Well, if you use CoverSutra as an iTunes controller (Ok, it has the cool art-on-desktop thing) then I would use QS, its iTunes plug-in is awesome.

Photoshop - journakist
VLC - watching stuff
Acrobat - journalist
Calculator - ditto
Disk Utility - obviously
Firefox - for non-Safari websites
Entourage - work email
Excel - money
iTunes - obviously

i tried that for a bit, but it wasn't as elegant and most of the time it messes up and puts songs out of order, doesn't display album art, etc

what kind of rules are you running on Hazel ?? I've just installed it and haven't really 'got' it yet

thanks

- I've got a bunch of rules set up on my /Volumes folder, so that when I connect certain devices (Thumbdrives and external backup drives), then various Chronosync backup scripts get triggered via Automator workflows

- Rules on a 'drop box' folder, that automatically assigns some Spotlight comments based on the files I drop in there

- A rule on my main documents folder that watches for new and/or changed files, and automatically makes a second copy of the file to a backup location

There's a forum for Tips n' tricks on the Noodlesoft site that has some ideas, including those I've listed above
