The Rockies finally got the bats to work properly. Ended Lincecum's night after 2.1 innings. Pounded the Giants for 17 runs on 22 hits that included 8 doubles and 3 triples! We were also 13-26 with RISP.

And Chatwood entered the game with an 8 run lead and got the save. Another win for the save rule.

How is that a save?

Here is the rule regarding saves:

Current Rule

A relief pitcher is awarded a save when he meets all three of the following conditions:

•He is the finishing pitcher in a game won by his club; and
•He is not the winning pitcher; and

•He qualifies under one of the following conditions:

•He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning; or
•He enters the game, regardless of the score, with the potential tying run either on base, at bat, or on deck; or
•He pitches for at least three innings. (The word "effectively" has been removed from the MLB rules.)
Under the last condition, the official scorer has some discretion as to whether or not to award a save. This is rule 10.20 of the Major League Rules.

No more than one save may be credited in each game.

Where are all the Red Sox fans? I need someone to commiserate with. My Dad's response to my Sox texts has just been "They SUCK!!!!" Heh.

Watching our teams that don't suck. I've been too busy watching replays of last years cup run getting pumped for game one tomorrow night. Between that, the Celtics looking great right now, what the Sox pulled last year, and baseball just generally being kinda boring, I don't really care what happens to the Red Sox right now.

I am glad Lester has pitched well so far though. Just wish he would have got more run support today.

Happy trails, Wake. I must admit to needing alcohol for many of his starts, but he was always a true professional, and his role in the 2004 WS team will never be forgotten.

I don't like everyone wearing Rivera's number, very confusing.

Ellsbury, ugggghhhhh. FML. Also, starting to get a bit annoyed with Bobby Valentine as I can't understand the point of saying things like this to the media:

BOBBY V: YOUK NOT 'AS INTO GAME' AS IN PAST

I hate the dramatic aspect of baseball so much. On the plus side, Ortiz is mashing and the Red Sox have finally gotten it in gear.

Bobby V was an interesting hire for the Red Sox. He has a knack for inviting attention upon himself - it's one thing to do it when you're managing a team that was stuck in the shadows in NY - but it's a different ballgame with the Red Sox. His act may get old quickly. Winning can always be a cure-all - but that team certainly doesn't need him to be a distraction.

I also think the show he's doing with Michael Kay in NY once a week is a bad idea as well. I get why he's doing it - but there are definitely more cons than pros IMO.

Why are you listening to Michael Kay's radio show. Its bad enough we have to listen to him do Yankee games.

Oh god, Michael Kay is the worst.

Yeah, so far I'm not impressed or amused. Injuries are already wreaking havoc, but I still think it's playoffs or bust for Valentine. I can see him being one and done.

Even I will say that ball was off the plate..... Seeing pics of the other 2 strikes, only one may have been a strike.

Oh and Rodney is an ass..... I can't stand pitchers who do that sort of thing. If someone crushed a HR off one of those type of pitchers, I would have no problem with them showing them up by admiring the HR for a little bit before starting to run. If they don't like it when hitters show them up when they crush one off of them, don't do stupid **** to show the hitters up when they strike them out, etc. Why can't everyone be like Mo? Close the game, and just calmly walk to the catcher to congratulate each other, etc.

Red Sox/Rays: That last AB was total bull - in a one run game with a man on second, really? Larry Vanover really blew it, not one of those pitches was a strike.

Whoever keeps negging my posts really needs to grow up.

I watched the game right before I left for work - and I don't think any of them were strikes. Who knows what would have happened - but they got screwed.

And agreed about Rodney - and all of those other closers who orgasm after a save. We've been spoiled with Mariano (in more ways than one) all of these years.

I have not followed the mlb closely this season so can anyone tell me why the washington nationals are leading the national league right now?
