I have seen nothing at all linking Tanaka with the Giants, and you do neglect the fact that the Giants signed Tim Hudson this offseason. I assume Yusmeiro Petit will be back as well, competing with Vogelsong for that #5 spot.

The Michael Morse signing is a nice calculated risk. Can't expect him to post a .910 OPS like he did in 2011, but getting some pop out of left field will be welcomed.

There was a lot of hot air on the local Bay Area radio stations and it was a lot of wishful thinking since we can't afford him. I think the Yankees will probably land a deal.

Maddux, Glavine, and Frank Thomas make the Hall. Craig Biggio doesn't. And once again Piazza and Bagwell are hurt by the PED assumptions. Stupidly, in my opinion.

I'm shocked about Craig Biggio. And disappointed. I'm probably not completely objective because I'm a fellow Seton Hall Alum, but he certainly has the numbers to get in.

Also, what does everyone think about Frank Thomas? And full time DH's making the hall in general? Maybe I'm old school, but I'm not sold on the fact that they deserve to be there. Not playing the field for a long amount of time allows players continue their careers and rack up numbers. And if you're not good enough to be playing the field, are you really good enough to be in the Hall?

The baseball hall of fame is really one of the biggest shams, when you look at those who are and aren't in. You have to wonder what the writers are thinking.

And why no suspicion on Thomas and PED use?

I was surprised to see Thomas make the cut while others did not

What makes Biggio a hall of famer, the only number that stands out is 3,000 hits. Besides that his numbers are not good enough.

FRANK THOMAS!

Look at his numbers again.

And why no suspicion on Thomas and PED use?

1) He and the White Sox tried to throw their drug tests (not taking them, which counts as a failure) so baseball would increase their drug testing.
2) He was the only baseball player to contribute to the Mitchell Report
3) He was regularly tested for steroids during his time as a football player at Auburn, and he remained that same size throughout his baseball career.

I just looked quickly at his career numbers. 15th overall in runs scored (all-time), 21st in hits, 5th in doubles, 33rd in total bases. Silver slugger at 2 positions - and played 3 at a high level (center field later in his career).

I'll have to do some research to compare him to 2nd Basemen who are already in the Hall.

I'm still not sold on DH's making the Hall.

Craig Biggio's career numbers versus Roberto Alomar:

Craig Biggio's numbers are first.

Avg. Hits Runs doubles triples HR RBI BB SB OPS OBP
.281 3060 1844 668 55 291 1175 1160 414 .796 .363
.300 2724 1508 504 80 210 1134 1032 474 .814 .371

Sure his numbers are worthy, but was he clean? We don't know, we also don't know about Clemens, Bonds, or McQuire. So why is Thomas in?

Google it. There is no evidence that Frank Thomas juiced. In fact, he was a major activist towards increasing drug testing in the MLB. Maybe you don't remember the Mitchell Report. Frank Thomas was the ONLY MLB player to contribute to it. You bring out the evidence, and I would be with you. His numbers are as close to clean as Glavine's or Maddux's (and yes, pitchers doped a LOT in the steroid era).

There are no clean numbers in baseball. And I don't think there ever will be.

By that logic, there has never been a clean number in baseball so there should be no Hall of Fame.
Half of the players in the hall should not be there to begin with. The process has become so diluted that it has turned into a joke.

No not really, it should be there are no clean numbers in baseball, which means why are we holding out on a few who never tested dirty, shouldn't they be in the HOF!

I think we started to see PED's as far back as the 70's early 80's personally.

Everyone's numbers are dirty. We don't know what people were doing prior to the steroid era, so they must be dirty numbers. No one should be in.
Players in the 60s admitted to using something to gain an edge. We either throw out the drug testing and go by the numbers alone or we let nobody in.
