firefox
photoshop
coversutra
adium

Coversutra is probably my favorite itunes controller. It beats sizzelingkeys, which is also amazing

Let me jump in as well:

Apple
1. Mail
2. Safari
3. Keynote
4. iTunes

3rd Party
1. Word/Excel
2. VMWare - for IE (internet banking) and one work related software I cannot disclose but it only runs on Windows
3. Quicksilver
4. SMC Fan Control(?):p

No, really. The battery menu is so undescriptive. I need to know MORE.
Doesn't help much if your hardware incorrectly reports the battery stats. My percentage jumps all over the place for no apparent reason. I've had the Macbook shut down at 40%.

1 MacVim (for coding, mail, general text editing)
2Terminal (i admin alot of servers over ssh)
3 iChat (some of my co workers work remotely, this is the best way of communicating)
4 Firefox (surfing pr0n during downtimes at work...kidding...I use it for the same stuff everyones else does + webmail)

1. Safari
2. PithHelmet (add-blocker for Safari)
3. Mail
4. TextEdit (I use this especially for reminders and notes, never really got into using Stickies for this purpose)
5. iTunes
6. Pages (At work I use Word, at home I like a different approach of word processing, although I can't say Pages is that easier and user-friendlier...:)
7. Quicktime
8. VLC (only for videos Quicktime refuses to play)
9. NetNewsWire
10.Nisus Thesaurus (I like this one better than Apple's Dictionary)

am trying out "sapiens" which was mentioned in this forum; so far, i'm impressed -- very cool. rep for quicksilver????

Applications I use each and everyday!

Spotlight <3
World of Warcraft (damn right)
Quicktime (I listen to movies when I go to sleep :) )
Adium (gotta chat)
Ventrillo (Guild chat)
Skype (non-Guild chat)
iTunes (need music)
Safari (need porn)
Transmission (*see: iTunes & Safari)
Mail.app (important stoof)

and of course

Time Machine (backup my music and porn)

Scrivener - Best app for a writer or a student.
OmniWeb - A Browser that was made for the Mac
Yojimbo - For all your various bits of info
Mailsmith - Eudora for C21

:apple:

'Never ask a man what kind of computer he uses. If he is a Mac owner, he will tell you. If he is not, why embarrass him?' - Tom Clancy

Soundbooth – and with the advent of the CS4 version, I have finally put my Bias Deck to rest.

Mail: The most simple mail-app out there. And I like simplicity.

Adobe Bridge: Very good for audio files. If it only had the feature of being able to lock files in a neat and fast way (it does) it would be on this list.

Preview: Duh!

Apple
1. iTunes-it is open whenever my mac is on
2. Safari
3. Does Quicklook count, because I use it a TON
4. iPhoto

3rd Party
1. Handbrake
2. RapidoStart-heard about it here
3. Gimp
4. NetNewsWire
5. Microsoft Office (Sorry I had to put that in there)

Some of the apps folks mention are kind of weird to pick out, for example someone mentioned Finder - well, how are you going to use the computer if you don't use Finder? Hardly a mark in favor of Finder, more like necessity - what else are you gonna use? For all that I don't even like it, but must use it. So anyhow, seems to me we should exclude native utility apps (even if I use them extensively) like Disk Utility, Activity Monitor, and so on. Also kind of the same with Safari - use it constantly, but I'm not crazy about it (and neither am I crazy about Firefox) so how much you use it is not a good measure of how much you like it.

For me, from Apple:

1)Dashboard widgets
2)TextEdit
3)iTunes
4)Calculator

Third party - sorry, gotta do more than 4 - top 10 :)

1)info.xhead
2)Little Snitch
3)xPad
4)Google Notifier
5)Toast 8
6)MacTheRipper
7)Azureus (Vuze)
8)Journler
9)JollyFastVNC
10)Overflow

OC, I, for one, didn't mention Finder because I don't consider it an app. I consider it part of the OS. Just like I don't consider "Airport Utility" and System Prefs apps either. No, I couldn't do without either of those things, but I don't consider them apps as such, but basic OS-tools, if that makes sense?

Excluding multiplatform apps (Photoshop — can't live without this on ANY computer) and apps that come with OS X (Safari, Mail, Preview, TextEdit, etc... I use a lot of them), my list is probably something like:

- Adium
- Coversutra
- Transmission
- iPhoto — I'll count this as it comes with new Macs but not OS X itself, and is essential, especially if I want to give my iPhone new wallpapers. >.<

I could probably add Transmit to the list, but I don't FTP a lot at home and don't have Transmit at work. :( Or maybe it's because CyberDuck is so slow and crashy.

I also might have added either Quicksilver or Launchbar, but since Leopard came out the new Spotlight has been "good enough" to warrant having one less application running in the background.

Also, Inquisitor is fantastic, though not really an application per se. Same goes for Safari AdBlock (the Leopard-only one) which is torturous to live without.

And without Perian I'd be forced to watch things in VLC, which used to be essential, but is falling behind the times recently.

It's hard to leave Toast off the list too, cause when I need it, nothing else will suffice.

Yeah, it's hard to keep the list to 4 apps. :)
