Patriots are sure having quite the off-season. Who would have thought they'd be able to knock Rex Ryan running with the bulls in Spain off the back pages. :D

Gotta feel bad for the fans who swapped an Hernandez jersey for a Dennard one.
The Patriots who were the NFL darlings have turned into the NY Jets of the league. How much of a leash does Bellicheat get now. Bob Crap can't be happy.

*lights incense over Gronkowski jersey*

Seriously though, how hard is it to not get arrested? I mean, I know NFL players tend to be a stupid group, but geez.

I still say we take the division. With AH drama, Dennard, AND freaking Tim Tebow. :D

Uh, the Jets have more of a reputation for sucking/being frat boys, in my opinion. That's the Bengals/Raiders/wheoever else you're thinking of. And we're not either of those comparisons, thanks.

Dennard is a moron, but his DUI is nothing out of the ordinary for the NFL, the only reason it has warranted such coverage is because of Hernandez, and he was/is a disturbing rarity, thankfully. The DUI types and general idiocy is not Patriots problem, it's a league problem.

The media slathering over this is typical, and expected, as Pats hating is a favored sport, but fans of other teams acting superior is funny to me. The Patriots have done the right things in response to these situations. It is thoroughly impossible to field an NFL roster with zero questionable characters. And since Dennard is a JAG, he'll probably be cut. But if he was a star or something, no team would cut him for a DUI. Anyone who thinks otherwise is living in a glass house.

I love how the Bengals' Mike Brown came out in the media acting superior about how they wouldn't have drafted Hernandez because of his character concerns, saying they were happy with Gresham, and then the next day it comes out that Reggie Nelson was suspected to be one of the players involved in that 2007 shooting cover up along with Hernandez. Instant karma.

The Patriots are just having a bad run of it right now, but it's not a team-specific problem. It's a stupid young rich guys problem (Aaron Hernandez is an entirely different matter).

Bob Crap? Really? That's lame, even for a Patriots hater.

Craft played Connecticut like a fiddle when he promised to bring the team to Hartford, it was bush league plain and simple. He is one of the true weasel owners.

Whatever your opinion of him, I was just saying the insult was lame. And nothing the Patriots or Bob Kraft ever do will be above reproach to some people.

Dennard is an idiot. He's not a murderer. And unfortunately guys like him are on every roster in the NFL. That said, this offseason has sucked majorly for the Patriots and their fans, no doubt about it. Lots of worst case scenarios have played out in full.

I honestly wish the solution was simple enough to boil down to "don't sign guys with question marks" but does anyone actually think that's realistic? I don't know if it is.

How much of the Pats problems fall on the coach being able to write a blank check for what ever player he wants.

And you think Alfonzo Dennard fits into that criticism? A 7th round CB who is highly expendable? Or are you speaking about Aaron Hernandez?
The pats in general for the past 5 years. Are teams looking past issues off the field for on field performance. Bellicheck has been hailed as a smart genius coach.

Yeah, sorry, I don't think the Pats in general for the past 5 years have been a team of criminals and thugs. They've taken chances on some character issue guys that have worked out (Corey Dillon, Aqib Talib [please behave Aqib]), some that haven't for football reasons (Haynesworth), and for the most part have been pretty successful with this approach. It's also not something uniquely Belichick, lots of teams give guys a shot, 2nd/3rd/4th chances, depending on their talent level. It's a reality in the NFL if you want to be successful. If the Patriots hadn't drafted Hernandez, another team absolutely would have.

The Patriots have not had significantly more arrests than any other team, in fact, the stats suggest they are among the lower tier of NFL teams:

Boston Magazine said:
Including the events of last night, the Patriots have now had 15 arrests since 2000, not counting Dennard’s 2012 arrest for assault, which happened before the draft. They have the 10th fewest in a league of 32 teams. Despite two arrests in a span of just over two weeks, Patriots players have done a relatively better job staying out of trouble than the rest of the league. (But then, neither have they been the best behaved team.) The Sports Geeks’ timeline totals 661 arrests (which jumps to 665 if you include players who were arrested as free agents), or an average of nearly 21 arrests per team since 2000.

If you’re curious, the teams with the most arrests since 2000 are:

Minnesota – 40
Cincinnati – 40
Denver – 35
The teams with the fewest arrests since 2000 are:

Houston – 9
St. Louis – 9
Arizona – 11

So again, sorry, you're basing your analysis on the last month and not the last 5 years.

lmao you're so bitter. The Patriots will never be the NY Jets of the league because the Jets haven't won a SUPER BOWL SINCE 1969. You know your team sucks when they haven't won jack **** since before we landed on the moon.

Craft played Connecticut like a fiddle when he promised to bring the team to Hartford, it was bush league plain and simple. He is one of the true weasel owners.

Who the hell is Craft? Seriously, if you're going to whine, at least learn how to spell the people's names you're whining about. Don't blame Kraft because your state leadership dicked around too much and couldn't get plans for a stadium underway. Kraft was just making the best business decision he could make at the time (and it was pretty successful).

Not really, you can't compare the two. One's a cold blooded murderer. The other is a kid who made a mistake a couple of years ago. Who knows about this current DUI thing, but the story seems fishy. Even if he was DUI, who cares? How many other players have been arrested for DUI this year, yet we don't hear about it because the media doesn't hate their team like they hate the Pats? He was the 40th player arrested since January 1st... that's more than one per team, so it's not like every other team in the league is full of angels.

BOSTON (CBS) — Alfonzo Dennard was arrested on Thursday night on suspicion of DUI, and the Patriots cornerback’s refusal to submit to a breathalyzer test led most people to jump to the conclusion that he was guilty of driving while over the legal limit for blood-alcohol level. However, Dennard’s side of the story tells a different tale.

The NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport sent out a series of tweets Friday morning with information from someone who had heard Dennard’s claims about the arrest. According to Rapoport, Dennard twice took a breathalyzer test and the results showed he was below the legal limit, meaning he was not guilty of driving while under the influence. However, the “officer told [Dennard] he hadn’t blown hard enough, thus the did not comply designation.”

Rapoport added that Dennard was not asked to take a blood test but did pass a field sobriety test.

“He took a field sobriety test, was told it did not indicate inebriation,” Rapoport tweeted. “His report says he took [a field sobriety test], not that he failed it.”

Your bitterness is hilarious. Gotta love everyone who tries to tear down the Patriots over off the field crap that happens with every team (Hernandez aside, the dudes a murderer, but it's not like ANYONE could have predicted that)... guess that's what you have to resort to when you can't bash them over their on the field performance.

Best overall record in the league since 2000, 3 super bowl wins, 5 super bowl appearances & conference championships, 6 AFC championship game appearances... the results speak for themselves.

Dude, you really need to stop being such a homer.

boo hoo.

You don't see me on here jumping on the other 38 players who have been arrested this year. It's pretty telling when a Patriots player being arrested for possibly DUI gets more discussion on here from the NY fans then Josh Brent on the Cowboys who killed his teammate. I didn't see anyone even mention the Giants LB who was arrested last week for trying to carry a weapon onto an airplane. Or the Jets RB who was arrested in May on handgun charges. More Jets players have been arrested this offseason than Pats players, but I don't see anyone talking about that.

Like I said, it's pretty telling when the media and other fanbases have to bash the Patriots over off-the-field stuff that has happened with every team in the past few years. I guess that's what you have to resort to when you can't bash the on-the-field product because they've had better results than everyone over the last decade.

For what it's worth, MacNut is a Giants fan, so he's probably the only one in this thread who has nothing to be bitter about regarding the Patriots. :D

And frankly, the "backlash" has come because the Patriots and their fans have acted as if their sh** didn't stink for years. Like stuff that happens to other teams and oher locker rooms would never happen with Billy B. Is it fair? Probably not, but when you live by the sword you die by the sword.

Just my two cents of course. But, as a fan, I can understand why you're getting so defensive.....Maybe you'll think twice the next time you try to make a dig at the Jets. ;) No team, player, or coach is perfect.

Aren't you the same kid that runs way when the Red Sox are on a losing streak. Talk about fickle fan. Take your medicine, the PAts are going to be horrible this year. And they are now just like all the rest in the NFL, a bunch of criminals. They haven't won a Super Bowl in 6 years. The joy ride is over.

I don't like baseball, it's ****ing boring. I watched it for a few years back in college b/c it was always on in the dorms, but I haven't really watched in a few years. It's like watching paint dry. I like sports that actually have action, mostly hockey and football for the "big" sports.

I'll remind you of this post when the Pats win the division again. I know you hope they're going to be bad this year but you'll be sorely disappointed. But yeah, the team that played in the Super Bowl two years ago and was a dropped Wes Welker catch from possibly returning to it last year's joyride is definitely over. :D One player (Hernandez) does not make a team. Hernandez missed 6 games last year and the Pats were 5-1 in those 6.

Look for the Pats this year to employ a style more like the football they played back in 01-06, defense-first, run the football, and more play action, short passing routes, and screens. They won't be going 16-0 but somewhere around 11-5 is plausible and that would probably win the division.

Well to be fair. I have yet to see any other player recently, charged with luring someone out and execute them.

I mean really. Possession of a hand gun is so on par with killing someone via a gun execution style. Give me break will yeah.

Doesn't matter what team it is. If this occurs doesn't matter what team. Maybe you forgot the Ray Lewis media blitz. Lets me guess he was playing for the pats at the time right?!

Get off your pats horse. Good lord.

I was talking about Dennard, not Hernandez. I was more addressing the ridiculous comments such as:

How much of the Pats problems fall on the coach being able to write blank check for what ever player he wants.

Like the insinuation that the coach being in charge of personnel decisions has any connection whatsoever with a cornerback being a dumbass and not using his NFLPA safe ride hotline during the offseason. Seriously? That's some of the most ridiculous **** I've ever read on this board. Call me a homer, but statements like that are just ridiculous.

Or this:
The pats in general for the past 5 years. Are teams looking past issues off the field for on field performance. Bellicheck has been hailed as a smart genius coach.

"The Pats in general the last 5 years?" What's that even supposed to mean? The Pats in general the last 5 years have been one of the top teams in the league, have a super bowl appearance, and 2 championship game appearances. That's better than most teams can claim.

Obviously the Hernandez case is different than anything else recently. Its more on par with Rae Carruth than Ray Lewis anyways. But anyone who tries to insinuate that the Pats should have had a crystal ball and known Hernandez was going become a murderer three years before he did it based on him failing a drug test for pot in college is delusional. That would be like me trying to claim the Steelers never should have drafted Roethlisberger because they should have known he was going to be accused of sexual assault 5 years later... it's just a ludicrous suggestion.

Every single team would have given the kid an opportunity based on the great athletic talents he has.. they may not have taken him in the 4th round, but there's no way he wouldn't have gotten an opportunity with a team at some point. At least they didn't waste time to cut ties with him as soon as they found out he was involved at all, and even before they knew he was going to be charged with murder. What else do people expect?

I must say, I am really enjoying your homering. For a guy who talks more trash in these threads than anyone else, you sure do have a thin pigskin.

Glad I could entertain you. At least most of my trash talking (tebow aside, I can't stand that dude) is related to what actually happens on the field (lol butt fumble) and not what a player does on his own on his personal time in the offseason.

I think it's more funny than anything else. Glad to see even after all the drama this offseason people still have to measure their team against the Pats. ;) :p

And feel free to trash talk us all you want about the Pats having tebow.. I'll probably join you.

I would agree with you if that were the case, but he seems to be the most bitter of the group for reasons unknown to me. See - well, every single one of his posts lately.

Without being too much of a homer, I don't see how anyone can argue that people just love trying to knock the Pats down even when it's not warranted. I get it, but it does get a bit old, especially when you try to be fair with fans of other teams.

Blame the media for assigning morality to sports franchises, not fans. It's dumb. The "Patriots Way" is a media creation. In reality, it meant that NE players are expected to shut up, work hard, and do their jobs. On the field. That's all. And Hernandez is an aberration and we all know it. Fine, if you must snicker and point at the Pats' unfortunate luck in this situation, but if not the Pats it would have been another team. And their response was the right one. So I'm not sure what else people expect.

With all do respect what have I said about the Patriots that others have not said about the Cowboys or Jets, or the Bills 4 years in a row after choking in the Superbowl. The Patriots have become a target for the way they play and used to win. People are dicks to me all the time about the Yankees and it doesn't bother me.

I guess it just depends on if you want to actually have a discussion about NFL football, or if we just want to fling sand in each other's faces all day. A little trash talk is fine, but it been really petty and lame lately. If the Patriots are such a has-been franchise, then why are you so concerned with them?

Comparing us to Yankees fans tends to suggest you don't think the Patriots are quite as dead as you pretend to believe. And you had no response to me refuting your claims about the "last 5 years," btw.

Some could argue that the Yankees are dead, maybe even me. Are the Pats a has-been franchise, no, the Dolphins yes. My problem is the media hyping the Pats as winners when they haven't won anything in 5 years but ESPN would have you believe they are the champions. Plus I think Bellicheck is a pompous ass.:p

To be fair, I also don't like the media hype over the Jets who haven't won anything since Joe Naimith.
