I got scratches along the bottom. Pretty sure when I banged it into the wall accidentally. No big deal. It's bound to happen. No actual damage to the casing.

I guess I haven't really worn many SS watches. I was a Swatch freak for years. They are mostly plastic.

It just freaked me out to see the scratched, esp on the tip of the ML band, but now that I know that this is normal, I can accept it.

We buy an Apple product and we expect it to be perfect! ;)

None out of the box but I scratched it with my memorial bracelet while driving. But someone already created how to fix video and 9 to 5 Mac posted it - http://9to5mac.com/2015/04/26/apple-watch-fix-scratches/

Works perfectly!
Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish (as shown in that video) will in fact polish aluminum to a mirror finish, as well. I used it to polish the inside of a section of aluminum pipe for a lightsaber, last year. Great stuff!

The attached pictures show the pipe after cutting, and the other shows the same pipe, polished to a mirror finish (it's the emitter ring). Just sayin' ... ;)

But this is an interesting observation you've made about the handrest of your laptop. Depending on what model and what hand you wear your watch on, a spinning hard disk might be right under your wrist. So, will we have to endure CorruptedHardDiskGate?

I don't think so. Like I said, the magnet in the Milanese band is very well shielded to the outside. To illustrate this I used a normal medium-strength magnet from a hobby store and approached the band's magnetic clip both from the inside (where it hits the Milanese mesh) and the outside (where it would touch the Macbook etc).

On the inside my magnet will be attracted very strongly by the magnetic clip when held in one orientation, and strongly repelled when held the other way around. This is what you would expect when putting two magnets together.

On the outside of the magnetic clip, however, the hobby magnet will stick regardless of its orientation. It sticks just like it will stick to my fridge door. There is virtually no sign of the strong clip magnet to be felt on the outside of the clip.

Hence my observation that the clip magnet is encased in some very well shielding material (if that's not mu-metal, what is it called?). One commonly finds this sort of material inside of HDDs, where is used to mount the stepper motor magnet. Strong magnetic field on one side, none on the other.

I brought up the Macbook palm rest because it contains magnets and/or magnetic materials, too, which function as the latch for the display lid. If you approach this area with magnets they will stick firmly in certain spots and be repelled in others. Before receiving the watch I was worried that the Milanese band's magnetic clip might get stuck there during normal Macbook use. This worry now turned out to be unfounded, if at the cost of an easily scratched material for the clip...

Anyone seeing some scratching or slight imperfections on your ss apple watches? I mean on the stainless steel portion not the screen

Oh yea, the sides of my watch are already scuffed up pretty badly (not scratched or dented just normal stainless scuffing). Totally my doing as it was imperative I decorate my new watch with bangles and bracelets :). Have already ordered a stainless steel polishing cloth, but only for occasional use because this will be happening pretty frequently I'd guess.

SS scratching

I have 42mm SS milanese loop Apple Watch. Just noticed today that after only 4 days of wear, there are already scruffs on the stainless steel. I'm very careful so i have no idea where they came from. I can't stop staring at them. Anyone experiences scratches?

Magnetic connector on my Milanese loop is already well scratched up. I can also see some minor scratches on the body of my stainless steel watch.

I've got a scratch on the top of mine, right in the centre no idea how it happened, none anywhere else!! Keeps catching the light now!! So annoying I know it's going to happen but have been so careful! Only 5 days in :-(
Ordered a polishing cloth so hopefully get it looking good again soon!

Ordered a spigen gel case too, which I'm going to use when at work, to minimise the scratches!

There are some scuffs/imperfections on my 38 SS out of the box. I know these can be buffed out, but I am returning the watch anyways, size is too small.

Ok forget the watch, what is/was your involvement with the light saber?

Yes, I got my first one today. Accidently hit door. Scratch only on SS, nothing on face. Scratch 1 of many. Acceptance is key...;)

SS Scratches Thread

It's inevitable that all SS owners (including myself) have experienced scratches on our device over the past couple of days. I wanted to get some general feedback and opinions from owners: do you mind? have some of you returned it? polished it?

I'm bothered and kinda disappointed at how easy it was to scratch considering the price. The Sapphire Crystal though is impressive. I guess between the Sport and SS you have to choose what you are willing to scratch.

Just take a file and give it a brushed metal look. Scratches will no longer be visible. #

Let it scratch and leave it be. Polish it once when you are ready to resell. However even unpolished, it should resell the same. SS looks awesome once it is evenly scratched and you can no longer distinguish new scratches.

Wow! scratches, who would have guessed.... back in many other threads when I said I was going to get a case for my sport some people pretty much called me stupid. now I see threads about scratched cases, crystals, and etc. maybe it isn't so stupid to think of some sort of protection. I am still just as dumb and will get a case, because to me scratches are not character, they are scratches

I'm right there with you Cam... I ALWAYS buy protective gear for all my portable devices! Even before I get the product. I already bought screen protectors and a clear guard for the body of the watch. If these products are any good, they'll barely be noticeable. I don't care what anyone says! I won't be crying/complaining about any kind of damage to my watch! I know me, any kind of scratch big or small would make me CRAZY! I too would cry/complain (more like cry...LOL). Not taking that chance! Not to mention, I always sell my previous versions when upgrading and I want to sell a product that is as perfect as possible! So let them hate while we laugh as they cry/complain about their scratches for those who think it's stupid to protect your watch!

These threads are very curious to me. Have you folks never encountered polished metal? Surely at some point you've had some item made of polished aluminum, stainless, gold, brass, etc.? Things you care about you might polish and when held up to light you'll see light swirl marks even though the item gleams.

Buying a SS watch, scratching it up, and returning it seems just a bit immature. Does the watch otherwise work as expected? Well let go of the unrealistic expectation that an item you wear doesn't become worn and just enjoy it.
