Wow! The cost of a ransom. You want it, you pay us this much.

Seriously though, apart from those for whom a $1000+ is "loose change" I would love an insight into who and how people will raise the cost of this phone if these predictions are to be relied upon? Because there will be many such individuals. Personal technology is a very seductive business.

Kudos to Jony Ive though. I'm delighted he's realizing so many great design ambitions in different products most of which are remarkable and beautiful. Long may his creative talent continue to be recognized.

Really, building laptops that require a quiver of dongles are great design? Without Jobs, Jony Ive has lost the discipline that forced him to solve problems bigger than making products thinner.

I doubt it. Game was different then. Recently purchased a mate 9...Think I'm done with paying what Apple charges for the iPhone.

This is my last one, a 6 s plus. I was considering upping to the next one as I am on the apple upgrade program but I doubt it any more. Nothing to even do with this news but the price has gotten out of hand anyway. Here in mexico they are already pretty north of a 1000.00 us. No wonder only 6% here have apple products.

Telmex has really screwed up the internet in this area. Ours has dropped to about a 1/2 a megabit and will not be increasing. We have unlimited cell data but in apples infinite wisdom does not allow download over 100mb on some apps so I have apps I cannot update even though I get about 20 megabits data in our small pueblo.

So I don't see an iphone fitting in any longer. The wife has a s7 edge and while I really like it I prefer the motorola ui.

Not trying to infuriate the strict apple followers, I have a mac and an ipad, I just have to face the future. I like the phone but things like the 100mb limit make it a pita in my position. Yes, I know about starting the app, rebooting, etc. Not working.

In the us it's easier to go phone internet as there are a ton of coffee shops, etc with free internet. Not the same here, especially not where we live.

I'd be willing to bet they don't sell millions of those cars.

just sayin'

;)

Which makes it all the more impressive that the bulk of Apple's sales are the high-end models. ;)

Who's up for paying $1G for a phone!? Specially when the cost is no longer subsidized by cell phone contacts!

Most folks will be buying it on zero-interest installment plans so they won't be forking over the $1000 at the time of purchase.

I have a feeling the overpriced iphone will not sell as much..

I have a feeling it will be their best-selling model to date.

No interest in this, but TBF, I had no interest in any of the previous iPhones since the 3GS. I didn't get into smart phones until 2011 (so the previous ones were never on my radar), and even then, I decided I wanted to try out Android to see what the hoopla was about.

TBF again, I didn't want to spend $650 for a smartphone. ANY smartphone. I got my first 2 Samsung phones for $200 since they were on contract (and I compared my bills, I wasn't charged extra for data or anything). Since T-Mobile did away with contracts, when I needed a new phone then, I just got a used LG G4 for $220. Awesome feeling spending only that much money, but getting a $650 phone (its original MSRP). And another neat thing... my insurance for this phone is the "this phone was so affordable, if I need to replace it, can just pay out of pocket" coverage plan.

A lot of people here seem to be up in arms because of a rumor of a device (with rumored specs) that probably won't be out for another 7 months. Why don't we wait for some concrete information before we start scalding TC and Apple's decisions.
Well, this site is called MacRumors. :p

Hmm, this sounds like something Tim Cook's Apple would do. iPad Pro -> more expensive iPad. MacBook, MacBook Pro, both more expensive than their predecessors. They don't want to sell more anymore, just make everything more expensive and increase margins.

Yet somehow they keep selling more and more phones.

The 7 Plus costs almost that much now this isn't big news. How people pay for them.... same way they pay for any high-end phone zero interest installment via the carrier.... or a lease like T-mobile's Jump on Demand.

And yet if you looked at gross margin over the years you wouldn't see it increasing.

Yeah right, and people will be happy to know there's a new model out there and it's more expensive that's before? Are you really thinking before typing?
We are not talking about a ceramic phone, but a new model based on what already exists.
What are you carrying on about? People will buy what they can afford. I believe this new special phone will cost significantly more than a traditional iPhone. It's not meant to be for your average iPhone user. Think gold Apple Watch. Next year the average iPhone user gets their oled upgrade.

They can kiss my ass! For that price they better throw in a blonde and a redhead with the phone!!!

Cost of 7 Plus with 256 G RAM - 969.00. They are raising the price by a whopping 41 dollars!!!!!!! I don't want any woman that only costs $41. The penicillin and doctor visit alone would double that cost.

You should definitely give Android a try. I don't feel like I'm missing anything. Battery life is great, build quality is top notch, and nougat is blazing fast. I'm very satisfied.

ya'll trippin.

I'm about to buy it as soon as its available for pre-order. I've been waiting for this one.
Ditto. The iPhone is my primary computing device at the end of the day. I will use it more than my laptop or iPad or work computer. I want the best. The only way Apple can justify a price increase is by having something really breakthrough new in it. I'm betting it's the wireless charging I've been waiting for all these years. If it is, shut up and take my money Apple.

That's the price in the us, closer to 1200 here.

Welcome to our world. 256GB 7+ is $1569 here in Australia.

The only thing I'm worried about is having an OLED display on the iPhone is going to make my other devices' displays look crappy by comparison

I want all-OLED across the board soon :D

Your wish is my command master ;):p:D

Same thing happened with the Retina display introduction on the iPhone then MBP. If Apple introduces AMOLED on the iPhone the MB/Pro may receive it in 2018/19, though I would be surprised if the Mac line actually sees it first.

North of $1000, that is pushing at the MBAir/MBPro/iPad Pro territory, unless this iPhone can be a true replacement for a laptop, or do something that will blow us all away with some killer feature I do not see being it widely adopted. Then again maybe Apple will do this due to limited supply to artificially curb demand, it is a win/win for Apple (though I disagree with it).

May it have USB-C already, Apple will be the only company not on-board on the USB-C bandwagon, at least include a Lightening to USB-C adapter in the box.

I've owned androids up until the 5 series, the wife and kids all have androids. I had a shield tablet i gave to one of the kids, he loves it. I did not. I had a moto x pure at the same time as this 6 s plus and liked it as well as this one, gave it to the daughter (18) and she promptly broke it. I held on to the 6 s plus as it fit in well with my mac and ipad, regretting it. Android tablets are not ready for prime time, but some of the phones certainly are.
