Well that didn't take long NEC sack trainer after only three matches, this season.

Alex Pastoor had been at NEC since 2011 after a very sucsessful start both NEC and he began to lose their way, the last 14 matches without a win.

Hertha lost the lead but I can't say I'm unhappy though since the draw was both: very lucky and really misfortunate. As for the more important things: they played super solid and bossed the whole second half. Away. So they still made my day. That's not the Grande Dame I grew up with :)

@takao: agreed about Bremen, although I'm happy for them. Better to get underservedly 6points instead of losing in pure beauty given their general situation. They have to develop some sort of solid creativity rather soon, though.

Columbus 2 - 0 Toronto. Two wins in a row for the Crew. I still think the seaosn is a waste, but Frederico Higuain is going through a hot patch of form. Check out this very cheeky chip on Toronto's keeper. Lovely.

I wonder why Japanese electronics giant NEC have never considered doing a shirt sponsor deal with NEC Nijmegen...seems like a match made in heaven.

I do think that even if looks good on paper, it is of course a complete non starter, as NEC would want positive news stories on an international stage from NEC.

The only time that NEC hit the international press was back in 1983, when on the 19 October they played FC Barcelona in the then ECII. They were only in this cup because as losing finalist, they got automatic entry because the winner Ajax was Eredivisie Champions, and came out in EC1.
The had played so badly that year, that they had been demoted to the Jupiler league of the day.

Funnily enough on a very bad pitch, and in winter like conditions they gave Barcelona a small fright losing 2 - 3.

Two weeks later they were crushed in Barcelona.:D

On the eve on the Champions League matches on a football program here one of the commentators made an interesting point.

The dilemma of modern Dutch football, you as supporter want your team to do well in the competition. But you know, that if they do, and that if certain players standout, they will be bought up by larger clubs in Europe. There is no club in the Netherlands who can compete with buying powers of the major leagues around Europe.:(

Seems like Bale moves further south officially...78m + Coentrao. Good deal for Spurs I reckon, although I heaviyl question Coentrao's defending skills. Seems they also snatched up Willian from Anzhi. Solid top 4 contender this year. The league will be much more interesting than last year me thinks.

Latest Spurs ITK (in the know) has said that the Willian deal is progressing and that we are the favorites :)

Where'd you hear that about Bale? ITKs have said its gone quiet. But as always, a pinch of salt is necessary when it comes to any info.

Not sure about the details, but read a whole lotta serious comments about it. And I wasn't even searching for it. But given the recent Spurs spendings, on can be assured that he'll leave, no? Think that's the best outcome for every party, tbh.

Seems like you've beat Pool over Willian. Oh Lord, I really need that Sky channel this year :D

He'll either leave this summer or next summer. Unless something bad happens there will still be a large fee. But you also have to remember the new TV money. A lot of the clubs have spent this summer. And there are rumors that Spurs's owner loaned the club £50 million.

Liverpool are struggling to bring in proven top talent. If the club is to claw its way back to CL contention they will have to rely on savvy purchases like Coutinho and keeping their best players like Suarez until they can be properly replaced.

Spurs finally look close to joining the big boys. But the season is still very young. That is an eye-wtering fee for Bale, if true.

Oh, I'm not so sure....Volkswagen sponsored DC United for years in MLS, and they were terrible...Of course, I don't know what kind of presence NEC (the Japanese company) has in the Netherlands.

Seems like it. But Mignolet, Sturridge and Couthino (love him) were some very savvy purchases. Hope Toure fits in there as well. That said, I guess Tottenham got dealt some better cards (w Bale sale) compared to Liverpool and its Suarez-saga (tbc). I did watch the last Pool game, and, although not flawless, liked what I saw. :)

Alabama is overrated.

Accrington's Josh Windass agrees.

Yeah, Liverpool have a pretty good squad. But given what it takes to be in the Champions League these days, the club is still some distance away from where the expectations lie. Liverpool are in the Premier League's competitive 'doughnut hole' - no danger of relegation, but not good enough to challenge for the Champions League or a Premier League championship. Mediocre. I suppose a League Cup or FA Cup win is a reasonable goal.

I think another thing the club should be aiming at this season is getting better results against the clubs above them in the table. Last season Liverpool almost entirely failed to get anything off the top 5 clubs.

Last night a very young and inexperienced PSV played AC Milan in a CL match. Contrary to all expectations PSV stood their ground well, and but for some bad finishing could have won the match. The average age of PSV last night was 20 years and 5 months.

This of course in no way disguises the weakness of current of Dutch football, but considering the predictions that PSV would be swept from the field, all I can say is well done to the team.

what i really find hilarious is how bremen has now already managed to win both games 1:0 while playing absolute rubbish ...

is it karma for all the fantastic games of the past which they lost ?

also the impression from the first hoffenheim game is carrying over: they really upped their game after being close to relegation. Going back to their offensive attacking style is suiting their squad way better.
Well, when I thin about it, there have been many "special" outcomes for the first matches, so far. Braunschweig-Dortmund (1:2) should be among them. Then there is Greuther Fürth on the first place(s) of second league, after their trouble in first league last season (though, telling from Fürth's match against Kaiserslautern, I think Braunschweig might be a bit more competitive than Fürth regarding first league future. Well, we will see.)

Wow, Chelsea had some serious luck generosity with the ref tonight.

Are you allowed to go for two after scoring a goal?

Yeah, I think a pint or two is allowed; it was in the '70s.

Looking good for Chelsea; Martin Atkinson on Monday - decent chance he'll continue Friend's work. How much is he in Fantasy Football?

Edit - Jaffa Cake; 'Arsenal clearly paying tribute to York City with their kit tonight.' - wise move, blood is a devil to get out of white shorts; still, it was practice for Stoke City.

Cheers,
OW

My Spanish friend always hates me for mocking her with Spanish mentality. But jeez, that cup game is even too late for me to watch...

Chelsea cheated, got away with it -and then Mou had a nasty little patronizing dig at Paul Lambert in his post-match press conference.

It's like Chealsea 2004 all over again. :)

Bah, that Ivanovic. Makes me so mad I just want to bite him.
