I think they are going to do a 7S, 7S Plus and an 8 this year. The 8 will be the one that tops out over a grand, and about $149-$189 per storage tier more than the other 2. It will cost Apple an extra $18 to make, so they can jack margins. It will be the ONLY one to have the amoled screen, wrap around "5.8 inches" and wireless charging. The 7S and 7SP will just be the S versions of what we have now. They won't get anything but a chip and camera update. Not even wireless charging.
I can pretty guarantee I'll be quoting this post in September for being dead on accurate.

considering we all know apple has 200Billion in cash, it's seems like a pisstake to charge more and more when the company is only pulling cash out of the world to horde it. Apple always claims it is fairness and good for the world but the 'company' part that is apple is run by some of the most scrooge like tight fisted share holder brown noising ****ers. It wouldn't be so bad if apple was making profits in line with the rest of industry but their margins are too high.

....and if we all owned Apple we would of course reduce margins to the minimum possible. We would also throw out environmental disaster phones en masse at really cheap prices, so we have no profits and be in line with other competitors.
That way consumers can sleep at night knowing we are just there to make sure they have a lot of money left for everything else they want.

It's a good thing businesses only exist not to make money or make only as much as somebody who doesn't even know the real costs tells us.

Oh, and we would also make sure there is world peace!

In places like China the higher price will only make the phone that much more desirable as a status symbol.

Wow, in China expensive things are status symbols??
Neato, mister. I hope I get to travel there & see that some day!!

Sounds WILD & hard to imagine! I'm from the United States; here nobody is ostentatious... you never see people wear a Rolex or drive a Ferrari as a status symbol. That must only be a thing "in places like China".
Do you have any other interesting tidbits that you could share with us about their culture and how vastly different it is than ours? I love hearing divisive things about other cultures from "people in the know".

Of course it will be, Tim Cooks still CEO.
What´s your point? Cook is the best CEO Apple ever had, making the rich shareholders even richer. Are you a commie? Don´t you understand and love how capitalism works?
But from any point of view Cook is by far better than Jobs ever was with his mobileme, antennagate, "i finally cracked it" (yeah, sure you did..) failures.
And he put in Tim Cook as CEO. I mean....oh...wait....

This is BS. The phone is basically a more expensive, currently available, Android phone.

If they are truly going to release two phones, a 4th gen iPhone 6 and the "8", I hope that Samsung and the other Android phones out there do better than Apple. They have gotten greedy.

The 7 will become the base unit and have 32 GB storage only.

Do tell! :D

Aren't you the Oracle, knowing what everybody will do? Yes, some people with more money (or tolerance for debt) than brains will buy it no matter what the price, but the air gets thinner at higher altitudes. Apple is shooting for the stratosphere now and I've seen a lot of people switch or buy earlier version to save money.

I've sat out the last 2 cycles, no iPhone 7 or 6S here, instead my SE is perfect in size and does exactly what I need.
I've waited till the 64GB dropped in price when they introduced the 7. $0 on a mid-tier plan.

For me the magic is gone and I'm planning my escape from the walled garden/prison.
[doublepost=1486641338][/doublepost]
Exactly, fewer people make actual phone calls these days, too many other communication options.
Once my plan is up in July, I'm going data-only ($15/month 3GB) & free voip

So it is not the price of the 6s or 7, you just like the small SE so much. Somehow you are saying both and that makes no sense.

Exactly, fewer people make actual phone calls these days, too many other communication options.

erm....yes...this is why we like bigger screens..but have fun with your SE.

I find it amusing how many people with an iPhone 7+ are complaining about a $1000 iPhone. Prices for the 7+ START at $770. When one can justify nearly $800 for a phone, $1000 isn't that much of a stretch.

For me, ($150 for a Sharp Aquos Crystal and then $350 for a 64GB iPhone SE) $770 is as insane as $1000.

Perspective people! :eek::D

Considering the processing power is closing in, in a much more compact form factor to boot, I don't see why not.

That price makes sense only if the iPhone can do as much as a desktop or laptop. Make the new iPhone able to run MacOS with a separate monitor, keyboard, and mouse while in a dock and it'd be worth that money.

Boy is this post getting a lot of feathers ruffled.

I don't think this is going to happen. Last year it was rumored that Apple was going to release 3 iterations of the iPhone 7, with the top tier being an iPhone "Pro." Different year, same rehashed rumor. Apple's product lines are already getting a little wonky, and introducing another iPhone model would not be good for keeping the buying experience simple for the average consumer. Also, we saw with the Apple Watch that people don't really care about "pro" or "premium" when they are already buying a premium device. Just my two cents.
Like I said. The bigger the outburst, the more you know Apple is doing something right. ;)

I hope you get the chance to go there so you will understand what I mean. It wasn't divisive it is just the way it is.

let me guess

still in college, eating ramen noodles, scraps around for beer money, & 1st in line buying the iphone 8?

wrong on literally all counts.

Ditto. The iPhone is my primary computing device at the end of the day. I will use it more than my laptop or iPad or work computer. I want the best. The only way Apple can justify a price increase is by having something really breakthrough new in it. I'm betting it's the wireless charging I've been waiting for all these years. If it is, shut up and take my money Apple.

Exactly! Especially since I paid around $1k for my current 6s Plus and use this phone more than any other electronic product I own. As soon as the anniversary phone rumors came up, I knew what we were in store for. I simply can't wait.

This might be ok if people kept their phones several years, but I think a lot of people get new phone yearly. So I guess it may depend on the resale value. Still electronics in general have tended to gradually come down in price, not go up other than maybe a brand new first year run at a new technology like when OLED TV's came out. And as far as OLED screens on phones, well they have been out for a few years and cheap ones at that, so that's not a good excuse.

I agree with most of everything you posted, but I'm finding it hard to think why Apple would do a wrap around display? from what i've seen and heard the S7 Edge isn't very useful at this when it comes to using the edge part of the display, so unless Apple have found a way of making it useful or they have other ideas, i find it very hard to believe.

Hmm, this sounds like something Tim Cook's Apple would do. iPad Pro -> more expensive iPad. MacBook, MacBook Pro, both more expensive than their predecessors. They don't want to sell more anymore, just make everything more expensive and increase margins.
<begin satire> A car company makes premium cars. They introduce a super-car line with more expensive, extra-premium technology because there is a market for it. Much of the new technology makes it into the existing line, which is very competitive with the competition. Somehow that makes the car company evil. <end satire>

don't worry they will release a cheaper version without all the fancy features that is more like an iPhone 7S. Then if you want to newest it will be more expensive but of course supplies will be constrained due to poor yields on displays
You mean a 6SSS?

I paid $299 for my iPhone 6 64GB, why the hell would I pay multiple times that for my next phone? It better be covered with pixie dust and a beautiful girl to read me my emails. Not going to happen.

You need to rework some of your material if you ever want to get an HBO comedy special....

Doesn't like iPhone 6S still TROUNCE on the very fastest Samsungs ever made? I mean, I guess they had "big screens" 1st, but I seem to recall decent fingerprint scanning coming AFTER they saw how Apple did it, Samsung Pay coming AFTER they saw Apple's implementation, etc.
I'm pretty sure this round, you'll get to see their cheap copy of 3D Touch, at least!!! =)
I hear they had to drop the pointless 4K screen, because of how battery taxing they are (in light of the Note 7 debacle), so sadly you won't get a meaningless bragging point there. Oh, I did hear that it could have dual speakers like the iPhone 7, so there's that....
If you're expecting their imbedded home button to be on par with Apple's, prepare to be disappointed.
I know you Android guys love your benchmarks (or did that start to wane, after Apple started not only leading in real-world performance, but in synthetic benchmarks as well??), at any rate- I'd bet literally anything that even in the silly new overclocked "beast mode" Samsung's off-the-shelf CPU won't be able to touch Apple's custom designed A11 chip.
You are so wrong...the Oled screed on the S7 edge is beautiful, the Battery life is soon much better, the camera "actually" performs well in low light. Fingerprint scanner is the only thing the iPhone does better, and that is fixed with Nougat. Dual Speakers are a nice to have but certainly not a selling point. The physical back button is far more intuitive than scanning the screen for a digital back button. Waterproofing, UI customisation if you need it,.....yawn the list goes on. iPhone 7 doesn't hold a candle to the S7 Edge and i personally can't see the iPhone 8 even competing with what samsung have on the market now. This isn't even up for debate at this point the new flagship Android phones ARE better!

This is what I've been worrying about, the iPhone getting priced out of a comfortable range for me. The only silver lining is that in my opinion, models from the 6 on are good enough to stay with. I've already skipped my usual two year upgrade once and stuck with my 6. I may just stay behind a couple generations from here on if the price gets too high. We'll see.

I've actually stuck with the 6 for the same reason. This may be what sends me over to the Google Pixel. I'm just not willing to pay more for an iPhone than I paid for a PC. It's become very apparent over the last year or two that Apple is no longer interested in having me as a customer, and I'm actually ok with that now.

Lol @ 22 pages of people who no longer have subsidized plans and have suddenly realized that the iPhone is priced like a mini-computer (BECAUSE IT IS A MINI-COMPUTER). OMG WHY DOESN'T IT COST $200 NEVAR BUYING ANOTHER IPHONE F U APPLE.
