I went looking for it to see if it was interesting. Been deleted apparently.
You should be able to see the original post in Apple fanboy's quote of it. I found the content interesting myself, just it doesn't have to do with the thread. Mistakes happen.

Apparently the PPV model will be scrapped for televising games in England. Glad to see that terrible idea rightly consigned to the garbage.
Back to footballing matters I see Sunderland has had a sale agreed. Whether they have enough money to get Sunderland where they think they belong is another matter.
I have no dog in that race, but after watching the Sunderland Till I Die docos I feel for their fans. Some stability would be pretty welcome!

I spent some time in the North East and Sunderland fans think they are a sleeping giant because of the fans in the City. But outside of Sunderland the only fan I know of is @scepticalscribes brother.

I will just watch the highlights of the England/Belgium match because I will be concentrating on the Masters tomorrow.

Yes, my brother - as a small boy - lost his heart to them in 1973.

He has regretted it often in the years since then, and now tells me that they have broken his heart so often that he "no longer cares".

He does, of course, but just not as much as he used to care.

Well as a West Ham fan we have had some good years and some bad. But I’ve never been accused of being a glory hunter I suppose!

Same with my brother; he used to receive looks of utter stupefaction when people learned what team he supported. But no-one could ever have accused him of being a glory hunter.

My father supported Manchester United (the Munich crash was a subject on which he would become emotional) as does Other Brother (but, not as passionately as when he was younger).

Not just a terrible idea, and terrible optics, but, with much of the country furloughed, and pubs shut, a greedy idea that would not have been anything like as profitable, - as many would not be in a position to have been able to afford this - as they may have thought when they first floated the idea.

My dad used to vaguely support Man Utd for similar reasons. But he has been supporting Leyton Orient for the last decade or so. Was going to home games prior to the pandemic.

Personally I’ve not been to a game in a few years. Not been to a home game since we left Upton Park.
It’s a long way to go and very expensive. But our ground is season tickets only last time I checked. But of course I’m not sure when we will see crowds back at games. Not this season in my opinion.

Sad news today that Ray Clemence has died.
One of the greats.

Too young, really. Had more to give and more life to live.

I went to this game at Wembley in 1981. Don't know why, but always thought it was Shilton in goal that day (in my somewhat faded memories)

I do enjoy people's stories about how they chose their club, or how their club chose them.

I was a 10 year old American lad when my friend's parents took us to see the San Jose Earthquakes in the old NASL. They pointed out a bearded Northern Irishman playing on the right and told us to watch him, as he was a legendary player who had won everything there was to win in Europe alongside two equally legendary teammates and a legendary manager. So yeah, it was on for United from an early age for me.

My Godfather used to take me to Upton Park as a young boy. That’s how I ended up as a hammer.

Sorry in advance:

My son and I won our first title together tonight!

We've won on seperate teams but this is the first title together.

9-1-0
I only ever got to play one season of summer 7's with my son before injury killed me off.
Would have loved to be able to play with him at a more competitive level (but he'd wipe the floor with me these days - even at the age of 15!)

I do love that it's the "adult league" as opposed to a specific age group...

Yeah, I enjoy hearing people's "that's why I support XYZ" stories too. It's interesting to know what motivates people to follow a club that sometimes they have no local affiliation to.

My story is that although I am supposed to be a Villa supporter (my entire family are Villans and we are from Birmingham), my uncle (who used to play for Villa) was the assistant manager at Southampton and I went back to the UK with my mum when I was 11 years old and he took me on a tour of the club - a real "behind the scenes" thing.
I met legends of the club and the game (Alan Ball, Peter Shilton, Kevin Keegan, Nick Holmes, Steve Moran, etc etc) and instantly became a fan. Also got to "train" with them and put a sweet goal past Shilton (he swore he was really trying to save it), from a lovely through-ball from Kev. Memories...
So there you go - been a Saints fan since the very early 1980's.
