the positives and negatives speak for themselves. marketing genius ehh? lol

call it a marketing survey if you will.

Maybe you should look into polling methodology before you start trying to build a case based on the votes cast on this story at this site. Hint: you're not on firm ground.

Hilarious thread.

Clearly a lot of people around here take themselves far too seriously. The fact is, the lack of the Beatles was a huge, gaping hole in the iTunes library. That hole has been filled (after many years and lawsuits). I think that's very newsworthy.

I'm looking forward to expanding my paltry Beatles library significantly. I've been holding off buying cd's, hoping to get them on iTunes instead.

Today is a good day. Probably not as memorable as Apple's promo indicated, but that's marketing for you.

Same here exactly. To hell with everyone else :p

Possible that Apple has manipulated the data to put the Beatles in the Top 20? It is their store afterall and Apple is notorious for creating hype.

They haven't. The Top 20 probably covers a certain period (say few hours/days), otherwise, after a few years, it would be a pretty static list.

Right now, you should take the Top 20 with a grain of salt because of the hype this announcement generated.

Wow. words escape me. So you admit that you steal, akin to shoplifting essentially. You have no moral fiber. And you have just announced online that you are about as trustworthy as what gets stuck to the bottom of my shoe.

Someone hand this guy a nobel prize.

Great reply! :D

This isnt a 30 year late release like people are saying. Its a little over a year late, since they are using the 2009 Stereo/Mono Remasters (released on 09/09/2009 ). Now that is a day that will go down in Beatles history to all their fans.

But what people are missing - especially all the clueless teenagers and young adolescents - is that there is tremendous history between Apple Computers and the Apple music label. A sad history of legal battles, draconian agreements, and just utter weirdness. I imagine 99% of the people posting havent a clue about the "sosume" mac start up sound and how it relates to the beatles.

With everything Steve wouldve gone through in relation to the Beatles over the last umpteen years, this is actually a huge announcement when put into context.

But of course you teenagers can get back to crying about how Apple owe you something personally, and you have better taste than listening to the Beatles

build a case? you gotz to be kidding haha.

200 positives, 1,100 negatives. hmmmm

Wouldn't those who truly care about the arrival of The Beatles to iTunes already own the music?

It seems like self-declared importance on the part of Apple.

Instead of being mindless like many others are here I actually see this whole thing as a positive. Honestly anyone that has their own business will see this as inspirational. Anyone who's followed Apple over the years knows their ordeal with the Beatles. McCartney and company have flat out refused to allow Beatles albums on iTunes regardless of how big iTunes had become. For Steve Jobs to finally pull this off just shows me that he will stop at nothing, not allow negatives to stop him and will climb any wall no matter how high to accomplish his goals. For him to finally pull this off says what an amazing business man he is. I have my own business and I can only dream at this point to accomplish what he has accomplished. One man did it all. Can any of you naysayers here say you've accomplished what he has? NO, otherwise you wouldn't be spewing nonsense about how your life was wasted over some "lame" announcement.

I'm not trying to hate or anything, but if I had control over a company such as Apple I would do some things like this as well.

I always told myself the first thing I would do if I because ULTRA wealthy would be to buy a giraffe.

this is a day you'll never forget.....that hype's it up pretty good on it's own.

again, you are the marketing genius so you should know that already.

What I notice is that you're incredibly worked up over seven static words that appeared on a corporate Web site for less than 24 hours. No press release, no TV ads, no Web ads, no press event... Nothing but a single two line graphic on Apple's own Web site. From my POV Apple under hyped this and people like you vastly over reacted both before and after the announcement.

How inane is this announcement by Apple?!?
It's rather like the 1998' announcement of the new new psychedelic colored iMacs. Anyone remember how lame that one was?

Really... this is some California Kool-Aid overindulgence. Indeed, it will bring revenue to Apple, but it's lame and absurd to make a chest thumping 'look at us' look at us' announcment about any of this.

Had there been software upgrades with it- it might've made some sense but this is ridiculous... heck, even with ios upgrades it should have merely been noted, not announced.

You remember that far back but you don't seem to remember the history between Apple Corp and Apple Inc...

It's a really big thing - for Apple. I feel like if the ego that split up The Beatles (Yoko Ono) didn't have such a big influence, then we'd have seen either a more muted introduction or we would've seen some more iTunes announcements.

For Apple fans, for Techies, for Music lovers, we are all feeling a little let down.

Seriously who cares? I ripped the CDs into iTunes YEARS ago.

The only reason I think it's mildly interesting is because it means the battle 30 year battle between Apple and Apple is over.

Wow, surprised how many punks here are putting down the greatest band in the history of Rock.
Go back to listening to your quality music of Eminem, Kanye West and various other Bass Thumping worthless cRap Music.
Sad how many people have grown up with no musical taste whatsoever.

Three Words for you, Apple

GO **** YOURSELF!!!! Where is the cloud service, streaming music, or anything else important other than the freakin' Beatles! I don't know anyone that listens to the Beatles anymore, and if they do, they already own their CD's. Major fail!

Some people on here are so out of touch with reality... what other Apple announcement could have been so big that it hits the front page of just about every major news website?

Not news? Not to you/us, maybe. But we're hardly a representative sample of the population when it comes to Apple announcements are we?

with some luck, this will be the post at MR with the negative rating record :D
it's sad that it has already so many comments (mine included), the Beattles are not worthy of such a publicity...

Does no one check the posts on Mac Rumors before hitting 'publish'? Everyone here in this forum is dumber for having read that opening line.

If this is it, then it's a day to forget, if not a day to remember such a pointless build up leading to disappointment.

Typical Apple Hype, all generated for the same two reasons as usual. Steve's incessant need to have his ego stroked, and another money grab.

I'm not the least bit surprised, nor disappointed. I had no positive expectations to begin with. It's the same old smoke & mirrors trickery.

i can't prove otherwise but i find that hard to believe.
if they were going to manipulate it then they'd bump them up into the iTunes top 10, giving it profile the side bar (and on the iphone store) getting far greater exposure.

There is no right or wrong in music everyone has their own tastes. Don't talk like you tastes are best, makes you look like a fool.

I guess you're one of the ancient hippies that actually doesn't already own every Beatles album and plans on buying this garbage! However, it's not as much of a put-down for The Beatles as it is for Apple thinking this actually should be considered monunmental or important! There are way too many features/servies they need to announce that would trumph this by a long shot! If you're a Beatles fan, you're either dead or getting close to it! I guess that's their target audience!
