I will be buying it. Regardless of whether I like it. I must... I must....

Wait- what's that Sprint EVO thing I keep hearing about? The one that let's you tether 8 devices to 4g? Hm......

This was an Apple product (Titanium Powerbook).

Look: a "gaudy, circular button"!

Actually, the whole design of this iPhone prototype reminds me of the Titanium Powerbook, which is in my opinion a good thing. I think it fits perfectly with Apple's minimalist approach to design.

I think that the curved chrome bezel and back of the current iPhone is a tired design. I like it, but it's soooo 2008 :)

Let me rephrase; it isnt something i would expect to see on a NEW apple product. Besides, that button doesnt look out of place on something as big as a notebook. On an iPhone, it would be an iSore. At least it would be in my opinion. Apple seems to (currently) like to downplay the appearance of buttons...but hey, what do i know? Im not sj

I agree. Apple should either go back to metal or do something brand new, like this glass/ceramic idea.

A surface which could allow for some sort of control surface might also point to it being something other than plastic. There were rumours circulating that the rear of the phone would have some sort of multitouch capacity..
Seriously......... come on the only reason it would have a back like that is so it wont scratch like the old plastic back. the same scratch resist material on the Ipad. Like I said in my last post apple doesn't care if you drop it and it breaks that is why you can not get insurance on this phone.

The user removable battery is what really pushes me to not believe the hype... The guts may be legit, and even the look - but any thought of user removable replaceable battery is comical...

so are many of the posts here, but I 'degrease'... I mean digress... :p

Totally agree, I don't think there is any way they would add a user replaceable battery now

I sometimes wonder if there are folks at Apple that just make these things up and fabricate fake devices just to mess with all of us. If they are the ones doing it... Kudos for being such a well rounded prick to the rest of us! :D

I'm really liking this design. Better screen, better camera with flash, front facing camera, removable battery (hopefully), probably better battery life, and a tough, industrial design that wont scratch like the glossy plastic screen scratches. I can't wait to see the finished product!

I'd hate to be the Apple employee to left it at the bar. Then I'd hate to be the boss that tried to pass a little disinformation to say it was a rip-off copy. I bet we see a couple job postings at Apple for iPhone tester and test manager.... :)

Doubtful. Anyone who is actually walking around with a 4th gen. iPhone two months before introduction is probably so far up the food chain that she/he has little to fear.

Doesn't matter. I still don't buy that this is the real deal. I don't know why but I'm having a hard time believing this is what the next iPhone will look like. Just a gut feeling.

I think it's a real PROTOTYPE. It makes absolutely no sense to have the back come off and not have the SIM access back there as well. So I suspect the back comes off for the purposes testing/modification back at Apple. I also think there's no way in hell Apple would force you to expose the entire inside just to remove the battery.

BAM! https://www.macrumors.com/2007/05/10/patent-multisided-and-touch-screen-ipod/

Back-side touch. Glass back on the new iPhone? The Macbook line has glass trackpads. Gestures on the back? Sure, I guess. Could be neat and push what is currently possible. I don't know of another phone that can do that.

Pixel doubling on iPad? iPhone apps on 960x640 screen. Gruber said it's coming, and that's the size they are when pixel doubled. Would LOOK a lot nicer on the iPad.

The final version of this will have rounded edges. Sharp edges just don't feel well in the hand. This is a prototype showing the direction they are going in. The magic mouse has a rounded top with touch support, so could an iPhone on the back.

Also--why has nobody torn this thing open to see what kind of hardware it's sporting? Though I doubt that parts are labeled with anything other than internal test numbers. Need iFixIt to investigate.

Finally, if Apple does put in a removable battery (unlikely), then that just shows that they are getting really serious about this thing taking over the world. Business users, in particular, would love this thing. Well, everyone would, but they would love it much more than they used to.

Your signature, "A synanym is a word you use in place of a word you can't spell."

I just want to say I hope you meant to misspell the word synonym, because otherwise it looks as though you should find a synonym for synanym lol.

Finally someone here is smart.

Why would that be there, unless to function as a track/glass pad like magic mouse, but then that defats purpose of touch screen kinda.

Whoa- I think that would be awesome. It doesn't really defeat the purpose of the touch screen though- it just gives people another option- like when they are showing people pictures on it, or scrolling through web pages. This could be really really cool- to be able to scroll by moving your fingers on the back- actually, they could just duplicate all multitouch gestures on the back.

Wow- that could be really really cool. I just sincerely hope the screen is bigger physically as well as being a higher resolution- like an even 4"- it would not be that hard- just add .25" to each corner diagonally.

I love leaks like this... assuming it's all accurate, which it seems more than likely to be.

I don't remember such detailed leaks since the days of ThinkSecret.

It wouldn't be funny without a spelling misteak error.

You guys keep saying how ugly it is, but you never really note why. Apart from the seams, why does it burn your eyes into crispy, shriveled, black balls?

I'm assuming many users here on MacRumors have worked in graphic design or publishing as I have and I can probably speak for many of them in saying that it's not always something you can put into words. It's the gestalt of the object, the total effect of its look, something you sense but can't necessarily put into words. I could probably stare at this thing for the next 24 hours and come up with some esoteric nitpicks, but that would just be scratching the surface and would be far from definitive.

Since I was a kid, I've had an obsession with the work of Charles M. Schulz and have come to recognize his work versus imitations. I can pick up on lots of tiny visual cues almost unconsciously that tell me whether the drawing I'm seeing came from Schulz himself or from someone else. I can sense that but I couldn't put it into words. You can see it when the Peanuts characters show up in marketing materials or commercials or the animated cartoons. Sometimes it's Schulz' work, sometimes not.

It's kind of like that. I look at this and get the sense that it's someone trying their hardest to achieve that Apple gestalt, but it's just not there--not for me at least. So without any real reason that I can verbalize, I'm leaning toward disbelieving it.

So if this is a missing prototype, why didn't Apple use the MobileMe "Find my iPhone" to get it back? Or did they remote wipe and that explains the OS disappearing?

It seems pretty indisputable that this device is at least a prototype. The iPad image confirms that people with early access to apple devices had access to this thing.

Some thoughts (I'm sure someone has mentioned these):
- The pushpin hole next to the headphone port is the same on the iPad.
- The squared side is similar to the ipad's
- The speaker seems to be more like the iPad's than the 3GS's

Jury's out on the seams, but otherwise I think the new design would bring it more in line with the look of Apple's other products like the ipad and the MBP.
