It doesn't matter how good the Air feels to use if you can't get the shot you want/need or the battery doesn't last you. And in the same relative price range as the Pros it needs to be at least AS GOOD to warrant its value proposition, which it doesn't.

Dude I respect your opinion but I think it’s time we dropped this “battery issue” thing as it’s not warranted as confirmed by the people that actually own the phone, myself included.

I own the phone as well, as you can see in my signature, and it indeed does NOT last me an entire day. Barely lasts me till 5pm actually. And that's because in my line of work I film video quite often, and the Air can't keep up unfortunately.

Value is subjective. Different people place different value on different features.
OBJECTIVELY speaking, it's a piss poor value proposition (less hardware and features compared to the $200 CHEAPER base 17). And with sales reportedly being quite lackluster compared to Apple's expectations, it appears that the majority seems to agree. But it's a gorgeous piece of hardware, and an engineering marvel, nonetheless.👏🏼

"Warranted" is relative. It has the lowest battery life of the iPhone lineup this year.

A lot of people, and dare I say - most people - don't want to baby their battery so it lasts throughout the day.

I don't baby the Air's battery and it's fine for my needs. I have a 90% charge limit set, take it off the charger around 6am and I usually get home at 5pm with 60+% still. Granted, I use a desktop + iPad most of my workday.

Only reason I'm returning the Air is because it's too wide/tall.

Apologies the signature does show on my phone.

Maybe best swap it for a pro then?

It does have the lowest battery life of this years lineup but that’s on par with the 16 pro from last year which I don’t remember anyone complaining about.

It’s considerably better than my 15 pro. I’m at 29% as I type this after heavy usage today (for my use case, off charge at 7am, now nearly midnight in my location) and my pro would need charging by now.

I just feel it gets an unfair reputation and isn’t as bad as many are making out that’s all.

and those who need more than 1 camera and are spending 10+ hrs every day staring at the screen probably shouldn't get the Air. But guess what, some people, dare I say a lot of people don't do that and the Air will serve them fine.

Well no **** if you barely use it the battery isn’t going to drain…

The problem is, nobody compares against last year's iPhone. That's moving the goalposts.

You wouldn't say, nobody complained about the A18 chip last year, so if Air used A18 then it's alright.

Battery life is insatiable. People buying an iPhone today have today's battery life expectations. This means people expect Air to match other iPhones from this year.

The Air doesn't get an unfair reputation. It is what it is, which is the lowest battery life of the lineup.

Sure, but none of that is "hate."

The reality is, a lot of people have high camera and battery life expectations. So you're naturally going to see a lot of criticism against the Air.

sure, here on MR a lot of people are highly critical, whether they are knowledgeable or in actual need, doesn't matter.

Not sure I’ve seen a lot of Air “hate”, but there does seem to be a lot of “lol downgrade” vibe, so maybe those two things are similar enough to justify the claim.

The Air is my favorite phone ever from a form factor perspective. It’s a large screen in an overall package that is thinner and lighter and more comfortable and premium feeling than any other phone I’ve ever had. Coming from a 14 Pro, my battery life is better on the Air, and the feeling of holding and using it makes up the missing cameras and stereo speaker (for me anyway).

If they keep making the Air, and iterating and improving, I’ll keep buying them. My first iPhone was the 5, and the experience of using the Air brings me back to how much my mind was blown when I made the switch to iPhones from Android.
I get what you mean, the phone feels fresh and unique, like something innovative and truly new, just because of the form factor. I really think the Air would’ve sounded like a complete concept phone a couple years ago, or like something you would see on those crazy 3D rendered “next iPhone” videos on YouTube back in the day. I think Apple made something inspired this time around.

Indeed. Based on these forums, one would think the Air represents 50% of actual sales. Because anybody who uses speakers is a nut job. Weight and design are absolute priority. And battery life, as long as it lasts most of the day, is enough.

The sales reality so far shows people really care about battery life, cameras, and less so about design. And the Pro Max and regular models are backordered by several weeks.

Yet the Air isn’t selling well at all compared to the rest of this year’s lineup… So clearly cameras and battery life ARE important to the general public as well.

with the Pros and the regular model people knew what they were getting, basically the next gen.
The Air is new and most people want to hold and feel it before committing, let's see how xmas sales will look like.

And you know that availability is dependent on a lot of things and esp how many Apple actually built.

How do you know this? I am curious to see where you got the sales numbers. Few years back you would have though on macrumors iPhone mini was best selling iPhone.

Loved the Air, gave it back.

Dammit it for not having ultra wide!

They should have just made it ultra wide and applied the same fake telephoto to a 0.5x lens instead of a 1x lens.
Nonononooooo, thank you. You’d be throwing away three-quarters of the pixels on almost every photo. Do you know how niche a 14mm lens is in photography?

I already think the main lens is too wide. I wish it was 28mm, personally, which is a classic wide-angle

There's discussion but I'm not seeing much hate. Everyone pretty much agrees it's lovely to look at and hold but that it has compromises to achieve it. People disagree on how much those compromises affect them. That's about it
If you’re not seeing any hate - you’re not reading any articles on this forum

The Air's 1x is 26mm. My 16P 1x is 24mm (plus ultra wide and tele)

Plenty re 16 pro bettery, it’s ok if not used a lot, on par with Air apparently.
