This is hilarious. People are actually mad a band is now available to listen on streaming? Nobody is making you listen to them.

The rest of us normal people who recognize them as one of the greatest and most influental bands of all time can go back to being happy about this.

And yes for most of us music fans this is a more than news worthy on macrumors.

great now can Apple get rid of that Taylor Swift spam on iTunes please. it was "funny" for a day but im tired of seeing her face everytime i open the store. surprised theres not a pop up on top of it tbh

Overall adding the Beatles to streaming services is huge. Even so long after their breakup they are still huge players in music. Hopefully this means that more artists can be trusting of streaming and hopefully better deals will be struck with them.

hi

the article say this: "Additionally, The Beatles' catalog will also be available on music services' free tiers, unlike artists like Taylor Swift."

what does this exactly mean? does apple Music have any free tiers? or does this apply to other music services only?

thanks

Oh it's just these young Millenials bashing some band their grandparents listened to. Stream them some Lady Gaga and they'll be happy again.

Not all of us millennials are bashing though. While I LOVE Lady Gaga (she'll be remembered as one of our generations biggest acts along with Adele and a handful of others) I also appreciate the movement The Beatles started. They were the start of the British Invasion (one that's recently picked back up with Adele)

Their Music is timeless as well, to a certain extent. Listen to what's on the radio now and I'd take the Beatles over a lot of the crap that's being played any day.

I'm excited about this news even though I already own a couple of their records on iTunes already. Can't wait to stream!

I have always wondered.

Why should anyone give them 1 cent now to listen to this stuff?

Crazy world where someone can work 40. 50 years ago and still get paid 50+ years later for that bit of work.

How about we pay a tool maker for every time we use their tool over the next 100 years?
Oh dam, another nail I've had to bang in with this Hammer the Beatles made in their factory 50 years ago, better pay them 1 cent again.

If you choose to rent your music through a streaming service then that's what you're agreeing to.

Some of us just buy the music we like once and never pay again.

Just like some people buy a tool set that lasts a lifetime and others will go to the tool hire place every time they need to knock in a nail.

I'm sure it's referring to those (other) services that have a free tier. Apple Music doesn't have a free tier (other than the 90-day trial period).

To the gentleman who believes it's appropriate to censor the Apple Music catalog based on a musician's moral character, or to limit the service's offerings to only music he likes... Are you serious???? In terms of moral character... even a church music-only service would have serious problems finding content. Of course, Apple should definitely fire the staff of Apple Music Pop - there's no redeeming social value there at all. /sarcasm

But what does this mean for me, Al Franken (well, I'm not the Junior U.S. Senator from Minnesota, but people old enough to like the Beatles probably know what I mean...)? Not two days ago, I was musing over the absence of the Beatles from Apple Music. What a lovely gift! But then, as a former radio broadcaster, I can't help but think about all those curated playlists that are going to have to be revised! I wonder if the folks at Apple Music Pop and Apple Music Classic Rock will be free to go home for the holiday?

You misunderstand. The music should be there, a lot of people like it, and it's as catchy as any other fluffy pop. But equally, it shouldn't be lauded and celebrated as something great and idealogically perfect, any more than Chris Brown should be.

(And obviously Chuch-music only wouldn't work, so many great pieces have their origins in Catholicism…)

News flash - no one cares if a frequency that no one could hear anyway is dropped every now and then. Listen to the music and be happy. The majority of people aren't audiophiles.

Don't worry, majority of people who claim to be audiophiles will not know the difference. If you can afford reference grade headphones, and the right dac/amp, yeah bad recording come out....]

For most with apple buds.....HD music or a bad rip sounds about the same ;)

As much as I want to respect the Beatles, I find them responsible for the pain and suffering that is One Direction....! In some ways the Beatles have brought the downfall of music :p

Couldn't agree more! Not that One Direction or their ilk are bad; just not my cup of tea…

But you see The Beatles are different, because they did it a long time ago, and it's therefore better.

This is great. But the fact it's coming to most streaming services on day 1 just shows how there's nothing special about Apple Music. I wonder if Apple even tried to negotiate an exclusive, even if it was just for a few months.

Anyway can Def Leppard please get with the program now?!? There's not a lot of big name holdouts anymore but they're one of them. None of their classic albums from the early 80s are available. I don't even think they're available to purchase as mp3s. I ripped their albums off YouTube (not sure how they've survived there) and imported them into iTunes. Joke.

Money in the pocket. The rights holders know that they can no longer earn much money from radio royalties and/or endless "greatest hits" compilations. So now they're "finally" heading for on-demand services to squeeze the last money out from their songs.

What a good xmas present.....

My parents will be soo happy.. Just as long as we are all aware that the moment The Beatles hit these streaming services u just know people like me will use recording software.

ok.... we're cool with that,,,, moving on :D

I hate artists who just assume a streaming service is "as is" with absolutely not even a second thought "oh ya,,, we know people will record our music" that seriously doesn't go through any artists mind when streaming on a public network ?

I would be to me. Just putting it out there..... Take it, or leave it, but u know its gonna happen.

ok ...back to happy hour with MR.

I disagree about Lady Gaga. I don't think her music will survive the test of time. Neither do I think Adele's will.

Huge fame and popularity does not necessarily mean an enduring legacy. For instance, Rossini wrote dozens of operas that were immensely popular, had thousands of performances, and are all but lost to the repertoire today. Just a handful endure.

It can be hard to tell which contemporary music will endure, but, as a musician, I feel that there is little from this millennium that will so far. The 80s, on the other hand—one of my favourite periods, has endured very well, and is possibly the most popular decade of popular music. Whilst I'm sure that a lot of this is simply down to timing, as the quality and accessibility of recorded music improved significantly in this time, I think it will last better than any other decade of popular music. There was a happy confluence of things that led to the magic of the 80s, but I think strength of harmony, warmth and fun were some of the most important ingredients.

The title is misleading. It's not exclusive to Apple Music, but "widely, widely available" on almost all music services starting Dec 24. Nothing special to see here...

I've complained the same way when there are articles attacking Apple for their Chinese labor force, implying that Apple is the only one. People had no problem with the articles attacking Apple only, so I guess this article is fair game as it only praises Apple.

Seems like just yesterday when their addition to music download catalogs was a huge deal. Amazing how a band who's last hit is 45 years and months old still makes news when their catalog jumps on to a new media format. There are plenty of bands from their era that are still ever popular and historic but none have been able to gin up the PR engines like the Beatles. Not the Stones, the Who, Dylan, Zeppelin.
