Four years on and the current software is inferior in every way to the original when it comes to the most basic music navigation. This is the meat and drink stuff not the fancy gimmicks. It’s such a shame.

Apple Watch shipped around 9 million units in the final quarter of 2018. In 2017 it outsold the entire Swiss Watch industry combined (Rolex, Swatch, etc).

So please, let's hear about how much of a failure it is.

who said it was a failure? however comparing apple to rolex is like... comparing apple to oranges...

There's people in this thread calling it a failure and its rubbish, boring etc.

However, you can absolutely compare Apples and Oranges. They're both fruit. And Apples are better. :)

I don't own an Apple watch because I can't see myself spending $400 on a smartwatch or any watch that needs to be upgraded every 2-3 years, but it is the best smartwatch on the planet at this time and the ECG feature makes me want one since I have high blood pressure and would like a constant monitor. But being locked in the Apple ecosystem is another reason I never go overboard with getting all Apple products, I'll most likely go for the Omron heart monitor watch if I find myself in desperate need of one, right now it's just a want.

An entry level Rolex is $7000, an Apple watch is $400. That's like bragging that Mercedes outsold Bugatti.

Is like Captain Marvel and Brie Larson... forgettable. We never knew she won an Oscar, is like the stripper in the strip club everybody passes by and nobody notices it. Apple Watch is there. "Let's pretend" because someone with power from upper management likes it. If disappears, nobody will ever notice it.

You are out of touch with reality.

Yes but Swatch sells for under 100 dollars and is a big consumer brand in the watch industry.

I bought the first one at launch, and then upgraded to Series 2, then from that to the Series 4. Always stainless, because it just looks and feels so much nicer on the wrist.

I've enjoyed them all, but the Series 4 is the Apple Watch I always wanted and hoped for. All the prior generations (except for the 3) were too slow at more advanced tasks to be truly enjoyable. The Series 4, however, is never slow. For the most part, it does what I ask of it instantly or with a reasonably quick response time. It is a true computer on the wrist.

Looking forward to what is to come.

i see, i def disagree with that. however... oranges hold their value and like good wine only get better with time. they also cost a lot more per pound. :)
and while i do find this apple quite attractive, i'm so not willing to trade my orange for it)))

I definitely love my S4. I bought the S0 when it came out, but just couldn’t quite justify the $400 price tag at the time and returned it. Managed to get my hands on a badly scratched one for only $50 a few months later and wore it until I cracked and got the S4. Now I have some deep scratches on it and it makes me sad. Is there really no “liquid glass” or something like that to fill in these scratches so I don't have to be so sad every time I raise my wrist?

I think you can fill a scratch but it will still refract light at the interface between the materials.

My advice is to spring for a stainless watch with a sapphire display. Those are almost impossible to scratch. I've treated mine pretty harshly and it still looks brand new. The stainless body/strap does scratch, but can be polished.

I can’t believe it’s been four years already. I remember I was literally waiting for the pre-order to go live, as it was one of the most exciting products I was looking forward to from Apple, and it didn’t disappoint. It’s really interesting to see how the watch was once more of a notification device and how Apple has transitioned it to be about health more than anything today. If there was one product that Apple has in their lineup that has the brightest future, it’s undoubtedly the Apple Watch.

Oranges hold their value more. Do the oranges track fitness, heart rate, bluetooth to my headphones to play music, give me a GPS map on my wrist so I know whether to turn left or go straight on when I'm on my bike?

See the word value means different things. If we're talking purely financial, then the Orange wins. If we're talking "What does this add to your life", then I find it hard to argue that the Orange adds more to my life than the Apple. :)

that's exactly why i said that they are not good things to compare) rolex never claimed to be a smart watch, nor are they making a smartphone so this is kind of a one-sided comparison. oh and the tremendous price difference also adds to it. imho of course)

You mean like all the posters here who constantly tout the market share of $50-100 Android "feature" phones to the iPhone to somehow claim Android is winning?

I'm still rockin' my original space grey "Series 0" I got that first month they came out. I wear it every day. I may consider getting a new one this year... though the old one still works great. I love the product though, especially checking texts and being able to reject calls from my wrist, and very much miss it when I occasionally forget to charge it and have to leave it home on the charger in the morning.

You don't get out much to see just how many of these are out there in the wild, do you?

There are a LOT in the wild, at least in California where I live. They are especially popular with people in the medical or service industries, who can't often pull out their phones. I see many of them every single day. One thing that stands out is the very wide variety of colors, case materials, and straps that I see. Apple made a very wise move offering such a variety combined with very high quality of straps. People love this. And watch enthusiasts find their high-end straps appealing. Their milanese and link bracelets are as good or better than ones made by the Swiss.

Yep agree 100% The one thing that has surprised me though is the amount of service workers rocking one AirPod.

That is all cute to say, but none of it is true...

I like both! Apples give us delicious apple pie and oranges give use tasty marmalade!

Would you recommend upgrading from S2 to S4? My S2 is in great condition but some of the apps are so slow or they crash a lot. I went for a run with NRC and it hadn’t recorded half of my run and was so slow.

Since speed matters to you, you should ABSOLUTELY upgrade to the 4. I did the same, and the speed went from barely tolerable to quite impressive even a year after I bought the 4. The Series 4 effectively erases all concerns about processor speed. You'll no longer ever worry about using the watch for something out of fear it will lag. It's the best thing about the upgrade IMO.

Personally, I love the product. However, I have been underwhelmed by the AW3 and AW4. I am eagerly awaiting to see what big hardware advancements Apple can bring in AW5.

Sleep tracking, better health monitors, better battery life, significant speed upgrades? C'mon Apple, this is the year for a big splash.

I was skeptical and didn't get one until S3 but now I can't imagine not having one. Not having to get out my phone to check an incoming text still feels like such a luxury and I wish I could use Apple Pay with it everywhere. The biggest surprise were the stand alerts. I'm had no idea how long I was going without getting up when I'm working. The heart features are wonderful also.

I think it’s safe to say now that it’s been a flop. Not the needle mover that Apple had in mind. Just an accessory product that’s overpriced and people don’t need. I’m guessing it will go the way of the AirPort router pretty soon.
