There is no question Iraola is a Premier League-quality manager, he proved that fairly convincingly at Bournemouth. Though with a club Liverpool's size I don't believe there is such a thing as a surefire candidate. Even top names could fail at a club with very high expectations. And Iraola will now be on the other side of the dugout, so to speak - before, he was demonstrating an ability to absorb pressure from big teams and get results - now he will have to break down the Bournemouths of the league.
So it's a gamble, but on the face of it a not unreasonable one. Assuming he is the hire, I will wait and see how things develop. He's not just taking over the reins - he's walking into a squad rebuild. A tough task for anyone at any level.

Iraola is a manager I would've wanted at Man Utd for sure. He's done a very, very impressive job at Bournemouth.
The biggest challenge for a manager stepping up from a lower team to an elite team isn't tactics or footballing philosophy, it's man-management. The top clubs have the top talent and the biggest egos to manage. What works for a squad at a club pushing for mid-table won't necessarily fly at a Liverpool, Man Utd, or Real Madrid. Carrick has proven he can handle that part of the job, though INEOS and Amorim did a good job clearing out the malcontents beforehand. We'll see if Iraola can crack it, too.

I would add to that 'Fan-management.' Modern elite managers are pantomime figures, entertaining puppets performing for us on the sideline and in the press room in addition to actually managing the football. Many clearly dislike this part of the job, but those that are charismatic and skilled at messaging have more success controlling the narrative and seeming to give the fans what they want - even when the fans really don't know what they want or are asking for something the manager disagrees with. There are times for brutal honesty, but while fans claim they always want that, the reality is that fans want to be told what they want to hear just as much as they want to win football matches.
Plenty of managers have kept the dressing room onside but been doomed by losing the public narrative, even when they were really doing what was best for the club.

I heard this on a YouTube short: for most Liverpool fans, if they had been told at the point that Klopp left that Slot would give them an EPL title and a Champions League finish in two years as manager, they would have bitten your hand off.

I think producing a club shirt with Haaland’s name on it was a special touch. Hope they self implode (which always seems to happen when Mourino is involved these days).
