It's a bit of a necessary evil for watching some of the PL matches. There are a few other bits and bobs on that platform that are worth watching. Since we cut back on streaming services to save some money, I ended up watching the World Cup on Peacock in Spanish — pretty much worth it to hear Andres Cantor breaking down on air when Argentina won. (And also worth it to avoid the horrendous Fox announcing crew!)

How right you are, I watched the knock-out round via BBC simply because Fux hastes teh soccers!
I used to go to a pub in NYC with oh 100-200 other supporters so watching at home is more relaxing.

It'll be interesting (as others have said) to see what transpires when the world of domestic football kicks off again.

There's going to be a number of clubs that either didn't have international players away during that period, so they've been keeping fresh and *fingers crossed* injury-free; but for other clubs, there will be a whole raft of players (both first-choice players and the more peripheral players) who have been away, for longer or shorter stints at the WC.
Of course, then you have the likes of Haaland and others who have had a nice holiday and some serious gym-time who will likely hit the ground running - which is a scary prospect.

Yet other teams are almost starting fresh - there have been a few new faces appear in the last month or so. For example, Saints have a new manager and coaching staff, which will see them start a different style of play, perhaps a new-look squad, based on what he's seen and likes or dislikes; plus of course, January chaos is about to hit us in the form of the transfer window.

Some players that have been out with injury will be back - and they may have had enough time to properly rehab. Yet others will have picked up fresh knocks at WC or in friendlies played over the last month.

Personally, I am looking forward to it, but I have to say - the quality of football (forget the politics and drama) that was on show at the FIFA Human Rights Cup has been pretty spectacular and those leagues that have already started back up look pretty ordinary by comparison - so will this have an effect on the viewership of the domestic leagues?

And then we also have domestic cups starting back up, to add to the congestion. That's a whole other thread!

Glad the rust wasn't too thick for Utd in the Carabao Cup match yesterday. Eriksen and Rashford are still on it.

Hopefully the Liverpool / city tie today is a good one — the best thing about it that one of them will be out after this round.

They certainly looked up for it.
Whilst I was quietly rooting for Burnley, they did look outclassed against what is starting to look like a well-drilled United side.
It seems Ten Haag is starting to make his mark.

Indeed it was a fun match to watch as a relative neutral. City could've been out of sight if not for some wastefulness and good last ditch defending from Liverpool, and Darwin Nunez needs some lessons from Marcus Rashford on how to finish at the far post from the right side.

Made some free transfers to my fantasy team. By the looks of the injury list we will be struggling to put a team out against Arsenal on Monday. Doesn't bode well.

We haven't emerged from the World Cup unscathed, either.

Well, ESR (Smith-Rowe) has already been out injured for much of this season, while we have suffered a serious injury to Gabriel Jesus, which I can only describe as a significant blow, as he has been excellent for us since his arrival last summer.

I doubt we will be much of a threat. Zouma is out, Dawson is out, Scamacca and Antonio are both doubtful. Rice played every minute for England and often covered the most distance on the pitch, so if he plays he'll be exhausted no doubt.

Thinking back on it. Emi Martinez really has been a clown with his conduct. And i'm not sure what the obsession is with Mbappe (jealousy?). You've won the WC which is already huge enough but he kept prattling on and on and the rude gesture was the last straw for me. Kids are watching.
Maybe Arteta saw something untoward which is why he binned him despite arguably being at the peak of his powers at Arsenal.

Anyway, glad club football is back. Will be interesting to see how teams fare with their 11s tomorrow.

Pep currently getting flack for calling Kelvin Phillips too fat to play.

CR7 looks set for Saudi or MLS, since no one in europe wants him but i won't be surprised if he ends up in Chelsea, they need a goalscorer anyway

Wonder how Lampard, Lopetegui, and Emery will fare for the rest of the season

Will Gakpo end up in Utd or Newcastle. Will Bellingham join 'Pool or Madrid

Merry Christmas all

I’m glad club football is back but it’s a strange one. Normally at the start of the season you are full of hope and wanting it to be a good year. But my club had such a poor first half, my expectations are incredibly low. If we had an amazing second hdd as of of the season, it’s too late for us to qualify for Europe or anything. So just want to get this season done and move on to a better one next year.

You never know. There's a Jan window and we dont know how teams will respond post-WC.

I have written here - and commented elsewhere such as in texts, and chats - that I had really regretted the fact that Arsenal had sold Emi Martínez, whom I thought had been a superb keeper for us, that time when he stepped in to replace the injured Leno (who was nowhere nearly as good), and that I had thought - at the time and since - that it was a poor decision, even if the assumed motivation for the sale was the immediate need for cash and the fact that there were purchasers who wished to buy Martínez.

Now, I wonder whether Mr Arteta - who seems to have high standards re conduct - was also influenced by concerns about character when it to his decision to sell Martínez, because, I have to say that I agree with you. His conduct was deplorable, and he is no longer a youngster, but an adult - what Our Transatlantic Cousins would describe as a grown-ass adult - from whom one can expect - or hope for - something better by way of behaviour.
