Disastrous 3-0 away loss for the Crew against a Philly team that did nothing last season (though in David Accam they now have a finisher and he punished our mistakes). Columbus look very vulnerable without Steffen in goal - and with him leaving for Man City in July this is a scary taste of what is to come unless we sign quality a replacement.

It was a pretty one sided game from what I saw of it.

The Czechs have had a poor team for a while now, I expected nothing less than an easy win.

USA made heavy work of beating a nothing special Ecuador side earlier this week. It was a pretty boring match, but the MLS-based players are not yet match fit so hopefully we will see some improvement during the spring.

Ole's at the wheel on a permanent basis with a three year contract. The rest of the current coaching staff will stay on, contract details remain to be worked out for assistant manager Mike Phelan. Good news all around for United.

I will take a 2-1 win today, Ole first official win as new manager.

Not a good performance at all, but sometimes you've just got to gut out those 3 points. At least in the post-match interviews, neither Ole or the players tried to paper things over. Much do a much better job to get something off Wolves.

He deserves it, and has done exceptionally well so far; as player, man and manager he is an excellent role model.

Columbus beat Atlanta 2-0 last night during a biblical downpour that saw a 55-minute rain delay in the first half. Hard to take too much from the match given the terrible conditions on the pitch, though Steffen probably preserved the win with two excellent saves. Pipa Higuain had a penalty saved by Guzan. Pipa is our designated penalty taker, but (without looking at the stats) I feel like his record is not exactly a rival for James Milner. To be fair, the incredibly wet conditions probably made it hard to strike the ball with the usual power and accuracy.

Either way, it feels great to beat MLS's newest favorite son.

I hate ATL so much...

I still do not think Liverpool will be able to pip Man City to the title this season, but they nearly threw the title race away today against Spurs. Granted, Spurs are one of the best teams in the league, so I expected a tight match and we certainly got one.

Both teams had chances to win it, and in the end you can probably point to either of two errors - Sissoko's miss or Lloris' fumble - as decisive. Liverpool started really well but (as often this season) they only translated their early dominance into one goal.

At least it keeps the pressure on Man City.

Maybe someday they will have earned respect but today...they are just soooooo plastic.

Have to agree with you.
At least all the stars were aligned for my fantasy team this weekend!

Most of my competitors have Salah or Manè so I was pleased Firmino got the goal!
Man City’s game in hand is against Cardiff so you’d be shocked if they slip up this week.
But I suspect there will still be a few surprises this season.
The race for third and fourth is also riveting to watch. Who will miss out?

Effortless by McTominay.
[doublepost=1554232416][/doublepost]Wolves' Jota equalizes due to very sloppy defense by United.

McTominay is the only United player who showed up. Should have had an easy brace. Great match for him.

A top 4 team simply does not have the likes of Ashley Young, Phil Jones, and Chris Smalling comprising the majority of their defensive back line.

Reading predictions written by footballing writers as to which teams shall finish in the top four, I was struck that most seemed to assume that Manchester United would manage to achieve this almost automatically.

To me, this is not a foregone conclusion.

While Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has undoubtedly rejuvenated the team, and offered a vision, and direction, and focus, - and is clearly an excellent manager - inevitably, he (and the team) was and were going to stumble at some stage.

Agreed. Calling United's effort "*****" would be the understatement of the year. Plenty of fiddle faddle in the second half with United getting a bit too handsy.

Probably because they've had long periods where they won and historically they've done well. Recent history says otherwise. Apart from one win, they stumbled about 9 or 10 years ago. Relegated to runners up and then being pushed out of the third place spot. Times change.

While not connected, it's worth noting no one expected Croatia to do so well last summer. It wasn't a fluke either.

Funny thing happened the other day. A buddy of mine, a Manu U fan, was giving me a hard time about my beloved SWFC and what a messed up season we are having. I stated "...now that we have an English manager we'll do much better." He scoffed and sarcastically said, "Yeah, that that's what all the good teams do."

I quickly reminded him that one team had a lot of success with one Alex Ferguson... :p

* I have nothing against foreign managers in the EPL, or anywhere else, mind you. I do believe that English managers are very underrated sometimes though. ;)
