I don't want a stupid removable battery. How hard is it to buy a portable charger or find a wall to charge for a few minutes? I don't know about anyone else, but my iPhone charges really quickly.

design > removable battery.

Am I the only one who DOESN'T want a user-replaceable battery? I feel like it will affect the phone's design in a bad way.

Apple would only design the device this way if they thought the removable battery wouldn't hurt the design. They also effectively hid the sim card slot. I'm really digging the new volume buttons. If the rumors are right, the backing is actually cubic zirconium instead of glass. It may get most of its structural strength from that material.

I believed Engadget btw. It did look like something Apple would make to me. Glad to see that this may be the next phone. I'm definitely getting an upgrade when it comes out. It would be interesting to find out if it has the rumored HD display though.

I really find the circumstances interesting though. I wonder if they accidentally lost it doing field tests. You would think with GPS tracking they would be pounding on someones door... I wonder if they remote wiped it or if it locks up if it doesn't check in once a day.

As much as I like the higher quality materials the design is a huge step backwards in terms of ergonomics, and uniqueness. I feel the same way about the ipads design. Im not sure why they didint just match the iphone 3g for the 1st gen ipad.

No, not the time for that.

Frankly, I think you're a bit daft in even suggesting it.

A bit daft? Yeah that makes sense for you to say that. Considering the fact that you have no reference for anything you are saying.

With Apple, yes. When was the last time they brought out an ugly device?

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder (just read the threads about these pictures). I think the design is nice and would pick one up immediately to replace my 3G.

Yea, geez! My original iphone's battery is 2-1/2 yours old and..... it still works fine and I get at least one day of use. I charge it every night....

I see a removable battery as a source for trouble...

I'm calling bullhonkey.

A user-replaceable battery should be enough to debunk this. Exterior design could only be a prototype because Apple would never have a big, honking seam next to the headphone jack.

Can't believe there's this much discussion about a pretty weak piece of vapornews.

You can't really criticize specific aspects of a prototype like that.

It may also be easier to blow the dust out. I think they may also be using the opening to stuff the guts in. I have a feeling the top and bottom contribute more to the structure now.

Go read the effin' SEC filings.

Apple does not announce new products during financial conference calls.

DEAL WITH IT.

Go listen to an effin' earnings broadcast.

Steve Jobs and others on the conference call have referenced upcoming products and it would not be too much of a stretch for there to be a first time where they gave some information about an upcoming product in an earnings call.

DEAL WITH IT.

Did you purposely choose a picture of someone with fake breasts to make a point? ;-)

If this is really a prototype, it could look a hell of a lot worse than it does.

You should see how hideous the prototypes are of the products we design. The pretty molded forms only come about in the last stage of development.

That's the whole point of having an in-house machine shop.

Still, I don't see apple suddenly endorsing SD cards and removable batteries, considering how adverse they are to the idea in every other product in their line. ...including the iPhone.

Find it hilarious all those who don't want a replaceable battery. The battery on the iphone is my only complaint. It is like they want it to have less features and only work for 12hours without a charge or give Apple even more money every year.

They have not said anything more than "we have some great things coming up."

I'm a shareholder, I see the way the stock fluctuates before, during, and after the earnings announcement. AAPL typically dips after the earnings conf call. It does not dip after a product announcement.

You don't own AAPL shares. Feel free to be bitter as hell. I've been laughing all the way to the bank the past five years.

You guys keep saying how ugly it is, but you never really note why. Apart from the seams, why does it burn your eyes into crispy, shriveled, black balls?

There is absolutely no flow to the entire device. The sides are very square, and it makes the device look like a brick. The buttons on the side are much more obtrusive than the volume rocker/silent switch are now.

Nothing about that device says seemless/flowing/clean/elegant. It doesn't resemble any sort of device Apple would make.

So, there's our side. What's yours? Why does this look so great?
