I'm not sure whether it is that, - having signed his new contract, - Aubameyang is perhaps a little less urgently driven to demonstrate his sheer class, or, simply that Aubameyang is played out of his best possible position, or, that Mikel Arteta is insisting that players hold to a specific shape, and thus, attacking creativity is curtailed, but, certainly, this season, Arsenal are not firing on all cylinders.

Agree re Maguire.

Interesting to see that Spurs defeated Manchester City by two goals to nil.

Everyone is focussing on Pep Guardiola, (who signed a new contract), but City never recovered from having released Vincent Company at the end of the season before last (never found sa suitable or satisfactory replacement), and this season, while they still have Kevin de Bruyne, I think that they miss David Silva, who was an outstanding player.
Absolutely. Even with his injuries, Company was a positive influence in the dressing room.

And Pepe......sigh.

This sort of display of brainless stupidity really irks me (not saying that Alioski didn't milk it for all it was worth).
Well that keeps us in front of you!

But looking at the stats, Leeds will feel that’s two points lost. Arsenal are probably relieved with the point.

Well yes. Can’t believe Leeds haven’t scored yet.

They’ve had 19 shots to 7.

Though I grit my teeth to say so (Arsenal were brutal at times, and I'd imagine that Mikel Arteta will roast a few individuals), this is one of those days when I'll rest content with, and happily accept, that single, solitary, (but very welcome) point.

If you don’t do well against West Brom you’ve got big problems. Hopefully Rashford plays as I need the points. Traded Salah for Greelish this week. So naturally Villa lost!
I played Triple Captain on Grealish! The one time I put any faith in that boy and he delivers single digit returns (3pts!!!)

Not happy.

Plenty of doings in MLS...Columbus won their opening playoff match against New York Red Bulls 3-2 yesterday. I suspect we'll lose to Toronto in the next round but there's always hope, and it's been a good season. Columbus players Darlington Nagbe and Eloy Room have bagged the goal of the season and save of the season awards, respectively!

Sporting Kansas City's keeper saved all three penalties he faced in the Sporks' shootout against San Jose. Even stranger were the scenes in Orlando, where the penalty shootout between Orlando FC and New York City FC took 22 minutes, delayed by a series of infuriating reffing interventions. Orlando's keeper getting sent off for jumping off his line, his replacement getting subbed in, then sent back off the field, and an outfield player stepping in to become the hero - or did he? Worth watching for the craziness factor.
An impressive and confident win.

It ended up being a bit less of an occasion than I expected. Liverpool may be working with a patched up defense, but Leicester's defense had an off day.

I know the richer cubs probably do benefit more from the five subs rule (and I stress I think it should be a temporary thing), but Klopp also has a point about player health. There are just too many injuries happening with this compressed schedule. And more will follow.

Probably? 100% they do. It’s bad enough the PL changed the VAR official due to Klopp’s moaning about it. Let’s not give the top sides anymore advantages shall we?

I think it's bigger than that though. The richest clubs have an unfair financial advantage over the rest of the league, and the "smaller" clubs oppose any rule changes they perceive gives the rich clubs any further advantage. Makes perfect sense at first glance. But for one thing it's all relative. More equitable spreading of wealth around the entirety of English football is badly needed, and the "small" clubs in the PL don't give a hoot if everyone below them goes bankrupt - they will hold onto what they've got at all costs. So it's every club for themselves really, and the "small" clubs in the PL are screwing the cubs below them in the pyramid every bit as much, if not more, than they themselves are being screwed by the richest clubs in the Premier League. It's a ruthless, selfish cycle and no club is blameless.

But stepping outside that whole paradigm for a minute, I think we can look at things from a player health perspective. The leagues are clearly not listening carefully enough to sports science. The schedule is too compressed. That is a decision driven purely by business considerations, not player health, not providing the best experiences for fans, and not creating the best competition.

Some have raised the point: what if this compressed schedule is notably increasing the incidence of serious muscle and joint injuries (which it undoubtedly is)? And what if that ends up knocking seasons off the careers of may professional athletes down the road? The overall impact may be hard to quantify as readily as the amount of potential revenue lost as a result of no fans in stadiums, but it it is a real thing, and it should be taken more seriously.

As a Nottingham Forest fan, its always pleasing to see Leicester fall flat on their faces. Well done Liverpool

We are all somewhere in that pyramid agreed. But I do think in the PL at least the bigger clubs already have too big an advantage over the others. Some teams lower down the league will be bringing on boys if they need a fresh pair of legs. Your star defender isn’t out because he played too many games. It was the result of a tackle wasn’t it?
We need to level the playing field as much as possible. But the difficult question is how?
Football has enough money for all. But it’s not shared out. But then I see Spurs went from a 69 million profit to a 63 million loss this year. Not sure that’s sustainable for long!

Glad they could help. ;)

There are no easy answers to the broader question of how to level the playing field. The most simplified answer I can give is we need independent governance that is not answerable to any club. The Premier League is the biggest problem, and that includes the smaller clubs in the league even if the biggest ones have the most control and resources, and bear the lion's share of the blame. Power needs to be stripped from this league and given to a third party (a reborn FA) that is independently funded and staffed.

In other words, club football should not be run by the clubs.

Virgil's injury was not a fatigue-related one, but all the other absences a Liverpool can be linked to either the compressed schedule or COVID. And those issues are simply not being adequately addressed, at any level of the pyramid. There needs to be more COVID testing and players need to be given more opportunities to rest.
