On this evidence, PSV are a lot better than Liverpool.

Man City are so bad in Europe. It's quite amazing. To be fair, Juventus made it to the final last season. PSV, on the other hand, have no chance of winning the CL.

To be fair you also have consider the players which left Juve: Pirlo, Vidal, Tevez
That's quite a lot of quality

Hilarious coincidence: a friend at work yesterday played the game in advance on his ps3: he went down 0:1 only to turn it around in the second half with morata scoring the deciding goal

How long will the mental side take? Are Valencia and Ramsey back yet? Wilshere must wonder if it is safe to get out of bed.

On the Game:

Arsenal in disguise; possession, 2 moments of bad defending punished, and incapable of shooting - tack the ball through the penalty area to the goal line, wait for the keeper to join the rest of the players, take a shoe circle photo, then shuffle the ball over the line. Martial's understanding with Memphis a high.

Cheers,
OW

Pirlo is having a terrible season in MLS, but that's probably more a question of attitude than ability. Still, I have to assume Juve is still tough opponent - tougher anyway than PSV.

EDIT: Liverpool are sending a scratch team against Bordeaux. Either Bordeaux are really that bad or Rogers doesn't care about the Europa league. Of course at this point, having Toure and Sakho at the back can't possibly be worse than Skrtel and Lovren.

EDIT2: Chelsea smash no-hopers Maccabi Tel Aviv, and oh dear Arsenal. We really didn't learn much from these fixtures...the Giroud sending off was embarrassing for the Frenchman - quire preventable and very stupid.

That Florenzi goal for Roma against Barca was astounding!

Ox developing a knack for costing us in Europe. Arteta should not be anywhere near the first 11 in the EPL and Europe. Debuchy...hmmm....

Hopefully we can turn them over at the Emirates...hopefully. We don't even have a striker now in Europe.

*sigh*

shared this with @Fizzoid and now with you lot. my old roomie from back in the day is a Spurs fan and a bit of a globetrotter. he is in the UK for the week and this is his itinerary, and yes, he does pick up a scarf for me every now and then - QPR being the latest:

QPR is in west london - as is chelsea - and i had pre-ordered a cheap ticket for QPR v Blackburn Rovers. when i found out i could go to the champions league for 17 quid, i went out to Loftus Road, picked up my QPR ticket, went into the Springbok (a pub by the stadium), told some folks i couldn't make the match and offered one my ticket for a pint (he bought me two), then went to Chelsea.

i simply stopped into the club shop at Loftus Road whilst there and got a scarf. i took a small hit on the QPR ticket, but at least it got used and was offset by the pints.

and yes, chelsea do suck. i guess it's nice to have ticked the box of Stamford Bridge, but it sucked. nothing but tourists taking photos of themselves and a bunch of yobs. the star power at chelsea is nice - seeing the likes of costa, hazard, etc. - but most of the time i was wishing i was at QPR. apparently jordan rhodes scored a cracker for Rovers, too.

didn't see any post-match interviews. i'm presuming he was a ****.

and yeah, palace on sunday. here's the footy itinerary:

Monday: West Ham 2-0 Newcastle
Tuesday: Charlton 1-2 Huddersfield
Wednesday: Chelsea 4-0 Maccabi Tel Aviv
Thursday: Spurs 3-1 Qarabag
Friday: Grimsby Town v Tranmere Rovers
Saturday: Wednesday v Fulham
Sunday : Spurs v Palace

he is also a bit of a closet Wednesday fan and gotten to know quite a few via me via online. i thought @Fizzoid was one of them but i guess not.

It seems very difficult for fans to effectively boycott clubs being run into the ground by bad owners, but when it comes to racism people seem to get really motivated:

Lech Poznan supporters carried out their threat to boycott Thursday night’s Europa League match against Belenenses in protest at Uefa’s decision to donate €1 from each ticket sold to the cause of refugees.

The game, which finished goalless, was played in front of a sparse crowd of around 3,000 at the Inea Stadium, where the club’s average attendance last season was 20,054. A banner reading “Stop Islamization” was hung at one of the entrances.

The boycott had been planned several days in advance, and was announced by one of the team’s ultras societies last week. A flag at a previous home game had read “This is obvious and simple for us, we do not want refugees in Poland”.

In fairness, quite a few other fan groups around (mostly Western) Europe have shown solidarity and support for the refugees. But it's sickening (and, frankly, silly) to see people boycott a football match simply in order to show their hatred for another group of people. It shows how small their minds and their world views actually are.

In other news, Liverpool still can't defend. On the surface an away draw in Europe is a decent result, but the performance still shows little to get excited about.

Lots of praise for a Chelsea who are now said to be "back on track." Possibly, but let's look at the evidence: They beat an Israeli team of no real consequence midweek, and then Arsenal self-destructed at Stamford Bridge in a game where Diego Costa once again should have been sent off but wasn't. Despite the red cards for Arsenal Chelsea didn't exactly batter them either.

Costa is the dirtiest player in England by a mile.

Dean swung the game in Chelsea's favour.

A bit too trigger happy. I don't understand how he sends Gabriel off with a straight red but leaves Costa on the pitch. Mind boggling really. Gabriel fell for the trap but ref did Arsenal zero favours. I slightly empathise with Wenger...went bad for his team today after initial promise.

Game started well but became pretty ugly and banal in the end.

Also convinced me that Chelsea won't win the title.

Think i might actually dislike Diego Costa the most in the entire division or even country. The guy has talent so you'd think he'd focus on playing football but no, everything is a fight. Its highly irritating.

Drogba played with pace, power and skill but was never dirty.

This one's just a petulant, belligerent overpaid knob.

Praise from where?!?

Today's game told us nothing. Both teams are a little out of sorts, and Gabriel's sending off screwed the dynamics of the match. Ignoring the result and the suspensions, Arsenal actually looked encouragingly resilient. I thought they looked the more likely to score the second goal until Santi's dismissal.

Ah well. There's always the FA Cup.

Drogba was a diving cheater, but not really dirty. Costa would rather slyly kick someone someone and get them sent off for their reaction than try and score a proper goal. He's an awful human being. Defecting to the Spain squad is evidence of a lack of character as well - always looking for the easy way out.

I agree about Chelsea not winning the title as well. This was a good enough result for them, but the performance was not convincing. They still look capable of dropping a lot of points this season. They took their foot off the gas when Arsenal went down a man; in years past they would have more ruthlessly exploited that advantage.

Arsenal didn't play badly at all, but displayed the frailties for which they are famous and really were never going anywhere once that first red came out.

EDIT: It should also be pointed out that losing Coquelin to injury was a big blow for Arsenal. Had the game finished with 22 men on the field I'm not sure Chelsea would have won it.

i hate him. that was utter ******** today.

Heh, I read that too. Looking forward to seeing Match of the Day. And in other news, it's another magical away day for the 'appy 'ammers.

Good on Bilic, taking some huge scalps and playing to his strengths. Sterling and De Bruyne show why they aren't worth their price tags and how much Silva is pivotal to City's game.

On another note, credit to Leicester who simply don't know when they're beaten.

Sunderland meanwhile look set for another repeat relegation battle. Early days but they look void of creativity and goals, plus a swiss cheese defensive makeup.
