First they release a MBP that is less powerful and functional than the last one, with a significant price increase. Now a more expensive iPhone that will still just text, take photos, and make calls. Paying for essentially no useful functionality.

The price to value ratio of Apple products just keeps going down. For as much cash as they have they are really trying to wring every last penny from their products.

Current iPhone Plus 256 costs $969, so that does not sound like a big leap.
But that was for the highest tiered, plus model. The base, 32 GB model (non-plus) started at $649. If this article is true, then the starting price of this new iPhone will be $1,000, and go as high as $1,330.

They go from Greed to Pro Greed. A company making that much profits is milking their customers too much. Am I the only one who isn't proud at those exorbitant big profits? It's a shame! Especially when there is almost nothing coming from that pipeline and there is nothing special about Apple anymore.
You should be light years ahead of the competition instead as 2x as expensive. Electronics are not comparable to fashion and I hope Cook understands Gucci is something different than a computer.

I'll share another brand name with you

Dolce & gabbana

You can have your iPhone 6 with a $700 case (croc effect not actual crocodile leather)

$1000? The 10th Anniversary iPhone is starting to sound like the 20th Anniversary Mac.

Since now I'm on a three year upgrade cycle, it's doesn't seem that bad to spend or rather splurge on a absolute exclusive device. (As long as it has the wow factor)

I guess we'll see what Apple has to offer soon now, won't we?

... I'm a sucker, totally buying it! :oops::p

Tim Cook has lost his mind. The iPhone is already one of the most expensive devices out there!

I think he's seeing $$$$ again. I hope they don't end up ruining the iPhone like they did the MacBook Pro.

What ruined Apple wasn't growth… They got very greedy.

- Steve Jobs, 1995

EXACTLY what is happening now. The question is how long is the board going to let him ruin the company and who is going to rescue it.

Great.. When the Canadian pricing is announced, I'll have to see if the bank will put a lien on my house to afford the iPhone 8.

F*CK THIS. I will never spend this kind of coin on a phone. If Cook thinks he can command this kind of price tag he needs a serious reality check.

Moves like this improves Apple's finances and stock price and those two things are what Boards of Directors retain CEOs for so Tim isn't going anywhere as long as he keeps delivering.

Apples prices can mean either of two things. Either they are ripping everyone off and getting away with it, or Apple foresees an inflationary environment during 2017 that will make their prices look quite reasonable in a few months.

That's not going to happen. There will be something near the current entry level price and perhaps a high end model at the $1000+ price point.

Of course it will be over $1000. iPhones are no longer cutting edge technology, but a fashion accessory. Ooh what that? We get a marginal better camera with some gimmick *cough* live photos *cough*, and Siri can list of two more sports statistics. Sign me up!

Unless there is major inflation that leads to $1000 being worth a lot less than it is now then that is too much for a phone. I'd stick with older iPhones for a bit and then either go to android or go back to a non smart phone plus a tablet.

I really hope it's not true.
OLED screen shouldn't add to the cost at all.
Samsung uses top of the range and the best OLED screens in their phones and the cost isn't affected.
they even use OLED in their budget phones and been doing that for years..
even Sony PS Vita had a very nice OLED screen.
there is no justification of a crazy price hike like than just because of OLED screen.

Well Samsung's phone render looks better. If the new iPhone looks like the render, it's not worth more than $600 bucks.

If this phone will be 1000$ in America, then for sure it's going to cost around 1500$ in Europe. No matter how cutting edge it is, I find this pricing to be absolutely ridiculous.

If the $1k iPhone rumors are true, then it would make for a good time to test out the Android waters. There's way too much competition at this point with equal or better hardware, and at a lower price, even than the base iPhone 7 model.
