so you're telling me if you are a big beatles fan and the box set came out in store....you say hey! i really want to buy it from itunes so i'm gonna hold out for that one.

how dumb haha

this is definitely non-news. if it were big news, you'd get more positives then negatives on here.

Not what I'm saying, but I see you just did the exact same thing again: assuming that your habits and ways of looking at things are universal. Wrong.

omg

I swear, I've never understood why people liked the Beatles so much. They weren't especially good instrumentalists, they weren't good volcalists, they didn't harmonize well, and their tunes weren't especially catchy, and their lyrics weren't especially interesting or deep. Why the hell were they so popular?

Of course, my favorite band is They Might Be Giants, so there's no accounting for taste. :) At least their songs are catchy, they have good instrumentals (even if some of them are electronic), they harmonize well, and their lyrics have meaning below the surface.

Apple should have just put a banner on their webpage saying, that the beatles are now on itunes.
Because most people (like myself) thought it would be something very exciting(because of the words "You'll never forget"...

Yawn

Not a big deal for me, but it's always good to see the iTMS store expand, and this was a major missing piece for a while. I hope more independent and foreign artists start making their way onto the iTMS in a worldwide fashion. It would be nice to be able to buy music from Japan and Europe on the iTMS with no weird country restrictions.

Also, while lossless would be nice, not only do I not have the hard disk space for it, I also lack the audio equipment needed to appreciate it. 256kbps - 320kbps is fine for me.

I don't think its the fact that the Beatles are finally on iTunes that aggravates people (me for example) it's the fact that Apple is on the verge of a major release of iOS, not to mention all the other "things" they have been working on (mostly rumored of course) and they hype the release of a few albums like they did it is really kind of a buzz kill for lack of better term.

What hype? The hype that your and others created? This ad was posted ONE DAY before the announcement. What hype? The typical delusional Apple fanbase hype? Please. There's no other hype than what you created for yourself. There was no one month or hell not even a one week lead up to let the irrational Apple fanboys run and make up rumors but they sure as hell tried in the under 24 hours the ad was up.

Jobs totally lost it, we already see the signs of his dementia, who cares about beatles, those beatles fans already own their music in every format imaginable. He really should step back, otherwise we are going to see more of this idiotic announcements.

everyone complaining about this should shut the hell up and go outside.

get a life. if you seriously care this much about a corporation, you have serious issues.

To all of those saying there wasn't a lot of hype generated by Apple:

A multi-million dollar company dedicating the entire front page of their web site to advertise a "day you'll never forget" is a LOT of hype. Think of how many millions of hits that page gets every day. It's easy to say, "it's just a silly graphic on their front page," but it just doesn't work that way.

just had a quick look through this thread, not read everything that everyone has put.....

I'm getting the same sort of vibe as the original iPod thread and we all know how that turned out.

I think some are missing the point. There are watershed moments for media formats both visual and audio. For much of the public VHS, DVD were only considered to have 'arrived' when certain titles became available. For me and many others it was when the Star Wars films came on the format. Blu-ray is waiting the same for the Star Wars films and thats the point its going to be considered as a must have.

Same here for digital download. We've had in the UK for first Top Ten including digital download sales, the first Christmas No 1 that was purely download last year. Now The Beatles have arrived on the format. CD was walking wounded yesterday. Today it died.

That is ridiculous...all that for what? Beatles MP3 on iTunes...
Steve Jobs should refrains from annoucing "unforgetable days" that are really not extraodinary to me...at least forme...but i guess for many of you too.

For one word? Please start making sense, it will assist you in life. Even when posting to internet forums.

Assist me in life? lol

You said to use in a sentence correctly... usually a sentence is in a paragraph...hence paragraphs get formatted.

Anyhow, I am done going back and forth with you. Please move this to PM's and then educate me wise one. I am sure your credentials would warrant it based on your mighty MacRumor Forum stature and the complete and concise sentences you use on blogs and chat rooms, get real.

At the extremely high price they are in the Australian iTunes Store, it will lead people to buy else where and stealing it.

Very Very Very poor pricing.

Very close to 1000 negatives... The Beatles on iTunes is good news, but I understand all the negativity. Overblown hype leads to false expectations. Period.

.... Apple

BACK TO THE FUTURE!

Now we wait Metallica dear old Steve. I wasn't born...in Beatles Era.

agreed that the hype is not much of a hype ... but for people to say beatles is lame is just plain wrong.

Plus it's gimped music. Time for Apple to offer apple lossless format as a download option.

Or do what HDtracks.com does, and offer downloads in full, uncompressed format (AIFF, in its case). Don't know if the record companies will allow this to become too widespread because then who needs CDs?
