The West Ham (or rather Sullivan) situation is shocking and it does throw conventional wisdom out the window in terms of the club's immediate future.

I still think they have a very good chance of earning immediate promotion IF the ownership situation can be stabilized this summer. Admittedly a big IF, but in many ways it is an attractive club to buy. But if Sullivan hangs on I can see things getting incredibly toxic very fast. He's the kind of man who doesn't care about anyone but himself, so he's not going to do the right thing unless his hand is forced.
I’m ever hopeful of a decent buy out. But there are very few millionaires (well billionaires hopefully!) that have the sort of pedigree you’d want running your club.

If only I had the money!

Reports of a Somali referee denied entry into the US for the WC despite having a diplomatic passport with a clear reason for travel

Other reports of teams switching their base camp from the US to Mexico to avoid issues

Iran's fan group tickets have been revoked (predictably). Fans from other regions being denied visas

Add to that people cancelling reservations or not even bothering to travel to avoid any dealings with ICE

And FIFA jacking up ticket prices that only corporate entities can afford at this point

What a mess.

You know you've royally cocked up when the Qatar WC is starting to look less cringeworthy compared to whatever the heck is going on in the US

The only reason I want this tournament to continue is because it gives everyday people the opportunity to boo this embarrassment on live, globally broadcast TV. Oh, wait, are there any everyday people at these matches?

The Qatar world cup was corrupt farce. And yet this one is managing to look worse. Heck, Putin's tournament is now looking positively transparent and fair by comparison. If you told me we'd be here ten years ago I would have laughed at you. Well, now the joke is on me and every decent human being on this spinning rock we call home.

And as long as we keep paying to watch we're effectively funding this experiment in kleptocratic kakistocracy.

I'm genuinely wondering who is gonna pick up Sancho... there was so much talent there, but he - more or less - imploded early on in United. So is there a career to rescue or is he done on the highest level, you think?

This is a dumpster fire of the highest order. I do enjoy football and have good memories of previous World Cups but this one is going to be traumatic for football fans. I can compare it to the mess that for me a fanatic figure skating fan that was the Beijing Olympics. The doping scandal, the war afterwards, the fact that my two of my favourite men's singles skaters, Yuzaru Hanyu and the gold medalist Nathan Chen retired. The most talented Russian women skaters (who tested clean) like Alexandra Trusova were banned because of the war (not here to discuss that issue) and the most promising US women's skater, Alysa Liu, retired after Beijing and the World's championship in March because of several issues I also won't get into here. I stopped paying attention to figure skating for 6 months afterward and while we have new skaters coming up (and Alysa came back to win World's in 2025 and now the Olympic gold) some of the damage was long lasting.

All this to say even as a casual football fan I am angry about the mess-ups and disgusting way many players, officials and fans are being treated. All fans should be furious and want better for the sport.

Maybe a return to Dortmund, if his wage demands aren't totally insane.

As much as I look forward to watching the games, I do hope this World Cup blows up in the face of FIFA and the US — their collective greed and arrogance is truly appalling. Government talk of ramping up ICE activity in New York City with the World Cup on is going to be a massive own goal on the world stage.

The only way things will change for the better is if fans worldwide get really, really mad. Because the powers that be have zero incentive to be fair, transparent, and self-regulate. They won't fix anything - they are actively doing the opposite. So really the faster it gets worse the sooner we'll storm the Bastille and maybe start fixing things.

Yep. It's tragic we have to live though this, or think this way, but how can we support something that is actively undermining not only the sport we love, but our basic human rights? And gaslighting us to boot. It's revolting.

Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard.

He's been at several top clubs and failed to deliver.

He'll need to take a huge wage cut for someone to have a punt

I can see him signing up for Villa.

See how much time I will have to watch the World Cup?
I will watch at least our 🇸🇪 guys who did got to the WorldCup, not a bad team at all at the moment💥

If I had the American FOX channel I definitely would have checked out Zlatan who will be expert commentator for them. I bet we will get at least some snippets of it here.
We’ll see how great he will be as a commentator - he is a man with great humour at least.

Zlatan is always entertaining.

Yeah I'm not planning watching any of it
