Wow. Stoke beating Chelsea is hardly shocking but Sheffield Wednesday on the other hand...

Guess it will remind the United management tomorrow to take these games seriously, since Middlesborough is one of the best teams in the Championship.

Congrats Fizzoid & Pachyderm on a well-deserved win!!

But what on earth happened with Walcott? Is it a freak injury or gross negligence, failing to allow him to warm up properly?

I want to laugh at Chelsea but they are now like a dangerous, wounded animal - they desperately need a result and Liverpool, with their frail defense, are just the ticket. A perfect opportunity to send the league's dirtiest player out to go wreak havoc. Not looking forward to this weekend's match at all. If ever there was a moment we needed Klopp to sprinkle some fairy dust on the boys in red, it will be against Chelsea.

...but it does give us an excuse to mention rainy Tuesday nights in Stoke.

EDIT: Jaffa Cake's Hull City are also through to the quarterfinals for the first time in their history.

Seems Wednesday are heading to the next round at Arsenal's expense.

Meanwhile Costa, Walcott, Oxalade all injured and out

Pretty much the same as the Ox, they just broke!

Watched the game with an Arsenal supporting buddy of mine in a pub in London with the London Owls and it was a great atmosphere (well, for most of us ;) ). He couldn't believe Arsenal only managed 2 shots on target all night, considering they put out a reasonable side

Ox ran over to someone on the bench and was having a word with him, a few minutes later he was done. Walcott comes on, and I didn't see what happened but as the camera panned over to him he was sat down, and that was him done as well.

I don't think he got much of a warm up before he went on, but he was hardly in the thick of things during the little time he played, didn't see him over stretch or anything.

It's actually quite a shame for Arsenal loosing those 2 as I'd actually like to see them win the league this season

Still, it was a deserved win, even Mr Wenger agreed :)

My newspaper tells me that this is the first time that Arsenal have lost five matches before November since 1999, which is an incredible statistic when you factor in the Champions League. And there's still time to make it six at the Vetch Nou on Saturday...

DC were absolutely abysmal against Columbus, New England are struggling a bit but I would still consider them favorites to win at RFK tomorrow.

Nice scrappy game. I had fun watching it despite the result not going my way in the end.

We got Geigered, and Jermaine Jones pulled a Clint Dempsey and attacked the ref in stoppage.

I think that might be the last we see of him in a Revs jersey.

Hard luck to NE...I'm surprised DC had that much fight in them after their abject surrender in Columbus, but I guess they had something to prove. At least it was a tight match. Crazy outburst by Jones, though I bet most players have always wanted to to that to Geiger...

Liverpool...It's hard to read too much into these cup matches when the manager sends out a 'B' or 'C' team that hasn't played as a unit. Allen looked pretty shaky, Toure got hurt, Firmino, Teixeira, Randall, Brannagan all had some good moments.

Bournemouth played more like a team than Liverpool, but Liverpool ended up winning with a good goal. The clean sheet is probably more down to Bournemouth not taking a couple good chances, but Liverpool have been somewhat less leaky of late.

Some poor penalties from Man Utd...Rooney has no business missing that stuff given his experience. On the other hand, getting knocked out now just increases Man Utd's chance of finishing in the top 4 again and going farther in the CL. Do any top 4 managers really care about the cups? Nah. At least, not till the semis.

Chelsea are just a big flaming car crash right now, and I'm enjoying every minute of it.

Knocked out in a penalty shootout... Performance was just not good enough. Still very much behind LVG though, hopefully we can bounce back at Palace.

The planets aligned against them.:) Just one of those games; 45 minutes trying to become a team v stubborn, well drilled opposition, they missed too many chances when they did get going, and clear penalties weren't given. They are rubbish at shoot-outs, so that was a done deal. The worry is Memphis; his current play appears forced rather than natural and he needs to wake up - seems he is waiting until he gets the ball then looking where to pass it, rather than knowing before he has the ball.

Cheers,
OW

Looks like Mou will be on the touchline this weekend for the match against Liverpool, as his latest charge from the FA won't be settled till next week.

Liverpool leak their obligatory goal - and then go on to score three. Liverpool played well, but Chelsea are an absolute shambles.

It's something of a miracle (or a travesty) that this match finished 11 v 11. Lucas probably earned two yellows, while Costa should have been sent off for a sly little kick out at Skrtel (another retroactive punishment perhaps?) Can made a few rough tackles that could have earned him a yellow card or two.

This is payback/Karma for Mou. Refs have no time for him or his team. I would't be surprised if they don't win another penalty the rest of the season.

Surely his position is untenable now?

I don't want the guy to be sacked, because frankly, its been entertaining. But if i was Roman i'd be running out of patience and options. From Champions to 5pts off drop zone.

Only a few games in they said, things will turn around. Now its 11pts in 11 games.

And to add salt to wound the performances have been consistently awful considering the personnel.

Then again who would want the job considering it will be an interim one till Guardiola is ready.

Chelsea have a squad that, on paper, is capable of winning the league. They have endless financial resources. They have arguably the most successful manager in the world at the moment...but a manager who never lasts more then three years anywhere because he psychologically destroys his teams by that point.

In terms of talent, experience and athleticism Chelsea are as good a squad as they've ever been. But Mou is a cancer and the rapid resultshe brings always come at the cost of long term stability and harmony in the dressing room.

Still too early to judge what Klopp is doing - but he hasn't done anything wrong, and Liverpool are playing as well as they have all season. Moving in the right direction.

I love this "Not-So-Special One" version of Mou, want to see more.

Another goalless draw for Man Utd. Truth be told, we probably aren't going to win the title this season. Still backing LVG but if results don't improve then I wouldn't be opposed to seeing a new manager come the end of the season.

Crystal Palace played a better match, Man U was lucky to come away with a tie.

Chelsea lost again!

A wild end to the Everton-Sunderland match, where a fairly well-balaced contest turned into a massacre as Sunderland imploded. There is just so much wrong with Sunderland right now that it's hard to point to any one specific cause for their terrible form. Big Sam has a lot of work to do if he thinks he's going to save them from the drop. They deserved to go down last season and got lucky.
