Can’t say I’m surprised. It’s Chelski. Finishing in the PL top four, last four of the CL and a cup is considered the absolute minimum.
Sorry to see him go. Maybe they will give his uncle a try?
Or more likely Benitez until the end of the season.

It seems that Thomas Tuchel will be his replacement.

Fair enough. I don’t follow European football all that closely.
I'll be honest, and admit that I had never heard of him until a few years ago, either, when Decent Brother, who followed football much more closely than I ever did (but who has lost a lot of interest in football since Covid appeared in our lives) briefed me on Thomas Tuchel, and advised that this was who I should hope to see appointed to replace Mr Wenger.

Tuchel succeeded Jurgen Klopp at Dortmund. He did well for a while, but wore out his welcome with their board and was let go. PSG then hired him, where his European failures were his ultimate undoing.

He would have done a better job at Arsenal than Emery did, but so far he hasn't proven he's a manager who can build something for the longer term, and I expect that won't change at Chelsea.

Let’s not feel too sorry for any of the string of ex Chelsea managers. I think they all received decent pay offs!

Meanwhile we are trying to secure Man Utd’s forgotten man, Jesse Lingard.
I don't feel sorry for the string of Chelsea's ex-managers, and I have small doubt that they received handsome pay-offs, but, that doesn't detract from the fact that they were still treated shabbily and in a cavalier manner by Mr Abramovich.

An Arsenal victory against Southampton, by a comfortable enough margin of three goals to one, taking Arsenal to eighth in the table, with four wins and one draw from their last five league matches.

I can’t ever remember six wins in a row from West Ham. Maybe when we had Tony Cottey and Frank Macavenie up front in the 80’s!

Not even in the 60s?

Anyway, it is looking good for you at the moment; an excellent season for West Ham.
Agreed. I looked it up. Apparently we had an unbeaten run more recently than that.
We had a 10 game unbeaten run in 2016.
Our longest winning run was 5 games in 2006.
We’ve just equalled that (plus two FA cup victories).
But Liverpool up next.

Sheffield United (currently languishing at the bottom of the table) deservedly defeat Manchester United (currently placed second) by two goals to one at Old Trafford, for their second victory of the season, and their first at Old Trafford in almost half a century.

Shocked at that one. Just watching the highlights now. I wasn’t expecting to still be 4th in the league after tonight’s round of games.

That was a good performance from Arsenal yesterday. Heading in the right direction.

Sheffield at home, sandwiched between Liverpool in the Cup and Arsenal in the league, was always going to be a banana peel game for United, and slip they did. Fatigue surely also played a factor, but Wilder set his team up right from the start to make United uncomfortable, and they couldn't adjust.

Also helped that David De Gea had a major clunker of a match. He didn't get much help from his defenders, but he was primarily to blame for both goals (though wasn't he fouled before the first goal?).

It's time to stop playing Anthony Martial as a 9, and he shouldn't play ahead of Rashford on the left, either.

Need to summon up a massive response against Arsenal or we'll get run right out of North London in a real hurry.
