Must be a fake: no way Apple is going to use user-replaceable batteries anymore

You know, along that argument- I heard that even windows 7 phone was not allowing user replaceable batteries as part of its specs. Is this true?

Edit- nm- that was an April fools joke- my bad! :)

Relax everyone. The new iPhone will look exactly like the previous one and like the one before. It will have more little wholes in it, but otherwise it will look the same. Why? I think you know why...

Why?

I mean, seriously- I don't know. And now it's driving me nuts! :D

It's ugly if that's really it

I don't like the design. The seals that supposedly are there for the removable battery destroy the design. Did I say destroy I meant completely annihilate it.
If this comes from the same man who designed the iPad, I'm guessing he was very ill.
I think the current 3G/GS looks a little cheap with the black/white plastic. And that butt ugly chrome edge.
But just look at the buttons, thats more sony ericsson, than it is Apple.
I'm sorry Johnny if thats the best you can come up with its back to school for you.

Interesting. I've never heard of Hoving or the term "fakebuster." I'll definitely have to look into it.

FWIW, I should clarify that I'm not claiming I'm right or wrong. I'm just saying what my gut instinct is and explaining why I'm comfortable with that. The weakness in my argument is that I'm in no way as familiar with Apple's aesthetic as I am with some of the artists whose work I admire, so in this case my instinct could be way off. But for now, I remain unconvinced by these photos.

F For Fake...

Google it, watch it.

Btw, I think it is real, rough prototype, but real. I could be wrong. if real you will magically like the design in a year...;)

Am I the only one who DOESN'T want a user-replaceable battery? I feel like it will affect the phone's design in a bad way.

no i feel the same way. i remember on all my old phones the battery cover would usually eventually break and would slide off the phone really easily which was pretty annoying. i feel like apple wont make a removable battery, i mean, they just eliminated it on their laptops.

You don't need to see these fake iPhones
We don't need to see these fake iPhones

These aren't the iPhones you're looking for,
These aren't the iPhones we're looking for,

He can go about his business
You can go about your business

Move along...
Move along.. Move along..

I like this! Change is good. I had the first gen iPhone which I loved. Now I have the 3gs and I think the design is poor. The plastic cracks and scratches too easily. I see no sign of a flash on this new phone?

Will you two talking about apple shares grow up. No one cares

i like the idea of a phone that is entirely glass and ceramic. i feel like it would look cooler if we dropped our phones and the entire thing shattered to pieces instead of just the screen. i hope the figure out a way to make the internal components more easily breakable too!

With a sapphire back, I imagine they could put the camera and the flash behind a transparent coating or something.

We care about the apple stock!

Wow. For nine pages people have been talking about a user-removable battery, even though it clearly states in the news post that this was just a guess by a commenter at Engadget. Someone saw a pinhole and took a shot in the dark as to what it was for. I don't see Apple allowing users to replace their own battery.

Moving on from that, what's so hard to understand about a prototype enclosure? That should be pretty typical, right? All the pretty, visually-appealing aspects of the hardware probably get saved for the very end. You don't need a fancy unibody case to test a phone. This is probably a rough version that was made in-house (hence the seams) just for testing purposes. How old is that leaked image of the iPad with the iPhone sitting on top of it? You cannot assume that this prototype is recent just because the leaked pictures are new. If it's the same prototype that you see in the iPad picture, isn't it safe to assume that the prototype has been around for at least a few months? Apple could have changed a lot since then.

I think you'll eventually end up with a phone that resembles the iPad. I don't own one yet, but looking at pictures from Apple's site, iPad shows the same type of aluminum bezel around the edge of the device with the same speaker holes as this iPhone prototype. I'm sure the back will be a different material in order to allow for phone signal to pass through it. Otherwise, it just has a more square, industrial look which I think is nice.

I do think it's funny that everyone hated the plastic 3G case when its pictures leaked, but now people are upset that Apple may be taking it away. :D I have a 3GS and I hate the plastic casing. I think it made the phone look and feel cheap. I would love to see them go back to something a bit more sleek and sturdy. If the new phone has a seamless bezel with a cool new glass or ceramic back, I'll be thrilled.

I have never, in any of my phones, felt the need to have a removable battery. I don't really see the big deal about it. But hey, people want different things out of their phones.

I want to believe!

I don't give a flying feck what it ends up looking like if the rumored specs are true!

Form goes hand in hand with function. Personally i dont think the 3GS looks all that awesome when it's turned off.. Not much better than some other handsets.

Once we know what this thing is capable of and what it's OS looks like.. And once we've seen it photographed properly - then we'll be able to decide if it's ugly or not.

Fake or real, its impossible to tell if this is an ugly device imo. It's different for sure.. I agree big round buttons do seem odd, volume rocker would likely replace those.. Maybe they have different functions depending on the app though.. Trigger for the camera app etc, volume when in ipod controls.. Would save them having to add *more* buttons whilst improving usability of secondary features.

They need to compete with competitors. It is only logical for their phone where the environment is much more hostile compared to mp3 players or computers for them to skimp on design for audience.
????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????

Find it hilarious all those who don't want a replaceable battery. The battery on the iphone is my only complaint. It is like they want it to have less features and only work for 12hours without a charge or give Apple even more money every year.
Most people are going to change their phone before the battery won't be able to hold a charge anyway like it did when it was brand new. And if you do keep the phone past the point the battery starts to sucks at holding a charge, then take the freaking thing to ifixit.
Case closed.
