I do hope that Manning and company get this done!
Why do you not hear the reverse, from either hacks like me or professional football analysts? I think because plenty of great offenses in the Super Bowl were taken out by good defenses or even merely OK defenses. Just OK offenses rarely fare well against a good defense or any defense. If your offense is to beat a top offense, it has to be so good it's better than virtually any offense that has ever existed. That being said, it could be you guys but we will see very soon. Defense usually wins football games and that will be a staple of this sport just like "people get hurt and get oww-ies" in football and sometimes miss games. It's unavoidable. There's little to suggest that anything will change much from what has always been.
Manning has an uphill battle but if he wins with Denver then:
1) Broncos and Manning's 2013-14 offense could be seen as best ever having taken out the NFL's #1 defense in Seattle.
2) This would make Manning a multiple SB winner and the only QB to be on different winning teams.
3) A strong argument could be said Manning is the best ever, or at least the best of his generation, since en route to having the best offensive season ever, he won the key AFC championship head to head with Brady and the Patriots (the other best offense in football headed by the other best QB of his generation).
What I would like to see is either a rout of Seattle since I don't like Sherman's attitude, or a last second pass over Sherman's head to make this a one point winner. The former outcome in a severe rout, and against a defensive powerhouse like Seattle, would pretty much leave no doubt as to who the best offense and best QB of all time is. A loss against Seattle will keep alive the contest between Brady and Manning as they would have both suffered multiple SB losses and have both guys scrambling for that elusive last SB win to ride off into the sunset with.
The more I think about it, Elway's ending in his last two years to an already stellar NFL career before his SB wins was about as good an exit from any sport that I can think of. Manning could almost match that Elway final win feeling if he wins on Sunday and then announces his retirement. He would put up the SB wins, overall wins, TDs, yards, and other stuff in order to be called the best, but he would also leave on top with a "what if" scenario as to if he could have gone on longer and took one or two more titles.
When Elway left football as a winner and not completely in decline like Montana, Favre, or Marino, part of me thought because he left with those two SB wins, that he could have even gone on for one more championship. It's best to win, preferably two or more titles, and then retire while you are on top and your numbers are still good.
Anyway, I agree with this greatest ever article:
