Like them or not having The Beatles or any other artist in the iTunes store is great. A day you'll never forget ? not likely. Way over hyped.

Honestly if anyone liked the Beatles as much as to purchase their songs on iTunes, they would have gotten the songs through other means way before now.

Does Apple honestly think they're the only place to get music?

Don't make the mistake of thinking that everyone thinks and acts exactly the same way that you do.

just saw some bits of the concert (free to watch). Man these girls went absolutely crazy. Everytime they announced a song, the whole audience made incredible high and loud noise.

I don't see why everyone is rating this as negative. The Beatles are arguably the finest band of all time, and now their catalog is available for even more people to discover. Some people must have been expecting the second coming of Jesus this morning. There's more to life than Apple rumors

Don't start acting all smart...telling me to look something up in a dictionary. Please!! Should I use APA format for it on my next post too, sir?

For one word? Please start making sense, it will assist you in life. Even when posting to internet forums.

*shrug*.

I think it's pretty nifty (but I'm not a huge Beatles fan but there are a few songs I like. Now I can just get those songs if I want). It's definitely not something I've been waiting for or that I was really upset I couldn't get before. And I'll admit it doesn't seem like something that warrants such hype, but you gotta realize it is marketing and they're just trying to get the word out. Probably for people like me who don't care that much but might buy a few songs if they knew it was available.

Though, I agree, if I was a huge beatles fan, I'd probably already just have them on CD and turn what I want into mp3 w/out waiting for itunes. But then again, I've stopped buying CDs entirely now (I tend to just buy songs now. But if I were to buy a whole album I'd buy the CD because then you have the physical copy and you can always make it into mp3s).

LAME!!!! Who cares?

Its a band from the 60's. I happen to like their music, but making a big production out of it just makes it pathetic.

Being someone that recognizes Apple's "over-hype" in many things they do and say, to be honest I don't see it here. It was stated as an iTunes announcement. They did NOT hold a live event nor take down the site. I think it's being played just about right. Finally bring the Beatles into the fold has been a long battle for Jobs and Company, so you can understand some fanfare for achieving that goal. The marketing significance of this is big, sales will be substantial so there being ads promoting their arrival to iTunes is expected.

I think most people recognize the significance for Apple, Jobs and to a lesser extent the consumer. But here in our little "Mac Bubble" we have those not only disappointed but upset over this announcement... for what? Because something they wanted wasn't released? What a bunch of whiners we've become, seriously. It's not as if Apple can't do more than one thing at a time. This is about the Beatles, that's it, great, congratulations to Steve and Apple for reaching that long-overdue goal.

As for those disappointed, your day will come soon, but today isn't it (or it could very well yet be). Simple as that. No need to crap on a good thing just because it's not what you were hoping for like a spoiled brat.

IMHO :)

This is the perfect reaction to this. I totally agree. This was way under the radar. All my friends who don't follow this day to day Mac stuff didn't even hear of it (until the NY Times article pasted last night). You have the rest of the year for new world changing products. They will sell a hell of alot of songs this holiday season. For the record books, the Beatles would have been the top selling artist of the last decade (they were slightly number 2 under Emenem) if they had started on iTunes last year . But then again they would have competed with their own CD remasters program which did very well thank you very much...

exactly! and if you are THAT big of a beatles fan you'd want to have the BOX set.

Precisely. They certainly wouldn't wait almost eight years just so they could say, "I bought all my Beatles songs on iTunes." That would be just silly.

I did some folks here predict this one correctly. Of course, I also like the Beatles myself and yet don't have their albums personally. I don't know if it is that big of an announcement to most, but it certainly is a great one for my Beatles RockBand-owning self. I wonder if they'll come with all sort of nice iTunes extras (covers, videos, interviews) like a lot of stuff I'm seeing lately. I'm all over this.

The reason I'll never forget this day is that it was the moment I realized that some of you are so clouded in your thinking that you perceive a simple graphic on a company Web site as "hype" that had reached "ridiculous levels."

In defense of the other poster (who had it dead-right), you need to consider that the "graphic" had words to it.... I think they went something to the effect of "Tomorrow is a just another day. That you will never forget." Apple should have just made the press release today about The Beatles on iTunes with no hype and started running their Beatles commercials (no pre-announcement needed).

Apple knows that they have people on the edge of their seat because they play things close to the vest. When they pre-announce an announcement it means they are going to unveil something you have not seen. When they make an unprecedented pre-announcement that tomorrow will be a day that we will "never forget", they had better bring their A-game.

This announcement was about as memorable as the time Apple upgraded the Airport Extreme from "Dual Band" to "Simultaneous Dual Band" -- and at least that was useful to more people.

Apple is reading too much of their own press. The next thing I'd expect is Steve to pre-announce a press conference where Apple will unveil something to change the world and then on the day of the press conference have Steve Jobs walk up the microphone, turn around, bend over, let out a big fart into the mic and walk off stage.

You don't call everybody out to let off a dud.

This news is important to only one person: Steve Jobs.

Word.
SJ has been on the Beatles dillz for sooo long! I know it's a big day for him.
The rest of us....
Not so much. :(

But but my new Macbook Air is so cool that I can't be mad at him. :)

Other than instant gratification why would you buy Beatles at the iTunes Store? One can buy better quality music at Best Buy for less money, and have a hard copy.

In that case, the iTunes Store shouldn't exist. Why buy ANY music if it's lower quality? Why don't people just always buy their music at big boxes? Why is iTunes a music-selling juggernaut? For a lot of people, a 128 kbps MP3 file sounds good enough. Anything better is just a bonus.

Steve will never forget this day.

LOL, remember Steve has a huge ego and he just want to call the attention.

The Beatles are so boring for me, is like U2 and Queen... way over exposed to he point you do not feel anything but wanting to listen to Tiesto or Van Buuren instead.

Plus it's gimped music. Time for Apple to offer apple lossless format as a download option.

Doesnt make sense because 99% of every other artist on iTunes is also available elsewhere.

most over-hyped yet lamest announcement ever.. thank you for a big disappointment.. you've successfully balanced out the hype/awesomeness of the iphone/ip[ao]ds/macs/etc with the "unhype" of releasing beatles, big woop

Don't make the mistake of thinking that everyone thinks and acts exactly the same way that you do.

so you're telling me if you are a big beatles fan and the box set came out in store....you say hey! i really want to buy it from itunes so i'm gonna hold out for that one.

how dumb haha

this is definitely non-news. if it were big news, you'd get more positives then negatives on here.

This is the core mistake everyone is making. The fact that Apple used the phrase 'you'll never forget' in a single graphic on their Web site is not over hype. Companies make statements like that all the time. The reaction to Apple's use of that phrase says volumes more about the people who were duped into thinking it was the dawning of a new age than it says about Apples (by any reasonable accounting) minor hype for this event.

Just pointing out that my prediction from yesterday that The Beatles would dominate iTunes sales charts is coming true even faster than I thought.

But surely that can't be true. Apparently nobody cares about the Beatles.

As an aside, I mentioned to someone yesterday that there was an Apple announcement today. I just spoke to him again and he asked what it was.

When I told him, did he say "WHAT! HOW DARE APPLE TAUNT US WITH SUCH HYPE!"?

Nope, he said that was good because he only had one Beatles album and liked the idea of being able to pick and choose some tracks.
put that teaser up yesterday, he probably wouldn't have known they were available for a while.

That's good marketing folks.

Id say 99% of the negatives are because of a very lack luster event, people were excepting more not because it's The Beatles. The more music the merrier in iTunes store.
