Battery life on 13 pro max is great if your streaming or listening to music it goes even further than you would expect
 job well done ??

The concern long term that I'd have is that the Pro Max is rarely going to get below maybe 80%, and often not below 90% and is constantly going to charge to 100% when used with CarPlay, so you can't really do 20-80 charging with it. Granted, you could lose half the design capacity of the battery and it would still be perfectly usable.

This is of course a non-NYC American perspective on it where everything is designed around cars, so we're constantly driving everywhere and using a phone to navigate.

Is this good ?

From what I’ve read, and my practices. There isn’t any need to charger to 80. The battery’s nowadays are different. I’ve never had any battery issues in the past, nor has the degradation of battery capacity been any different than it was when I first got it. Just my opinion, but I’ve done a lot of research on it. Someone enlighten me if I’m wrong?

Here’s mine. Down to 47%. Almost 10 hours in. Been streaming YouTube, movies, Apple Watch connected all day and more! Not bad for the regular 13. I am a very high user. Games like call of duty and pubg usually. I watch YouTube and stream music all day while at work as well on 5G. I love the battery and can only imagine what it’s like on the pro. Oh, no battery saving settings either. Locations to everything on, background stuff on and more. I didn’t change anything to save on battery.

Last charge 3:17 pm and it’s now 1am. 47% remaining.
It looks like you had 4 hrs 18 mins, 43% battery used. Estimate to 100% battery usage, 10 hrs. That is fantastic for the rgular 13.

It looks lime uoui had a big drop in battery from 8pm to 12am. What apps were you using at that time? You also had dome heavy background usage that seemed to be a big battery drain. Are you using an ad blocker in Safari? An ad baker can give better battery life and keep the phone from getting hot during browsing.

You are probably right. But in the case of the 13 Pro Max, I still get insane battery life even though I charge to 80%. There will be times, like using CarPlay, when you can't really control how much you charge. But in that case you are also using battery so it is not a standby case where you are having the battery on the charger and not using it.

I also only use a 12 watt or 5 watt charger, because I want to keep the phone as cool as possible. Maybe not necessary but I do it out of habit. The other thing, I use a smart plug and the phone will shut off power to the charger when it reaches 80% and then put the phone in low power mode for standby until I start using the phone again.

I mean, anybody can charge their device however they see fit. It’s a free world. I was just confused as to why people still do it. Whatever is best for your routine though is all that counts. I usually just plug mine in at night and unplug it when I wake up. I do use the option that apples baked in that doesn’t let it finish until the projected time you will wake up. But other than that I just charge it until I wake using the 20 watt brick. Maybe at night though I should use the slow charger. And only use the 20 watt brick when I need emergency charges. Which as of now is never since I got the 13 lol

Here’s a pic of my battery stats. I last charged it around 3pm to 76 percent. And it’s midnight and I have 22% left. On 5G the entire night. Not too bad. I think 15.2 is a bit harder on the battery than 15.1. But still getting good life considering how much I stream and game

It looks like you are getting about 6 hrs on a full charge on 5G vs. about 10 hrs on WiFi.

Yeah I get a lot more on Wi-Fi than 5G. Hopefully the modem updates in 15.2 help it a bit but
I’m very happy. Some days I get close to 15 hours on a full charge. And this is all while playing games watching YouTube and streaming music. It ain’t too bad of a battery. Not once have I been stranded with a dead phone. Or even had to worry about my battery like I have in the past. It’s kind of nice. I can only imagine the 13 pro or max battery life.

Battery life is incredible.

10 hours screen on time, with slightly less than 50% battery left. This is on wifi.

Took off the charger when I woke up in the morning, lasted till 3 a.m. with almost half battery life left!

Any particular settings you are using? This is much more screen time than I get on my Pro Max

Today, I managed about 5.5 hours of gaming across 5 different games(the bulk of the time was spend on Anima, a D3 ARPG look alike) and a total of 9 hours and 40 mins of mixed usage.

I used low power mode when gaming to test out what I am reading in reviews.

Which can be summarised as little to no noticeable performance hit in most games, while greatly reducing both battery consumption and heat generation.

Was left with 36% of battery life on the iPhone could have pushed on with my gaming Marathon but physically I am drained, need to head to bed.

Is this the review? Apple Silcon is amazing.

The manufacturers have been getting better at mitigating the effects of fully charging Li-on batteries, which do not want to be charged to 100%, as they wear 5x faster than when charged to 80%, but I know a few years back Samsung put in some buffer, so that 100% on the phone is really 85-90%, and there may have been other technological changes to the materials in the batteries to make them last longer. However, the actual effect of wearing Li-on batteries more quickly by fully charging and discharging is inherent to Li-on technology.

Then again, with the 13 Pro Max, you could lose half the capacity and it would still have good battery life.

How do you actually do that? I've always thought that would be a great idea, but I don't know of a way to read out the battery percentage into something like ITTT. Once you're there, it's easy to just shut off AC power to the charger and not restore it until the phone is removed from it.

Based on my research, charging beyond 80% is a lot worse than fast charging, so I fast charge so that I can more easily take the phone off before it fully charges, but if you can automate it, you could leave it on a 5W charger overnight, and turn the charger off at 80%, doing the best of both worlds.

There's still the issue of CarPlay though, as with the 13 Pro Max, unless you basically never drive, or have a really short commute, you'll end up overcharging the phone fairly frequently and probably never needing to charging it outside of your car.

I also find it funny that people are all hung up on SoT, which is basically irrelevant, with massive SoT numbers from the honeymoon phase of playing with a new phone. Where the iPhone has a huge advantage is standby drain. Android phones lose a lot more on standby, which for a normal user is a significant chunk of the power actually using the phone. I have a "good" standby drain on my Note 9 now (which I switched back to after returning the 13 Pro Max) of 0.7% per hour, so I lose about 15% of my battery per day doing... nothing.

Interestingly for real-world use, for the few days I had the 13 Pro Max, it didn't seem to drain much faster when in a weak signal area. The thing is such a beast and so efficient at standby drain that having weak service almost all weekend didn't really seem to affect it in a noticeable way, which is huge, considering how many areas still have one bar of service, or where service pops in and out.

While I was extremely disappointed in iOS's overall UI and the fonts, scaling, and sizing that's all sorts of messed up, the battery and RF performance was amazing, and far better than any other smartphone I've ever seen or used. It's pretty wild to use the phone all day and it's dropped around 10% when you're used to phones dropping 30-50% in that amount of time.

I bought the Wemo HomeKit compatible smart plug. It plugs into the power outlet and I plug my 12 watt charge into the Wemo. You sync it to the Home app. I created a Shortcuts automation script that runs automatically when the battery reaches 80%:

When battery level is 80%
Run Smart Plug Off
Turn Low Power Mode On
When I want to charge my phone, I plug the USB to lightning cable into the 12-watt charger. I can turn on the smart plug several different ways. I can have Siri do it. I can manually press the on/off button on the smart plug. Or I can run a Shortcut I created to turn on the smart plug. The cool thing about this is I can have it charge while I sleep and it will automatically cut the power to the charger and then put the phone in low power mode while in standby. In the morning I turn off low power mode. The phone never sits on the charger longer then needed.

There's still the issue of CarPlay though, as with the 13 Pro Max, unless you basically never drive, or have a really short commute, you'll end up overcharging the phone fairly frequently and probably never needing to charging it outside of your car.
When I am using CarPlay I have to use wired CarPlay so the phone will get charged. But it will also be using the battery so it is not exactly the same as leaving it on the charger and not being used. There isn't much I can do about it if the phone reaches 100% charge. It does not happen that often. So I'm not too concerned about it.

I like to keep track of my battery life and I like sharing my experience with my phone with others. It is kind of nice seeing how others battery life is for them. I also learn things about how I might get even better battery life. You can't have too much battery life. I also like to make sure that I am doing what I can to make sure that I take good care of my phone. I also think it is kind of fun to try and see how much battery life I can get out of a 80% to 20% charge.

Not sure if you are aware of this but the iPhone 13 in low power mode, iOS shuts down the 2 performance cores in the A15 and down clocks the 4 efficiency cores from 1.83 GHz to 1.37 GHz. In low power mode the A15 only uses around 3 watts of power. The A15 is a beast of a processor even in low power mode.

My 13 Pro Max has had insane bonkers battery life. I love that I can watch videos and the ProMotion display will match the frame rate of the video to save battery life.

Huh, that's really clever, I did not know that you could do that. That's a really smart solution.

With the Pro Max, you can see how much charge you still have at the end of the day, likely well above 20%.

Yeah, it's pretty incredible. I wish the rest of the device had worked out for me, as the battery life is insane.

Same here. We’re “old skool”charge to around 80 although I was naughty last night and charged to 87%. Currently at 43% charge level with over 7 hours of SOT used.

I am really jealous when I see all of your battery life on the 13PM.

Mine is not nearly as good … for example, at the moment I do have 68% battery left with 1 hour and 6 min SOT within the last 24 hours.
It was charged to 100% on Saturday at 11:51 am and I was not really using it this weekend and during the night I always have flight mode on.

Sometimes I can really see the percentage drop within minutes.

In general this whole battery level thing seems to behave very strange on my phone. The SOT often changes during the day and for example suddenly one hour is missing.

Post a battery usage include the apps with “SHOW ACTIVITY” selected so that the app times are displayed.

What iOS version are you using? Are all your app updated?
