So the petro-derby finishes Saudi Arabia 3 - 3 United Arab Emirates.

Makes ‘Pool’s start to the season feel a little less wobbly, but I still have a grim fear Man City could run away with the title. And, grimmer still, every step Newcastle takes towards becoming a ‘top club’ validates the awful state club ownership model they copied from Man City.

Cry more.
Nobody gave a **** when some guy exploiting kids in Burmese sweat shops was in charge.

After 3 games, i think the EPL will be a lot more interesting/competitive this year because;

1. The top two are weaker slightly compared to last season and are sort of undergoing a mini transition

- Mane is a palpable miss, so many times he has bailed or got Pool going in tricky matches. LFC also look short in midfield.
- City still aren't used to playing with a recognised 9, only De Bruyne has been actively trying to find Haaland. And there has been a little impact with the loss of Jesus and Sterling

2. Because of EPL TV rights all 20 clubs have flexed their financial muscle and raided Europe. Meaning the rest of the league have strengthened/stabilised (except Leicester)...hence there are no easy games.

3. The battle for top 4 will be immense;
- United WILL improve under ETH, not because of Casemiro, but because i think ETH can get more from them
- Spurs have strengthened but are still very much playable because Son is not firing and looks unhappy. Plus Chelsea and Arsenal have arguably better midfields.
- Chelsea can't be ruled out because its Chelsea, they have a good squad and may yet get a striker
- Arsenal are still a wild card to me...we will really know what they're about in Oct.

4. We will probably find out this season if Lampard and Gerrard are good managers because they have the ingredients and now need to deliver.

5. Rogers and Cooper really need to steady their ships or i fear they will struggle. The former looks set to lose 2-3 of his best players. The latter has to make 16 signings (and counting) work.

6. The World Cup break will be massively disruptive and may even become decisive for some teams, especially those with smaller squads.

Its a long season and things could flip, either way it'll be fun.

EPL has very strong TV rights because their games are actually quite popular here in the USA despite the time zone difference. In fact, during the American football season (both college and professional), many tailgaters watch EPL games on NBC, now USA Network and the Peacock streaming service. I wouldn't be surprised if NBC signs a multibillion (US) per year deal for the EPL the next time the rights are up.

I feel like Mourinho at a press conference after a loss...any commentary I make at this point will be primarily driven by emotion and thus later sound foolish...

Prepare for a week of hysteria from both sets of supporters. Ten Hag is the second coming of Ferg, and Mané was apparently the only reason Liverpool ever won a match.

Liverpool was missing an awful lot of their key players, especially in attack, but United really needed this for their own self-belief: if you run and you press, you will set yourself up for success. Any United fan who overreacts to this result needs to be reminded there's a long way to go and a lot of work to do to get back to the top, but I'll savor the win, regardless.

I sincerely hope Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw have lost their places for good.

As much as I hate to see Man U succeed at anything, I think they put on a great performance this morning (NZT).
They outplayed Liverpool from start to finish and it was a masterstroke to leave Ronaldo on the bench. Was surprised to see him come on at all, if I am honest.

The one thing that really let the whole game down was Bruno Fernandes constantly cheating. Flopping around, diving, holding his face/head & generally being an unlikable character with no sportsmanship.
He should have been sent off today for multiple yellow card offences, but I dare say the ref was scared of what would transpire if he did produce two yellows for Man U's favourite son.
He has so much talent and so much promise, but then he makes me hate him with a passion because of his gamesmanship and lack of moral fortitude on the pitch.

Anyway - Saints are still above both Liverpool and Man U and are currently occupying 8th equal spot (14th on goal difference) after a magnificent display to come back against a determined but ultimately flawed Leicester City.
Great to see Chele come off the bench and score two great goals. I hope we don't sell him and still manage to strengthen further up front (rumoured to be in the hunt for 25-million-pound-man Goncalo Ramos from Benfica).
Don't know too much about the bloke, but if we're prepared to blow our transfer record out of the water for him, I hope he's as good a catch as the last couple of rather tasty transfers we've brought in.

I'm just not happy that Man U have found their form right now - we play them next and I worry for the Saints back line. Here's hoping Ten Hag puts out Maguire and Ronaldo against us. That would be glorious. But I have a sneaking suspicion it'll be today's squad with the addition of Casemeiro (sp?) at some stage during the game. I think we might take a heavy defeat and move on from this one, if I look at the game realistically.

Man Ure scored 2 very flukey goals tonight against a Liverpool team that weren’t even playing at 5 percent and Liverpool should have drawn with them. Ronaldo is always sulking and performing badly because he now realises he can never be regarded as better than Messi

Just an awful take. Man United worked hard and worked for each other and got exactly what the deserved.
Plus Ronaldo is better than Messi and should always be regarded as so. Just because he’s a bit of a tosser doesn’t change that.
