It can’t be strength of schedule because the SEC was bad this year and most of the teams Alabama played were blowouts. They are getting in because the committee is playing favorites.Winning games is not the only thing the committee looks at.

Agreed. Alabama getting in is all about nepotism/favoritism and getting fans to watch and the game. It is a totally rigged system.

Yep, Alabama scheduled Mercer, a FCS team, the week before they lost to Auburn and is being rewarded for it. College football has the worst playoff system ever devised.
So why does Alabama have the number 4 strength of record?
At least Frost will coach it.Wow, the committee delivered a steaming bag a crap this year.
A non-division winning; non-conference winning Alabama gets in.
The Big10 gets a big FU. Their conference is is shut out.
The only unbeaten team who also happens to have the #1 scoring offense is also shunned.
What a travesty and a joke. In no other sport would this sham of a playoff be tolerated. I won’t be watching any bowl game other than the one UCF plays in.
Though it will make teams like OSU not schedule games like OU early in the season. What benefit does it do them?Last 3 weeks are just one of the criteria. Stop trying to apply some sort of consistent metric. That's why people get frustrated. They think that if you check these boxes (win conference championship, only have one loss, be in the top x in offense defense) that this means you're in. It doesn't. They're data points.
Alabama's reign will end soon.....Much like early 2000s Miami, USC, Florida and now BamaAgreed. Alabama getting in is all about nepotism/favoritism and getting fans to watch and the game. It is a totally rigged system.

I disagree. I don't think the loss to Oklahoma is the issue, it's the 31 point loss to Iowa.
Again, a lot of people are only looking at things they want to look at to make their argument. Yes, it's true the CFP rankings don't come into effect until midway through the season but everything leading up to that plays some part whether its significant or not (we don't really know the committee's criteria). It's simple, you win your games you're likely in especially if you're in a power conference and you're a big program. All OSU had to do was win but they lost to unranked Iowa by a large margin and that was ultimately their undoing. I am almost certain that if the only loss OSU had this season was to OU, they would be in over Alabama. Fans have no problem when their teams are cruising to wins throughout the season but when a bad loss comes, all the excuses and stat picking comes out to make an argument for their team.
THIS is why we need an eight-team playoff after an 11-game regular season. Essentially, it's the Power 5 conference champions plus three best teams selected by a committee.
The regular season already means nothing, lose one game and for the most part you are out. And with so many schools and conferences why even bother. Just create one mega conference with the best 10 schools in the country and not even bother with the rest of it.Hey bud, I agree. I'm an Ohio State fan and I have no issue with Alabama getting in over my team. Some people will make excuses or conjure up reasons sure, but I just want to state that I am not one of those. I try to be as objective as I can be.

Right then we'll have these teams with 9-4 records getting into the playoff. what's the point? Do you really want to see Stanford or Michigan State in the playoff and then the regular season mean nothing?
If you like college football, you should not try and make the regular season mean less. That's what makes it so special.

How many schools are there in division 1. And how many of them have a realistic shot at the title game? This is just hyperbole. I can't understand this sentiment.
A bunch and maybe 4-6 at most. Probably only 4 or 5How many schools are there in division 1. And how many of them have a realistic shot at the title game?
No surprise - Mayfield wins the Heisman, and given his season he certainly deserved it.
Lincoln Riley enjoyed an incredible season, and with Mayfield as as field general we can see why. The question will be when Mayfield leaves, how will at the helm
That's my thinking exactly, we'll have to wait and see next year, though recruiting is probably pretty good for them thanks to their successes.I predict a 2-3 loss season next year. No Mayfield means they lose some games they ended up winning this year. It’ll be like Florida State without Winston.

For what ever reason, I'm not a fan of PAC-12, but I was surprised at how poorly they faired in the bowls.Well. It’s been a bad year for the PAC-12.

Somewhat surprised at the collapse of Miami last night. I'm happy for Wisconsin though.
