Perhaps the new iPod will use Kleer instead of Bluetooth for wireless headphones.

Why it could be:
1. They moved to Cupertino. (this is where Apple is)
2. Apple has said Bluetooth means both the iPod and headphones would have to be recharged regularly
3. Kleer gives 10x the battery life of Bluetooth.
4. Kleer has been suspiciously quiet with press releases this year.
5. Kleer is lossless transmission.
6. The only other device with it is http://www.rcajetstream.com/
And look when it ships!

Look at that cheesy video, thats why I would hate to live in LA!

i think that the beat goes on, is just a reference to the ipod line continuing, and that the song played will be the jazz track by The Buddy Rich Big Band
'The Beat Goes On'

I could just see some little latin type figures (with those colours) dancing around the screen to that..

in other news, why would apple care about stealing iphone sales?

they will probably make more profit per ipod (cheaper and less components) than they will for the iphone?

(I could be wrong there) but if they sell an ipod at what $349 over there?
lets say they up it to $399.

ok i am wrong... lol

My two cents.

Apple is simple, sleek, and very genius. This update may very well be heavy on the software side.

My guess with the exception of the ever changing nano and shuffle, the iPod will remain relatively the same, the only innovation this time around will again be the click will. Instead of having the center button, the entire circle will be touch sensitive. This may easily allow for cover flow, for longer finger strokes and even room for two fingers if they have aloted a feature for that. Possibly one finger navigation and two fingers equal a button push. A tap at the upper portion of the circle highlights up one, and tap once on the lower half, highlights down one.

Whatever new features are in the update better come in my next software update for the iPhone.

If not, hell to payyyyy!

A friend if mine sendt me this image.. could it be it? Are the white headphones gone for good?

Thats a fake.

Very interested to see what Apple does with the line of products now and just how far into the iPhone featureset the new iPods will encroach. Hopefully a lot, because the iPod competitors are not sitting still.

It's been pointed out that the iPhone could make a PSP or Nintendo DS competitor if it wasn't so expensive. But with OS X iPods, Apple definitely has an affordable platform for light, portable gaming. I wonder what processor it'll use now that PortalPlayer has been bought by nVidia?

It can't beat my DS.

I think that for the top of the line ipod, Apple will enable wireless connectivity between ipod and iphone. This way when you have your ipod and iphone together you could browse the ipods higher capacity media library with your iphone.

Touch, Wireless, 8-16GB, Black/Silver, advanced BT stereo headphones.

Don't think so. The touch screen model will be the flag ship aka media device, and 8-16GB is far from enough to accommodate podcast, video pod casts, movies, music videos, pictures and music.

It will be hard drive based.

apparently, "the beat goes on" is the title of Madonna's upcoming song ...

*shrugs shoulders*

I am sooo damn excited about the new ipods =D
im for sure getting the full sized ipod(i have a 8gb nano),i will just get it without even knowing anything about it's features,
it will come in (80 and 120gb??) well anyway will they both have the same size??
im REALLY curious to know! if so then i would buy the 120gb version.

September 5th, eh?

Well, that will roll round soon enough.

I doubt very much whether we will see anything that has the potential to canibalise iPhone sales. If there is wireless connectivity it will surely be limited to device pairing to facilitate iTunes content transfers. The most ambitious thing we'll see is the facility to utilise iPod and iPhone (w. firmware/software update) as a wireless remote for iTunes content across desktop and notebook macs and :apple:TV. I would love to see a fully tricked our OS X capable touchscreen iPod at the top-end of the product range but don't think this will happen.

When the news about the touchscreen iPhone tech first broke, I thought we'd be getting loads of cool stuff like stripped down versions of Garageband and iMovie tailored to take advantage of the new interface possibilities. No such luck.

Look at iPhone: I mean, really, what difference does it make if it's running OS X if you can't get to it.

BTW - I concur with the consensus about the new squat Nano. Not a design classic. Not by a long shot. Looks almost as bad as one of those old Creative Zen Micro's.

A friend if mine sendt me this image.. could it be it? Are the white headphones gone for good?

You know, I really do not understand why the iPhone came with WHITE headphones...the design is silver and black. I want a black headset!

Derwood's right - he generally is.

I'm living in Finland at the moment (that is in Europe - don't laugh, been asked before ;) ) but my home is Sydney Australia - my location is important for the point I am going to make - you guessed why I am sure.

The iPod is sold in exactly the same formats world wide, but no iPhone in either Euro nor Australiasia. I for one would plonk down $500US on a phoneless iphone i.e. a touch ipod with wi-fi etc etc

However, I would also do the same at this point for a iphone. There is no WAY in hell I will do it for BOTH. It is one or the other, and seeing I have a N73 as my phone if it IS the touch ipod with wi-fi they are delivering on the 5th - they have lost MY iphone money.

Think about it on a global scale - Europe/Australiasia is a big market for Apple - I don't know the figures but would be amazed if the market was not bigger than the US. If they release a wi-fi ipod now they would certainly canibalise iphone sales in these regions. No one would carry two devices that do the same thing, minus phone calls on one.

Half of me wants the wi-fi ipod, half of me dosen't - I want an iphone, but I also would love new wi-fi ipods on the 5th. I will be amazed if we see something like the iphone as an ipod prior to the global release of the iphone.

Respect

At first, I was turned off by that design of the iPod Nano, but when I saw it in Silver, I thought that it looked pretty cool. I think it was seeing Coverflow on it that did it for me. I also think that it is those rumored colors that suck. PLEASE STEVE be reading these forums and design your product accordingly. This is what the people want.

As for the standard iPod, I think that the mockup too closely resembles the iPhone. It is my opinion that Apple is going to want to keep those too devices very seperate. However, as always we may all be totally off as to what good Steve has in store (no pun intended) for us. He kinda has this way of blowing away Apple enthusiasts and the general public for that matter.

Beatles Tapes III: The 1964 World Tour

Track 15 - "September 5, 1964"

Anyone know the name of the song? where it was recorded?

I'm finally doing the education special thing - picking up an iMac, printer and 30GB iPod this week for the wife. Even if these new alleged iPods are eligible for the deal, it's not enough to make me wait a week in the hopes of getting the latest and greatest...

If the shrunken iPod is the new iPod, my wife doesn't like it. She'd rather have the current one. Can't really justify the cost of the rumored iPod touch either at this point. Maybe when the youngest kids are a little older. I'm sure my 17 year old will want one though...

If it is indeed the new Nano, I'll be picking up a refurb 2nd gen before they're all gone. My 1st gen has had enough!

And I don't see how a touchPod would cannibalize iPhone sales. It's like saying the Nano cannibalizes full-sized iPod sales, (it has nearly all the same features!!!), or the Shuffle cannibalizes Nano sales. Or the MacBook cannibalizes MBP sales.

Like many people, I'm not too fond of the iPod nano mockups. Perhaps these "nanos" will really replace the current iPod, while the current nanos will remain and the iPod touch will be introduced. (sorry if this has been suggested before)
