If you really think about it, $1000 for a phone is quite ridiculous

If you divide the number of hours you use their smart phone with the cost, it's not expensive compared to other things.

Moves like this improves Apple's finances and stock price and those two things are what Boards of Directors retain CEOs for so Tim isn't going anywhere as long as he keeps delivering.

Yea but the only problem is that they are sacrificing the future for the present and once the money starts drying up it will be extremely difficult to save the company.

Ive and Cook keep prioritizing looks over function

be ready for an iPhone 8 / new macbook fiasco

the next iPhone battery will last 2 hours and the rest will be a huge compromise

Apple has learned nothing, nor has it listened to its customers pleas to stop overpricing their gear.
The proper name for this phone should be the "Middle Finger".

There is ZERO chance I'll pay that much for a phone. Period.
Just out of curiosity how much have you been spending on your iphones? I am not positive on this, but I believe the last 3 I bought were over $900 usd each.

I hope Tim's got a few new features in mind because I won't be paying $1000 for a 7S repackaged as an 8. What's the Plus going to cost, $1200? Someone get Huawei on the phone.

So, for 10 years the iPhone price points have barely changed. Yet for its 10 birthday they're gonna hike that starting price? Seems like a risky thing to do as it will price a huge amount of iPhone users out of the market and considering the importance of iPhone to Apples balance sheet - you'd think they'd want to avoid that. Hence why they've been playing it safe for the last few years!

That's why I love SD cards. Don't have to spend extra $ on more memory. I'll be sure to get another phone with one to replace my 7+ I regret getting.
I have seen people rocking Samsung phones with 8 GB internal memory and 64 GB SD card. Yet they complain because their phone regularly reports internal memory full. Managing SD card and apps install on SD card is still a huge problem with Android.

BTW Huawei Mate 9 is owning iPhone 7 in few GPU benchmarks. Anandtech article here.
This means most phones based on Kirin 960 SOC will perform better in GPU department because of highly improved ARM GPU architecture.
The main gist is Snapdragon, Samsung and Apple may not reign GPU performance kings.
The midrange competition going to get just better.

Seriously what is the use paying $1000 for an iPhone? But people with cash to burn will still buy it as Apple device has achieved a status symbol.

Tim has turned Apple into a caricature of itself. They're taking advantage of their core customer base and it's slowly starting to backfire on them. The Touch Bar MacBook Pro is proof of that.

Cost of 7 Plus with 256 G RAM - 969.00. They are raising the price by a whopping 41 dollars!!!!!!! I don't want any woman that only costs $41. The penicillin and doctor visit alone would double that cost.

If you really think about it, $1000 for a phone is quite ridiculous.

I'm pretty sure I have already paid $1000 for my iPhone 7 plus.

Except the premium iPhone is costing $1000 for 32 gigs......
[doublepost=1486621587][/doublepost]
Isn't it already close to that price?
That's the 256gig model . The premium iPhone will likely start at 1K for 32 gigs right up till $1300 for 256 gigs

Hmm, this sounds like something Tim Cook's Apple would do. iPad Pro -> more expensive iPad. MacBook, MacBook Pro, both more expensive than their predecessors. They don't want to sell more anymore, just make everything more expensive and increase margins.

It's about making the best phones for customers at wider range of price points. Why does BMW sell cars at $30k, 40k, $50k and beyond? Because some customers are more price sensitive, and others want to buy the very top of the line, and have the money to do it. A single car (or phone in this case) for everyone strategy is blown opportunity, and money left on the table. iPhone is more and more saturated by the day. Why not offer another model (7s, 7s Plus, and premium)? Also, if they don't have to make one phone for 200 million people, and instead have a couple of versions, they can offer certain features or technologies that are in short supply.

Apple's 2017 iPhone, which is expected to feature premium parts and radical design changes, could cost "north of $1,000," reports Fast Company, citing a source with "knowledge of Apple's plans."

Rumors suggest the upcoming iPhone, which may be called the iPhone 8, will feature an OLED display that's more expensive than traditional LED displays. Other improvements, such as an increase in memory and wireless charging functionality may also drive up the price. It's not hard to imagine the iPhone hitting that price point when the 256GB iPhone 7 Plus is already at $969 in the United States, and previous rumors have also suggested it will be a "premium" device.

Fast Company's source also confirms some iPhone 8 design rumors, describing the device as "something like a smooth black monolith, with few visual interruptions to its sleek design." That jibes with rumors indicating Apple design chief Jony Ive has been aiming for an iPhone that looks like a single sheet of glass with the Home button and Touch ID fingerprint sensor located under the display.

The Home button technology is still "evolving" according to Fast Company's source, but Apple's goal is to get it done in time for inclusion in the iPhone 8. Physical buttons, such as the volume button, power button, and mute switch could also be eliminated, a rumor we haven't heard before, and the iPhone 8 is said to include a "far bigger battery."

The source also claims Apple is working with Lumentum to develop 3D sensing technology that will be used in the device, but did not provide details on how the feature will be used. The iPhone 8 is expected to include a glass body with a stainless steel frame for durability, and while Fast Company suggests the display will measure in at 5.8 inches, rumors disagree on this point. We've heard everything from 5 inches to 5.8-inches and don't yet have a clear picture on sizing.

With Apple likely planning to position the new OLED iPhone as a high-end premium device with a premium price tag, the company is also rumored to be planning to introduce two more affordable devices with LCD displays that are closer in design to the existing iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus, measuring in at 4.7 and 5.5-inches.

These two devices may feature similar design changes, such as a glass body, but will have pared down features like an LCD display to keep the price down.

With such major changes expected for the 2017 iPhone, which marks the 10th anniversary of the device, rumors have been running rampant for months, making it hard to suss out some of the exact specifications of the device, including display design, screen size, and wireless charging functionality.

As we creep closer to September and start to see the first part leaks, we can expect to have a much clearer picture of what to expect from the first significant iPhone redesign since 2014.

I think it's important to remember it's a rumor. And if the iPhone price is raised, I think it likely affect the OLED model only. The smaller variants wouldn't likely see a price hike. I think the cost of materials is where it affect the Plus model if the more premium features are added.

IPhone cost too much as it is now. I will stay at the IPhone 7 for the rest of my life. I have all the features that I need, phone, text and a ****** browser. I may switch to another platform if I have to do one more update.

Haha, these paid Samsung employees are hilarious.
When the iPhone 7 was announced a lot of the trolls on here said that it was "boring" and they'll buy the Note 7 instead. Yes the infamous Note 7 that explodes.
You know how much that Note 7 cost at debut? Just under $900 (880), for the base model!
Nearly $1000 and over $200 more than the $650 base model for iPhone 7!

So last year you were ok paying that price for an iPhone ripoff that explodes but not for an entirely redesigned iPhone with upgraded premium components?
Meanwhile, carriers no longer subsidize the phones anyway so now you just join the AT&T Next plan (or your carrier equivalent) and upgrade every 12 months.
As part of the plan you don't pay the full price anyway, you just pay half of it!
And this is all assuming the rumor is even true to begin with.

Seriously, the whining (or trolling depending on your pov) on this forum when it comes to iPhone and Tim Cook is ridiculous.

First off, this years phone will not be called the iPhone 8. That would be next year's model. Quit saying the iPhone 8. Apple hasn't broken the iPhone naming cycle in 10 years. iPhone Pro (which is my guess, with their current naming scheme) or the iPhone X (which stands for 10).

Secondly, quit complaining about how much the next flagship iPhone *might* cost. If this iPhone is too expensive for you, don't buy it. But you know you will. Everyone will.

This is Apple, who have always been expensive, but, in my opinion, worth it. For YEARS Apple's products have cost much more than the competition.

That "iPhone ripoff" had all the features iPhone 8 can potentially get and then some (like S-Pen and iris scan).

Does it have Force Touch?

Does it have Apple Pay?

Does it have seamless pairing like with AirPods?

Does it have iMessage?

Does the battery last for a day?

Do I have to deal with burn in screens?

No, thank you, that and a 1000 more reasons. And the iPhone doesn't explode.
