Since the World Series win in 2010, I have felt pretty good about the Giants, but halfway into this year with a key player out and one inconsistent at best I am not hopeful about playoffs.

While pitching was arguably among the best in the NL during past four years, I am scared for my team. As for hitting, I don't think they are where they could be to win it all.

The two teams who scare me most are the Nationals and Rangers and if Texas gets to a third big series with such a balanced and deep team, they will most definitely crush whoever the NL puts up to them. The Nationals are solid and working mostly off of momentum, while the AL's Rangers are a known solid entity and are on three years worth of momentum and can really only beat themselves in the AL.

My prediction is that the Yankees, while a threat, can't do as much harm as Texas. If the Nationals falter, which I highly doubt, the Reds can step in and take top spot. I wish the Giants lined up against them, but we will have to play perfect ball just to get top honors in NL. How are we going to pitch with Lincecum hot and cold and Wilson out? If Lincecum is on, he's the best rookie pitcher in baseball history (with two Cys for first two full seasons) but he's no longer the same young and seemingly invincible pitcher and I don't know if he can sustain a postseason like 2010. While Zito is still a good pitcher, his best days are behind him even though this could be one of his better SF era years overall.

Everything would have to come together for everybody from here on out to get through NL, and face a possible dynasty in the AL's Texas Rangers. In my the best scenario, I would love to see us beat Texas in big series in either 7 games or 4 full on blowouts. If we become a postseason threat year after year, which is possible if everyone stays healthy, I think we can start another real SF vs Texas rivalry, baseball style.

While a part of me will root for the Rangers to get eliminated early in AL playoffs, another part of me wants a rematch against them in World Series as the ultimate battle for 2012.

I hope the Reds continue their post season success they had in 2010 :D

Crossing my fingers for a Tex/STL rematch, I know it seems unlikely, but the entire 2011 postseason was unlikely.

The Reds look tough and it could be their year and they clinched same time as Giants and both could fall to being too cushy clinching too early on.

This season, on national league side, could all be up to the Nationals. It's theirs to lose and other NL teams like Reds or my Giants can only hope the Nationals just don't fully show up this postseason. They are ridiculous on all sides and look like the Yankees.

As for Texas, I think they will be there to take on anybody in WS. They lost against Giants fair and square and didn't have a chance, but then got much much closer following year only to lose, so they will be more hungry than anybody. 2010 was a trial run, 2011 the year for them to be considered a contender by all in baseball, and 2012 a year they have to make it happen.

The only team I could see that wants it more than the AL's Texas is the Cinderella team who has never won it, and have unbelievable momentum to boot, and that's the Nationals.

My WS prediction: Nationals 4, Texas 3 in seven games decided by less than two points and all of them being low scoring with at least two shutouts. It will mainly be a pitchers' match.

what I want, Giants 4, Texas 0 with lineup of Lincecum, Cain, Bumgarner, and Zito (yeah, that old man)

I don't think the Giants will sweep the Rangers with a lineup of Lincecum, Cain, Bumgarner, and Zito being the 1, 2, 3, and 4 hitters.

Maybe you meant with a rotation consisting of those four. ;)

the only thing I care about is seeing the cardinals suffer

I don't see san fran or st lou doing much in the NL. It will be interesting between washington and cincy but I pick washington with atlanta as a dark horse

Oops, that's right. :)

Anyway I don't know if we will use milky as a batter if and when suspension is up. If he's clean and he paid his penalty, I say use him. We will need every ounce of help to get through this. I don't think the current 2012 Giants are the same as the 2010 Giants who took it all the way.

We need to be extra tough and not rest on the laurels of a WS win, and only SF WS win. Texas will probably go all the way and if they don't win it, can be at least like a Big Red Machine and do 4 WS in 7 years or so and their runs for the postseason will become their MO. The Yankees will always be a perennial AL threat, no matter what. In the NL, I always watch for Atlanta and St. Louis. Only time will tell if Nationals had a special year or if they are going to start a dynasty.

I wonder if the Yankees just want to make this as difficult as possible.

Cali teams getting close

A's look very strong and Giants are already in, check, check.

But what do you all think about the LA Angels and the LA Dodgers? Are they toast?

Of course if the Dodgers get in, I want them to lose unless two things happen first which would be the Giants getting eliminated in playoffs and A's getting eliminated.

As for LA Angels, they already got their first, which was a really long time in the making, and if they go against the Nationals or Reds, then I will root for them.

If no local team is in for me, then it's always nice to see a team get its first so Nationals could be fun to root for if all the teams in my state are out.

Like always, but more so for me than most years, this last stretch of the MLB regular season has been a lot of fun.

Yanks and O's are 10 outs away from both clinching. Keeping a close eye on this Rangers-Angels game

The Angels will win it on last pitch and keep everybody on edge. They do that with nothing really to lose. I don't see a championship Angels team this year but they could toy with the Yanks and Os tonight. :) It's kind of like in football when the safe for playoffs team puts out their star quarterback for a few snaps and in a weird twist of fate, he gets sacked and is out.

For me, the more California teams do well, the better. But I have to really give a shout out to the O's this year.

I am watching this one, too but with eye on different outcome.

The only prize for the Yankees and O's is the division, and that race could come down to a playoff.

I completely agree but there is something nice about clinching. I'm completely scared sh@tless about the possibility of playing that Wild Card game or the one game playoff.

I don't see the Yankees getting out of the first round either way.
