Either someone's fibbin', there's a bigger reworking of the iPod line, or Walmart screwed up. My local story has tags out for an iPod 30GB 6th gen for $249 and change.

Nope...that's a screw up on Wal-marts part. I've been to like three different wal-marts, and they all have the 5.5G and the 5G marked as 6G...don't know why.

And it's been that way for quite a while.

even if apple kept the scroll they arnt keepin the 30gig, and if they have a touch screen its going to be more than 249 so

its probably a typo refering to the 5.5 gen

and can you tell us this:

When someone sees what you have from afar, will they know its an ipod right away (at least until alot of people have seen them)

or when someone sees this new product will they not know what it is?

(does the new ipod look like the others? click wheel below screen)

Well... hmmm... Nano possibality.. Don? Any thing? :apple:

I camera phoned the tag, it'll take a few minutes to sync the phone, haven't done that in about a month, so it must update the calendar and such. I'll upload the pic in a few...

Ah. Then I won't upload said photo. Save y'all the bandwidth.

he already said 4" touchscreen, why would they put a scrollwheel under the touchscreen?

Is that a 6th gen iPod in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me (4" plus 2 for the wheel == huge!)

a lot of stores do screwy things with ipods, i saw on amazon yesterday an 80gig black ipod for 399, while the 80gig white was 349.

just doesnt make sense.

and when they updated the video ipod, amazon was selling the old ones for the same price as the new ones, they were both on their website. I emailed them and they gave me a ******** response about how it was probably a manufaturer discount and that amazon wasnt participating? wtf?

Hahaha! Someone please make a mockup of that! Make the device shaped like a large chocolate bar, with a 4" screen on one end, and a click wheel on the other. :D:D:D:D:D

OK TELL US THIS THEN! are they shipping to best buy, apple stores, etc, on wednesday, or are they already shipping and they cent sell them until wednesday...

let me rewrod this if you dont get it,
can we get it it wed/thurs or will we have to wait until monday or tuesday?

I don't know. But if I had to guess, i'd say that Apple is pre-shipping iPods to all the stores, because this is a monumental release!

It reminds me of the second video on this when Steve introduces smaller and smaller iPods until you cant even see the iPod!:D http://youtube.com/watch?v=Xx7vc0xdQrg

It holds two billion songs, two billion songs, billion, with a b. lol! It holds over 150 ka-billion contacts. lol. How much battery life does it have? - 20 Minutes. lol. Ladies and Gentlemen... the iPod Micro. lmao! The iPod Picano. It holds a million songs, a million songs! iCal that goes 7,000 years into the future. lol. The new iPod Invisi. It holds over 8 million songs. oops, I dropped it. Where is it, It's floating! Gotta love youtube! :apple:

That's my guess. I finally got the bread together for an iPod and 7 stores had 0 30GB iPods. I got online and googled "iPod Rumors" since Apple's done stuff like short supply an old product before. Low and behold, new one's are coming. Who here, if there was no "an iPod announcement is coming" rumors, who happened to see Steve on the news that night wouldn't immediately run to their favorite retailer? I'd be at BestBuy before my wife could ask what was wrong.

God, remind me to wear pants if I'm watching the news.

Looking forward to Wed. announcements.

If it's really a new nano and a new iPod, I think I'll have to pick up a new replacement for my 5G, so long as the storage is at least 40gb.

I like my 2G nano and don't really have a need for a new one, but that won't stop me from lusting after one.

But, here's a new idea, a new iPod with capability to use EDGE. Stay with me, if you could acess EDGE then you would only have to pay 20 bucks, that would be cool.

I was thinking something similar. Sounds pretty decent to me. But it would have to be an option.

As for the new iPod, Wednesday's not too far away is it?

Well, I have no idea...

I was wondering and was going to ask him if he was going to happen to be at the event. Also, what do you people think of the Beatles being on iTunes? I think it would be cool. (And studies have shown it would be the top ten songs on iTunes)

Does anyone remember when Steve introduced the Macintosh? Right after the Mac finished talking, the crowd was cheering, and Steve was doing all he could to stop himself from hopping around the stage and shrieking with joy.

That's how he's gonna be on the 5th. :D:p

Haha, now you're just over hyping wednesday. That original macintosh introduction was phenomenal...

...according to Don(no offense) he says that sept. 5 was referring to apples homepage wayyy back saying "30 years were just the beginning welcome to 2007" and he said that this event will be like the 1984 mac intro. when steve had a 5 minute applause. so according to don....this WOW FACTOR is going to be HUGE come this wed.....we'll see soon enough....:D

Maybe it will have a speech recognition input? Or how about speech to text note-taking, anyone?

Realistically, how about...

-Tactile remote (like the shuffle)
-iTunes Store Mobile
-Karaoke-style lyric display
-Ability to combine capacities /stream nearby iPods.
-Wireless headhones
-"Smarter" shuffle
-Crossfade playback
-eBook reader (widespread school use=ubiquitous presence, industry control)
-Touchscreen controls (that is no rim-based gestures like the patent)
-Use of ambient recording patent
-iTunes community tracking play counts, recommendations

Oh, and the home button will provide a contrasting iconic look (instead of the iPhone's square).

In conclusion, a squarish 4" screen form factor (reduced top and bottom margins) and $400-500 price tag is what makes Apple so sure about not stealing the iPhone's thunder. It makes no sense to release a product so similar to the iPhone to replace a cultural icon and confusing the rest of the world.

Ladies and gentlemen, this new iPod is coming. Its early RTM commotion is probably what caused our favorite analyst, Shaw Wu to lose his job by assuming it was the iPhone Nano. ;)

iPod: The 2007 Handicap

16GB iPod nano. Odds = Sure Thing - Creative just introduced two 16GB flash units. Apple will follow.

Multi-touch Widescreen Display with Glass Protection. Odds = 9:5 - Now that it's available on the iPhone the full sized iPod will adopt it too. Will the new iPod look like the iPhone sans phone? Quite probably as Apple likes a uniform look on its product's.

WiFi and Bluetooth 2.0+EDR. Odds = 9:5 - The iPhone has it so it makes sense that the top end iPod will have it too. This will ignite a wave of new bluetooth peripherals for the iPod/iPhone.

iPhone Interface = 9:5 - The navigation on the iPhone just seems like a natural evolution for the iPod line.

iPod with OS X. Odds = 2:1 - You don't need OS X to run WiFi or Bluetooth, but if the code is already written for OS X why write it again?

Safari for iPod = 2:1 - If the new iPods have OS X and WiFi it will have Safari for Net access.

iPod with 160GB drive. Odds = 3:1 - Samsung introduced the Spinpoint N2 160GB 1.8" drive last month. Chances are very good it is going into the next version of the iPod

Story

So here is what can happen , iPod with the following specs:

4" inch screen, (bigger than iPhone) multi touch interface like iPhone, Wi Fi and Bluetooth with a 160 GB drive and it looked something like this:

Who would not want that?

I personally like being surprised. Apple is usually good at this. I'm glad nothing too revealing seems to have leaked yet. Then again it's kind of hard to tell.

Some people want to opening Christmas presents on the 23rd, and then wondering why the 25th isn't fun.

don, in your opinion will you be able to get a "wow" touch for under $499?

don was banned, look under his name in his posts.

Isn't anybody willing to wait... I personally have my money in-hand and am sitting in front of a large clock, watching each second go by. I am making thousands of iPod touch mockups in my head. They all look so cool.

Check out the final reader comment by 'caldini' on the arstechnica item about Axiotron's Modbook delayed due to parts shortages:

caldini
There's a parts shortage because all the parts are being bought by Apple to make a multi-touch tabletMac due to be announced on the first Tuesday in September.

Comment made back in July, and only one day off the mark. I'm impressed. And expecting more than just an ipod now. ;)
