even against formidable odds. :)

Of course the celebrations in this corner of the Netherlands was muted. :p

Magath has retired. Meanwhile Wolfsburg's Women team is under the remaining 16 in the champions League, playing on Nov. 1. (against a Norwegian team). For our British friends it might be interesting to know that Arsenal LadiesFC will meet Potsdam (the Dortmund or Schalke of women's football) on the same day. Glasgow City is already out.

City win on the telly – the last time we beat Bristol City at Ashton Gate, apparently the Beatles were topping the charts and Winston Churchill was feeling a little queasy, ahead of dying the following day.

The TV people did okay too, as it was well into the second half before we had a reference to Humberside. And as a bonus, tea included chips with chip spice on and you can't get much more Hullensian than that. :)

Well the Fire tied DC United today which places them in a one game knock-out game with Houston. I am not feeling well about this game next Wednesday.

On the other side Everton and Liverpool tomorrow morning. Looking forward to that.
