Had a great time in Dallas this weekend, capped off by a great game (My buddies who are all Giants fans weren't too happy with the result). But overall a wonderful trip... we even got the chance to get on the field and go in to the Cowboys locker room. Jerry's world is quite the place, he went really over the top with everything.

Sweet! I'm very envious!

Not even, the Jets are usually tough for the Patriots, Butt Fumble game excepted. I know people rag on the parity in the AFC East, but those games are never a cake walk, whatever the records may be.

At least the Patriots are in good company - many of the better teams looked pretty shaky in Week 1.

ALL divisional games are tough.

This guy is not very smart:

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- If Roger Goodell has grown weary of Von Miller's repeated legal trouble, the NFL commissioner has the authority to add to the Denver Broncos linebacker's current six-game suspension.

Miller is one game into his suspension for violating the league's substance-abuse policy, and Wednesday team officials were privately wrestling with the revelation that Miller was cited last week for driving without a license and speeding.

Von is just doing some incredibly stupid things. I wouldn't be surprised to see a couple of games added to his suspension.

I hope not. Goodell needs to realize he's not the police department. Suspend players for on the field incidents & doping all you want, but let the legal system deal with stuff that happens outside of football.

With all the friendly New England debate that transpires in this thread I just thought I would share a pic of how some Buffalo fans welcomed the Pats last week.

This truly made me laugh out loud. :D

Ugly, ugly win. But I'll take it, since that was as bare as I've ever seen the Patriots' cupboards. Where fore art thou, Gronk?

I'm sure they'll get it together when Gronk and Amendola come back. If they can stay on the field. The Patriots really got lucky starting the season off against 2 rookie QB's, though. Especially in their own division.

They could easily be 0-2 and they sure do look beatable right now. But, as much as I want it to last, they always seem to find a way to finish up with 13 or 14 wins. They lost a few bad ones early last year, didn't they (one against the Cardinals IIRC)? And yet, they still found a way to be one of the top seeds.

As for the Jets, I think Geno looked good early. There were a few plays where he held on to the ball, but that's definitely something that can be fixed with experience. And as with Mark Sanchez last year, he was absolutely killed by his receivers dropping pass after pass. As we saw with Brady, it doesn't matter how good the QB is, if your receivers suck it's really hard to score points.

That said, those 2 interceptions he threw late in the game (one deep in Pats territory) were painful. One of the knocks against Sanchez was his decision making, and those two Geno passes were Sanchezesque. Hopefully, he learns from his mistakes. I think his upside is better than Sanchez', but we'll see. It's the Jets, so I assume it's going to end badly. :D

Right, the name of the game is hanging on until they get some healthy offensive players back. They've lost practically all their offensive weapons from last year, I knew it would be rough going in the beginning - and that was with Amendola. The rookies looked very...rookie tonight. Again. But I'm not ready to give up on the kids just yet, and the defense will be better than last year. Naturally getting Gronk, Amendola, and eventually Vereen back will be important. It's basically a race to 10 wins in the AFCE, in my opinion. From there, who knows.

I thought Geno looked okay, especially for a rookie. His receivers did him no favors, similar to Brady's tonight. I expected much worse, honestly. Forced a couple of bad decisions late, which he'll need to knock off asap. Otherwise not horrible, for sure.

the AFC looks SO weak. I don't see much stopping the Broncos from running the table

You whined about this last year, too, and the AFC won the Super Bowl. The NFC powers from last year didn't exactly look dominant last weekend - Seahawks, Falcons, Packers all looked beatable. The 49ers look very strong again, but we'll see.

There's no Super Bowl in week 1 or 2, thankfully.

I expect Sanchez-like performances from a rookie QB. What I don't get is why he didn't run more. There were at least 6 plays where he scrambled, had a lot of open field and could have ran (he was successful doing that week 1) but he made bad decisions instead. Sigh.

Another frustrating game for Jets fans... So many opportunities to steal this game squandered. I want to say the defense looks good but I'm not really sure about that since the Patriots receiving corps were defending themselves.

At least you patriots fans now know how it feels to have bad players at the skill positions, this is what we have been dealing with for the last couple of years... it doesn't matter if your QB is Sanchez, Brady, manning whoever... when your receivers are that terrible you just cant score points.

All that being said great teams and great coaches find ways to win ugly games and that's the difference.... so as much as I dislike the Patriots I have to respect their winning ways.

Geno shows flashes of possibly being a great QB in this league, and the offensive play calling is way way better than the last couple of years (I had almost forgotten what throwing the ball downfield looked like) But then there are other times where Geno looks very Sanchez-esque.... Throwing that interception while in field goal range was killer..... I'm hoping it's just his rookie-ness because at times he looks like he makes great decisions.

Agreed. The receivers for both teams (with the exception of Edelman) really didn't do much to help their QBs. I wonder if Smith was worried about getting hurt if he ran the ball.

I think this year could really be tough for the Pats. Obviously the return of Gronk and Amendola will be a big help, but the question in my mind is can the rookie players step up their game? When Gronk and Danny return opposing defenses are clearly going to key in on taking them out of the game and forcing the other WR's to make plays. This season is really going to show us what kind of offensive mind the "grey hoodie" really has. I'm looking forward to seeing how it all plays out.

I think they'll be fine. Don't expect them to be a world beating offense like the Moss/Welker days, but they can still be a solid, top 15 offense in the league.

Edelman was a beast last night. Dude was all over the field. Between him and signing Amendola, you can see why they didn't want to overspend for Welker. Amendola was pretty solid last week against Buffalo too, even though he was battling that groin injury. Getting Gronk back, and to a lesser extent Vereen, will be huge.

Give the rookies some time. It's only been a week and a half since they really started practicing as a unit after cutting down from training camp. The Pats run a fairly complex offensive system so it takes a while to pick up (hell, some guys, like Ochocinco, could never figure it out).

Dobson had a case of the drops last night, but I think he'll be alright. He didn't drop a single pass his entire senior season of college last year so I'd chalk that up to first NFL game jitters & the pouring rain and hope he can settle down in the next few games. Not really sure about Thompkins, I haven't seen enough of him yet. There will be some growing pains as there are with all rookies but they're both talented guys.

No kidding. Brady's completion percentage was bad, and while he did have a few over throws, there were a ton of passes right on the hands that the guys dropped.

We know what it's like. Yeah, we had Welker, and a few years ago Moss, but I won't quickly forget the two years between the 04 Superbowl win and bringing in Moss/Welker in 07. Those 05 and 06 season we had guys like Reche Caldwell, Jabar Gaffney, etc. ****, if Caldwell could catch, he would have caught that pass in the end zone late in the 06 AFC CG against Colts, the Pats would have been in that Superbowl against the Bears instead, and Peyton Manning would still be championshipless.

Homer! Why can't you just admit they sucked last night. There were no silver linings?

They did suck last night. I never said they didn't. They sucked against the Bills to.

But when they get 3 of their top 4 offensive skill guys back who were out last night, and the rookies get some more experience with the system, they'll be decent.

There totally were, though. It was more experience for some very green receivers, the defense has improved, and they gutted out a win with a very challenging offense. It's going to take some time.

I think some Pats fans are totally spoiled, it's not always going to be an aerial show, especially when your top 4 targets from last year aren't on the field. It's only week 2, but yeah, there were some silver linings there. If anything, the biggest being 2-0. I don't think anyone is arguing that the offense didn't suck last night.

As for the Jets, there are also silver linings. Geno wasn't bad, I agree he could have run a bit more. And the defense has held Doug Martin and Stevan Ridley in check the last two weeks. Definitely things to build on.

They're missing too many pieces, to be as dominating like they were. I don't have high expectations for them this year.
It all hinges on how good or bad Miami is this year. The Pats need to worry that the Fish are not horrible.

They are missing a whole lot of pieces right now. But lately the Superbowl winner has been the team that's gotten their act together and been strong over the last three to four games of the season. Sometimes it's later than that.

As long as a team doesn't ruin its playoff chances in the first ten weeks, the first three months of the season is nearly irrelevant.

I can't tell anything about the Pats from the first two games other than they are lucky not to be 0-2.
