Yeah, I enjoy hearing people's "that's why I support XYZ" stories too. It's interesting to know what motivates people to follow a club that sometimes they have no local affiliation to.

My story is that although I am supposed to be a Villa supporter (my entire family are Villans and we are from Birmingham), my uncle (who used to play for Villa) was the assistant manager at Southampton and I went back to the UK with my mum when I was 11 years old and he took me on a tour of the club - a real "behind the scenes" thing.
I met legends of the club and the game (Alan Ball, Peter Shilton, Kevin Keegan, Nick Holmes, Steve Moran, etc etc) and instantly became a fan. Also got to "train" with them and put a sweet goal past Shilton (he swore he was really trying to save it), from a lovely through-ball from Kev. Memories...
So there you go - been a Saints fan since the very early 1980's.
I played against Alan Ball once.

I do enjoy people's stories about how they chose their club, or how their club chose them.

I was a 10 year old American lad when my friend's parents took us to see the San Jose Earthquakes in the old NASL. They pointed out a bearded Northern Irishman playing on the right and told us to watch him, as he was a legendary player who had won everything there was to win in Europe alongside two equally legendary teammates and a legendary manager. So yeah, it was on for United from an early age for me.
The reason I follow THE MASSIVE WEDNESDAY is that I'd like to think I could step in at the age of 57 and be a better right/left back than anyone else playing for Wednesday currently, but the real truth is American footballer John Harkes used to play for them.

England appear to have redeemed themselves in the eyes of a few fans with a win this morning/afternoon/evening
To be fair, Iceland are not the team they were a few years ago...

...nor were Iceland ever, even at their peak, a team England should be too excited about beating. Thrashing Germany 6-0...now that's a result.

It's a feel-good win for England, much as it was good to see USA hammer Panama 6-2. But in both cases it tells us little about how the teams are likely to perform against tough opponents in their next tournament.

Couldn't agree more.

It appears to have papered over the cracks in both cases, in my opinion.
The Spain result was...well...spectacular!
I watched that game and Germany were cut open at will by the Spanish.

And everyone will write off the Germans at the next big tournament and then they will be there or there about at the end. Always happens.

MLS playoffs are underway. Columbus finished in third place in the Eastern conference, and face off against NY Red Bulls in their first playoff match. The COVID-19 situation is very bad in Columbus right now, so the first playoff match will be without fans. I am not optimistic the situation is headed anywhere but down for the remainder of 2020, so I suspect the league will finish the season with mostly empty stadiums.

MLS previously imposed a 25% pay cut on many employees and just this week fired 20% of the league staff. They project something like $1 billion in missed revenue thus far.

Certainly. Even when Germany are disappointing they are still consistently good and the talent is there to see.

Something about the Premier League causes fans in England to consistently overrate the talent/capabilities of the England squad.

I blame the press to be honest. We beat some third rate country (principality) and the next thing we’ve only got to turn up and we can go home with the trophy.

Indeed. Unless you were one of his teammates at Southampton. Apparently he used to leave his payslip out on show in the dressing room! But yes very nice guy.
Played in the same Boy Scouts team as Teddy Sheringham back in the day. He was a winger, had less meat on him than a chicken wing and never wanted to pass the ball ;-)

His father was a Policeman just like my father they served together

Bear with me definitely football related.

Back in the 1980's worked for Alan Sugar at AMSTRAD purchasing manager for spares and service, man that was a busy job! The series 2000 computer debacle was not our fault it was Western Digital and Seagate Hard drives and controllers.

My boss asked me to attend a meeting on the 10th floor of Brentwood House with Alan. Crisis meeting, Every director in the company and poor little me. At one point Alan stuck out the famous finger and said to my boss 'you haven't got a ****@ing clue where all this hard drives and controller are'. I did, all on a spreadsheet every controller and hard drive returned under RMA to the suppliers. I knew where every damn controller and drive was so I raised my hand in trepidation and said 'Alan I can have that information on your desk in 30 minutes'.

Two days later the Finance Director appeared at my desk and gave me 2 tickets to the FA Cup Final Spurs vs Man City. Celebrity box not just normal tickets, I took my brother and we had an amazing day out.

McGuire is on my Bad Person list still. As the Captain, he is lucky I don't court-martial him.

Spurs are up 1-0 against MC, hopefully, it is a good match. I expect my team to do well against West Brom.

If you don’t do well against West Brom you’ve got big problems. Hopefully Rashford plays as I need the points. Traded Salah for Greelish this week. So naturally Villa lost!

Interesting fact. Harry McGuire has had more shots this season than Aubameyang. No wonder they are struggling.

I'm not sure whether it is that, - having signed his new contract, - Aubameyang is perhaps a little less urgently driven to demonstrate his sheer class, or, simply that Aubameyang is played out of his best possible position, or, that Mikel Arteta is insisting that players hold to a specific shape, and thus, attacking creativity is curtailed, but, certainly, this season, Arsenal are not firing on all cylinders.

Agree re Maguire.

Interesting to see that Spurs defeated Manchester City by two goals to nil.

Everyone is focussing on Pep Guardiola, (who signed a new contract), but City never recovered from having released Vincent Kompany at the end of the season before last (and they never found a suitable or satisfactory replacement), and this season, while they still have Kevin de Bruyne, I think that they miss David Silva, who was an outstanding player.
