I did. I played Vardy as triple captain, thinking Leicester would do well in the 2 matches they had in this game week.

I was right, in as much as Leicester is now - for the moment - top of the league after 2 wins, but Vardy was - pretty much - useless in both games. 🤬🤬🤬

Transferred him out and bought back Kane. So expect a hat-trick from Vardy next week. 😝
I already have Kane. Vardy was captain but didn’t play bonus.

Very familiar look to the top of the table. Well top 5 anyway!

Just watched the football highlights. How can Man City’s goal against Villa stand? 10 yards offside. Comes back on side tackles Mings and City score. Check out the Silva goal if you can.

I agree. Absolutely outrageous. And then Dean Smith got sent off for arguing it, even more outrageous.

Meanwhile United slogged their way to three points at the Cottage. I really respect what Scott Parker is building at Fulham and he has some good players at his disposal — I expect they'll get out of the relegation zone soon enough. United largely looked poor aside from Pogba, whose hard work and sublime skill made the difference. He's reminding us all just how good he really is.

Another brutal weekend ahead for Liverpool, who are now in total free-fall in term of results and will almost certainly lose at OT. Luckily this is not a league match.

New contract on the card for Moyes, who seems to have found his groove at West Ham. If they can afford to keep him!

Let’s hope it’s better than last week! But it’s irrelevant. In the next round you’ll face us, so might as well concede now!
Glad things worked out for Moyes. He’s a good fit for us where Pelagrini was not.

I'm pleased for Moyes that it's worked out for him at West Ham. He never, ever should have been appointed manager at United — a huge overreach for all involved.

I expect Liverpool will actually turn up at OT. Both squads look like they're running on fumes at the moment, but it's the rivalry and neither of them will want to spurn a chance to win a trophy.

Arsenal go down 0-1 against Southampton and are out of the cup. Disjointed performance from the Gunners. Southampton didn't do anything fancy, but they were solid and that was enough.

I have no doubt Liverpool will be there in terms of effort and desire to perform, but the entire front line is gassed and the defense remains a patchwork. Maybe falling behind in the table will carry a small silver lining in taking the pressure off - the media narrative has shifted its gaze elsewhere - but you can't manufacture freshness out of thin air, so I remain pessimistic.

Moyes' reputation took a massive hit at Man Utd - but nobody could have succeeded Ferguson and made it a success, the expectations were unrealistic. It's taken time but people seem to be remembering that prior to that he was a good manager. And still is.

There was star player was absent due to personal reasons. No idea what they were, but when he’s on form he is a big difference for them. Shame for Arsenal, as a good cup run would have glossed over a pretty poor season.
That said a good cup run for Southampton who are having a terrific season, will be good for them to.

Well, I'm torn, to be honest.

We were (well, are, until the day of the Final) the holders, and have an excellent record (or, in general a very good record) with the FA Cup, so it is nice to do well.

Still, at another level, I'm not that sorry: I'd love to see ous out of all cups, al distractions, and simply focus on getting the structure (and focus) and cohesion (and ambition) of the team right.

Re the "star player", personal reasons - whatever they were - apart, he hasn't really shone (or delivered) so far this season, and I have harbour doubts about the wisdom of building a team around one person.

Anyway, good luck to Southampton. They deserved the victory and I hope that they progress far in the competition.

2-0 up now. One more and we can relax. Glad it doesn’t look like we will need to call on the big guns. Although as we have either Liverpool or Man U in the next round, it’s hardly looking like it will be our year.

Rafa Benitez is bailing on his job in China. That could make the sack race very interesting at a few clubs.

Turned out to be a walkover for your boys. And I wouldn't be too pessimistic for the next round, there has been more parity this year than for a very long time, though at the minute Man Utd can't stop winning. You've got a shot for sure. And if Liverpool somehow get through you'll have an even better shot on current form.

It was a good win for the West Ham B team. Made for an enjoyable watch. But I think whoever we face in the next round will be favourites. Home advantage for one.

Welp, that was about what I expected. Both United and Liverpool played pretty well, just fine margins separating the two sides on the day. Really, just the sublime quality of one free kick from Bruno Fernandes.

Set up a nice tie for us in the next round. Come on you Irons!

What do you thing, does Jr. deserves to be sacked?

You might argue that if Timo Werner had performed as expected his job would be safe...

This is Chelsea we're talking about here. They're not afraid to sack a manager there, even if he's a club legend.

It seems obvious in hindsight that Lampard was not ready for the job, and he clearly could not get much of anything out of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz. I think my question is, how did Chelsea envision those players lining up and fitting within a system? It's not just about spending a truckload of money, but buying pieces that fit together. I've seen this happen at United far too many times, and I'm glad they've gotten away from that under Ole, even if the board has been too conservative otherwise at times.

How long will Thomas Tuchel last at the Bridge? He's a pretty decent manager and I'm sure will find a way to improve Chelsea's play with the current squad, but he tends to wear out his welcome within a few years.

Let's put it this way: Security of tenure doesn't come as part of the package when you are employed by, and anwserable to, Mr Abramovich and have failed to perform (and in this context, performance is defined by, delivering trophies). Chelsea need to be challenging for a Champion's League place, at the very least.

Personally, I think that Frank Lampard lacked experience as a manager, and lacked tactical knowledge and experience.

Excellent post, and one which said what I wanted to say better than I did.

Can’t say I’m surprised. It’s Chelski. Finishing in the PL top four, last four of the CL and a cup is considered the absolute minimum.
Sorry to see him go. Maybe they will give his uncle a try?
Or more likely Benitez until the end of the season.
