Funny thing happened the other day. A buddy of mine, a Manu U fan, was giving me a hard time about my beloved SWFC and what a messed up season we are having. I stated "...now that we have an English manager we'll do much better." He scoffed and sarcastically said, "Yeah, that that's what all the good teams do."

I quickly reminded him that one team had a lot of success with one Alex Ferguson... :p

Alex Ferguson is English? Don't try telling him that!

I am hard pressed to think of an English manager who is doing a really great job at a top-flight team at the moment, or even over the past 5-10 years. Gareth Southgate with the English national team, that's about it.

United is regressing back to the mean due to injuries, suspensions, and probably fatigue. They played pretty well at the Emirates and still lost, and things could have been very different at Molineaux yesterday if Lukaku or Lingard took their chances better and got that second goal, they wouldn't have been in a position where De Gea + Fred and Smalling made critical mistakes that cost them dearly.

I still think there is a lot of dead weight in the squad that should have been cleared out ages ago. While I don't expect them to sell 6 players and bring in 6 more, United needs to be much more aggressive about freshening up the squad and bringing in players to play Ole's way. The decision to hire a Director of Football is a critical one — I'm tired of seeing Ed Woodward make a mess of things on the football side. Paul Mitchell or Edwin Van Der Sar would do nicely.

Not Happy! None of my Fantasy team players play tonight!
Augero and Alonso didn’t even make the bench! Grrrr.
Still Man City are going top and as it stands Chelsea are in the top four.
In other words plenty of banter in the office tomorrow for the Liverpool and Spurs fans in the office!

Well even better he's Scottish! But you get my point. He's not a fancy schamncy euro coach.

As an Arsenal supporter, it is rather difficult to even write this post. But, yes, Spurs have a rather impressive stadium...

Karma; generosity of spirit. Wishing someone - and someplace - well. These things matter.

As Arsenal supporters, it is entirely appropriate for us to welcome Spurs to their new stadium, salute its artistic - and architectural - aesthetic, and hope that they really relish - and truly enjoy - their new home.

That doesn't have to mean that we wish them too much by way of success on the field, especially when we play them........

Watching Bayern/Dortmund match, and Bayern is having their way with Dortmund, 4-0, with approximately 13 minutes to go.

I thought today’s result might have annoyed you! Still hanging on to fourth. Well until Chelsea play us Monday. Not expecting much.

Infuriating.

All the old failings - poor defending, actually, sloppy and brittle defending, and a pronounced lack of grit, determination and character in fighting back and attempting to make a contest of it - made an unwelcome reappearance here.

While fortunately, Arsenal's home form has improved considerably this season, unfortunately, our away form - especially against half decent sides is still brutally bad.

Away at Chelsea tonight. Don’t fancy our chances as our form of late hasn’t been brilliant.
In other news Andy Carroll has had to undergo ankle surgery.
This will take him out for the rest of the season and to the end of his contract.
Great player when he’s fit, but with just 104 games played since he signed in 2013, a career of what might have been.
I really hope if he gets another contact it’s a pay as you play deal.

"Pay as you play deal" - I like the sound of that; it could have a promising future, as long as there is a decent basic salary already in place.

What of the gentleman who wishes to head to the Orient "to win trophies"?

Leyton?

We've not managed a shot on goal yet. Trailing to a Hazard goal who is being very heavily linked with a move to Madrid.

Southend? :p

That is not where I think his ambitions lie....

Decent Brother texted me (he spent the week-end in Porto, toured the port caves, and bought me a gift of a bottle of good port) and couldn't resist mentioning Arsenal's brittle performance on the bus from the airport. Grrr.

I admitted that I have tired of overpaid, underperforming glittering stars who disappear for hours on end during a major contest, or football match.

Just ask him about Sunderland if he does it again!

I'm sure Chelsea are scared. We just brought Snodgrass on!

Getting ready to watch Spurs/Man City match, the chips and dip are prepared, beer on ice. Hoping for a good match.

Big win for Spurs, even if a single goal is hardly something to worry Man City going into the second leg. No away goal for City - that could be more significant. Still can't see Spurs knocking City out at this point though.

If Kane is out for the second leg, there is zero chance Spurs win.

Liverpool were clearly the better team and won as expected, but Porto limited the damage and a 2-0 cushion is hardly enough to allow Klopp to relax going into an away leg. I can easily see Porto sneaking a couple goals from a combination of free kicks, corners, penalties, and counterattacks. Liverpool face a tough return match even if they are still clear favorites.

Liverpool have the pedigree, the history, the tradition, at CL level - they reached the final as recently as last year; this is something that they can draw upon.

Yes, the second round will be a tough match, but there is no reason that they cannot win.

Spurs did very well, and that was an impressive win.
