I guess you're one of the ancient hippies that actually doesn't already own every Beatles album and plans on buying this garbage! However, it's not as much of a put-down for The Beatles as it is for Apple thinking this actually should be considered monunmental or important! There are way too many features/servies they need to announce that would trumph this by a long shot! If you're a Beatles fan, you're either dead or getting close to it! I guess that's their target audience!

I was just responding to those who were saying the beatles are overhyped, they don't own any of their music anyway, etc etc.
I understand the dissapointment over the announcement if they were expecting something technical.

I get the feeling that all the people who are sticking up for Apple here are old and going to die soon (and therefore excited about music available for ever to be available through a different medium), and all the people who are upset are young people.

This thread will be hitting 1000 posts soon - within the space of a couple of hours. It's certainly got everyone talking - so I guess, based on that, Apple were right in saying this will be a day we'll never forget

Ah crap I had already forgotten all about it until I read your message!

So far a net of 900 people who will not buy Beatles songs and many many clearly who don't understand their significance and brilliance.

Once classic song after another . Between longevity and genius there aren't too many bands around with the same track record.

Watch the sales numbers , even after the initial hype dies down.

Beatles forever!

PS: Hey Apple, a little bit over the top? Already forgot what day it is.
Oh, Tuesday, must be Beatles.
Wednesday, must be Belgium :)

Maybe these guys actually think they're going to be listening to Eminem when they are 60 years old.
I actually know someone who said he doesn't like to listen to sings that have guitars playing! Sad

I gotta agree with MattG. (oh and Matt, they are a multi-billion dollar company.)

Apple is a company that loves it's surprise unveiling of "Big Deal" products. Putting Hines on the front page of apple.com a nice remembrance, quietly stating "Tomorrow is a day you'll never forget." is a HOLY ***** WHAT IS THE NEW REVOLUTIONARY THING APPLE IS GOING TO RELEASE!!!

The maner in which they were so reserved and secretive and apples history of announcements is what gave all the hype. And yeah, the fanboys didn't help either.

All in all a big whatever... the only people that this is really a big deal to are the music industry giants. And maybe the random beatles nerds who can't wait to get their hands on some DRMed copies.

No, putting this up a week or so before they announced the original iPhone was a precursor to Holy Revolutionary, in a way you couldn't even really guess. Yesterday was just a tease that was effective without too much buildup or fanfare. All the fanfare and expectations were created here, not really elsewhere. We even knew yesterday that this was most likely it. But still the disappointment and dashed hopes. Whatever.

Ouch! Dead or close to it? I'm amazed people are killing off Generation X folks just because they turn 30. :) I don't care what you think of it, but the Beatles were a phenomenon. Yes, there are a lot of great artists out there, but there's only but so many true world Phenoms out there. Whether you love, hate, or are indifferent to the Beatles, the fact still remains.

I don't jump all over people for being all into Elvis Prestley. Though I'm indifferent to him, I still recognize when he's had such a huge following.

But considering the announcements that Apple makes about *music* and availability. They the main computer company that actually has entire conference appearances about music. With so many requests for iTunes to have the Beatles, over the years, I don't really think this was so out of left field.

...... they turn 30? I'm almost 50 and they are old to me ......

I imagine 99% of the people posting havent a clue about the "sosume" mac start up sound and how it relates to the beatles

I was one of those who never made the connection. Now I do, and it makes perfect sense. Thank you for the enlightenment.

The only people this is unforgettable for are Apple execs and shareholders. Just because Apple has been fighting an ongoing legal battle to get the Beatles on iTunes doesn't mean anyone outside of Apple actually cares, except for diehard Beatles and iTunes store fans of course (and I'm sure there are even a lot of Beatles fans that could care less).

You said far more than that, and given the fact that you're now trying to revise and back away from your previous statements, this conversation is effectively at an end.

revise and back away? dude i think you have some problems.

i am not SMEARING apple when i say this is non-news. u must be a huge beatles fan and it hurts your feelings :D

GO **** YOURSELF!!!! Where is the cloud service, streaming music, or anything else important other than the freakin' Beatles! I don't know anyone that listens to the Beatles anymore, and if they do, they already own their CD's. Major fail!

The real major fail on their part is that for the $149, you can buy the "Beatles USB-Key" from various places like amazon, which is the same 2009 Remasters boxset - with the same mini-documentaries. Except you get it in lossless (Flac), along with high resolution lossless (24bit Flac files, but still 44.1khz), and 320kbps mp3. All in the one package. Why someone would pay the same amount for just the iTunes lossy set is beyond me.

The major fail on your part is not recognising how large an announcement this is in Apple history (both the history Apple records and Apple itself). Heres a video interview posted on macrumours earlier this year - pretty entertaining, and contains just a snippet of the larger picture.. http://www.tuaw.com/2010/02/26/interview-with-the-creator-of-the-apple-startup-sound/

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 4_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/532.9 (KHTML, like Gecko) Mobile/8B117)

Yayyy, that was so exciting... *sarcasm*

Really?!

Let's look back 50 years ago, people (probably the age you are now) were saying the exact thing about The Beatles and rock and roll. Tastes differ between generations. Eminem and Kanye West are actually pretty good at writing songs, but hey, I suppose those kids better get off your damn lawn, huh?

I've heard that argument before and it holds no water. The Beatles transcend generations and always have. Sinatra himself said Something was the greatest love song ever written.
You think you're going to be listening to Eminem and other Rap garbage when you're 60 years old?

Anyone who buys it from the iTunes Store is an idiot. Why pay more?.

ROFLMAO wow! 1241 negative votes? This has to be a first haha. Yeah Apple really screwed themselves this time for making this such a big deal when this crap could have been big like 7 years ago I guess (Don't remember how long it has been since Apple tried to get the The Beatles on iTunes).

More power for digital distribution

The excitement is not so much the Beatles availability in the iTunes store, but that it represents another victory for Apple regarding digital distribution rights. The fact that the Beatles copyright holder's finally caved in gives Apple more credit when approaching other content providers for distribution rights. This can ultimately help lead to Apple acquiring rights to stream music from a "cloud" as they maintain their position as the leader in online music downloads.

Its a generation thing. I am pushing 30 and I still listen to the 80's metal I grew on. Now my tastes have matured I listen to a lot of Pink Floyd and Led Zepplin now. I have tried to get into the Beatles but I can't do it. I like a few songs a lot but the ones I don't like I really don't like. The music hasn't aged as well as something like Black Dog or Money. Those songs still kick ass even today.
