All of the whiners in this thread are displaying the same kind of hysteria that the Beatles' fans displayed when they came to America, only in the negative. Almost 50 years later, and some things about young people never change!
BACK TO THE FUTURE!
Now we wait Metallica dear old Steve. I wasn't born...in Beatles Era.
....and why is that?
To all of those saying there wasn't a lot of hype generated by Apple:
A multi-million dollar company dedicating the entire front page of their web site to advertise a "day you'll never forget" is a LOT of hype. Think of how many millions of hits that page gets every day. It's easy to say, "it's just a silly graphic on their front page," but it just doesn't work that way.
Also, while lossless would be nice, not only do I not have the hard disk space for it, I also lack the audio equipment needed to appreciate it. 256kbps - 320kbps is fine for me.
Not what I'm saying, but I see you just did the exact same thing again: assuming that your habits and ways of looking at things are universal. Wrong.

Awesome for Beatles fans, lame for the other 95% of us.
tell me how this is news? it's not like apple was the 1st to get the beatles music and it is NOW just being released to the public. it's been out on cd for awhile.
Apple should have just put a banner on their webpage saying, that the beatles are now on itunes.
Because most people (like myself) thought it would be something very exciting(because of the words "You'll never forget"...
Lots of reasons. Some want instant gratification. Some don't live near a Best Buy. Some don't want a bunch of unused packaging lying around. Some don't want to deal with ripping CDs or don't know how. Some don't have or don't use a CD player and just want digital files directly loaded to their iPods.
The list goes on and on. Every consumer has different circumstances and habits. It's a huge mistake to think that because you behave in a certain way, everyone behaves in the same way. As someone who's worked in advertising for nearly two decades I see this in action every day of the week.
Id say 99% of the negatives are because of a very lack luster event, people were excepting more not because it's The Beatles. The more music the merrier in iTunes store.
Because now able to buy individual songs. Some people don't want the full album. It's not huge news but it's definitely a thumbs up.
BlackMangoTree said:The box set is $20 more than it is on Amazon.com for the CDs. So.....
Try the Australian Store at $260
i believe the year is 2010. if someone is such a huge fan of something they will buy it when it's available immediately on cd. again, it's 2010, most people shop online where you can buy it from amazon.com
there is a reason why it's received such negative comments. again, it's non-news.
Except that this isn't just ANY tech company, it's Apple. They are notoriously secretive and anytime they DO update the website, no matter how small, it usually gets reported on tech blogs around the globe.
To imply "a day you'll never forget" for this announcement is just ridiculous.
I am cool with Apple blowing The whole Beatle launch out of proportion.
Also, while lossless would be nice, not only do I not have the hard disk space for it, I also lack the audio equipment needed to appreciate it. 256kbps - 320kbps is fine for me.
