A lot of people here seem to be up in arms because of a rumor of a device (with rumored specs) that probably won't be out for another 7 months. Why don't we wait for some concrete information before we start scalding TC and Apple's decisions.

These are Apple fans we're talking about. The company can do nothing right by them. :p

More expensive and the next iPhone will bomb. The price needs to drop by $200 at least to garner interest again. Can't begin to tell you how many people have switched to Android this past year.

And almost every single Android phone manufacturer lost money last quarter - and does so every quarter. Hell, even Blackberry made money, yet only Samsung and Sony did for Android - and guess what, those two sell really expensive phones, too.

There is always a place for a premium, high quality product in the market. Analogy: even with Toyota, Hyundai and Honda's; Mercedes, BMW and Porsche still do a fine business. Apple will balance out the phone line with affordable models aside from the flagship.

And Toyota and Honda have their Lexus and Acura divisions to cater to the high quality market and even Hyundai is now playing in that market with first Equus and now their new Genesis division.

"I have my own theory about why the decline happens at companies like IBM or Microsoft. The company does a great job, innovates and becomes a monopoly or close to it in some field, and then the quality of the product becomes less important. The product starts valuing the great salesmen, because they're the ones who can move the needle on revenues, not the product engineers and designers. So the salespeople end up running the company" - Steve Jobs

And yet who was Apple's best salesperson?

Steve Jobs.

After all, he was the one who got us to pay $500 in full for the first iPhone and we had to pay for a two year service contract on top of that.

Apple's 2017 iPhone, which is expected to feature premium parts and radical design changes, could cost "north of $1,000," reports Fast Company, citing a source with "knowledge of Apple's plans."

How true and sad at the same time.

Absolutely ridiculous. No phone should cost that much, regardless of how "premium" it is.

It's more than a phone - it's a mobile device.

We all spend so much time on our iPhone's that there is room for any price I'd say. I hope they make a wide enough range of prices to keep them somewhat affordable - otherwise a lot of people will just have to use older phones purchased on the "used" market.

Not interested with a phone that expensive. Especially since it's rumored to be large in physical size. I'll keep holding on and wait for either a deep discounted iPhone SE or an iPhone SE2. No interest in phablets and my current iPhone 6 is my last larger size iPhone. Just isn't for me.

This is a trial rumor. The pricing will come in at $950 and Apple will say its a revolution to bring the new iPhone in at that price and under everyones expectations.

iPhones will cost the same as Macs eventually...

So I think we can start speculating that the MacBook isn't going to necessarily replace just the MacBook Air. It's more of a replacement for the iPhone when it becomes so large and priced beyond most people's reach that they're going to just start holding a laptop up to their ear to make a call. As a bonus, the MacBook has the best keyboard ever built for a smartphone... er I mean laptop-phone. No more complaints of fat fingers being unable to hit the right virtual keys.

All kidding aside, I don't actually find the idea of a $1000+ smartphone abhorrent if it's an excellent product. You don't have to buy it, you know? I probably won't. If they ever manage to shrink a MBP into a phone's form factor and it has good battery life and specs, that's worth a lot more than $1000 to me even though I'm conditioned to believe that phones should always be $199 with a 2-year plan.

I doubt we'll see a $1000 phone. Maybe a $100 price jump over the Plus will happen, putting base model at $869 for this "Pro" edition, but over $1000 would be suicide. Look at the Apple Watch Edition at $10,000. No one bought one, because it's not worth that much. Same with an iPhone. Over $1000 would be ridiculous. I'm positive Apple can see that charging $350 more for the base model would not be good for their sales or PR.

Also, it's just a rumor, and it's from Fast Company. If it was from Ming Chi-Kuo, I'd put a little more weight behind this rumor, but as it stands, I don't have much faith in this rumor panning out.

Calling it now: this is pricing fakeout similar to the original iPad launch. The rumors were that it was going to cost $1000+, then it was $500 and people felt like it was a deal. http://www.csmonitor.com/Technology...e-Apple-iPad-cost-Same-as-the-original-iPhone

Maybe the 8 will be $100 more than the 7s (released at the same time) and people are going to be relieved since they thought it might be much higher.
